    Hi hon you don't have to brush the liquor on or stab it with a fork . Just wet it as you take the cake from the oven try it

    Hi Natasha, I tried your recipe today and my cakes came out great. I was able to make six pans plus one additional small pan for me. I am so amazed how moist and light the cakes are. I had my fruits soaking for a month and used the full bottle of fruits for a rich cake. I will have it soaking in the liquor mix for a few days before I wrap it up and give them out. This is the best recipe thus far. Thx! I am going to get some more fruits and have them soak for a year because as you know making this cake is not cheap. Lol! Blessings always!!!

    Just now made these cakes, they're in the oven as I'm typing this. I got one 8 inch, one 8.5 and two loaf pan size. I use your recipe every year...and I get some great reviews...great job Natasha.....thanks so very much, oh I also got a little baby one..lol

      MissBttrsctch yeah don't use a lot. It's strong. But the flavor is way better than just plain browning.

    I (American) married a Trini and going to make black cake for the first time. I have my fruits in rum and brandy just now. It will ferment for a month so it should be just fine:) Can't wait for my" Trini-mother-inlaw" to taste! I will follow your guidelines and will let you know how it turns out. A sweet Texas girl likes to cook.

    Natasha.... after it is baked, and you add the extra rum... do you just leave it in the pan, covered and open each day to add more rum mixture.

    Nice recipe. One thing though, blue band is margarine and not butter. There is a huge difference in the end product of whatever you are cooking or baking

      t washington , 2egg whites, 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar, 3- 3 1/2 cups icing or confectioners sugar, 1/2 teaspoon lime juice, almond essence or anise if u prefer. I used lime juice in a spritz bottle which helps it dry as well. Keep covered with a damp cloth as you work.hope this helps. I have another which I use on other cakes as well.

      Nahla Parker use a fruit juice or creme de cassis only that's not a potent alcoholic drinks it has a great flavour.
