I think you need to do this one again and put the original yarn in the melted dye! Having that soft lavender color with the more brilliant colors would be stunning!
That yarn is beautiful. It would be fun to add one layer of ice, then dye powder, then add more ice on top of the first layer of ice and add a second color and see how the yarn takes it up.
I love watching your videos. If I speead my yarn the way you do I end up with a huge knot that I then have to figure out. This was a very cool technique.
I don't know why I don't end up with mroe tangled messes. Whenever I pick up yarn, I try to pick it up by the ties and then get a hand around to keep it separated. Using the nylon zip ties helps me a lot with this. But I definitely don't set a good example RE the # of ties.

I hoped you would dip some of the white area in the run-off instead of mopping up with a new skein. If you dipped and then dropped the first skein in, I think it would would have blended beautifully.
Get a 2 part kitty litter tray that has one for sifting and one solid, then you don't have to work to mound up your ice, just put the yarn in the bottom of the sifting pan and put the ice over it... the edges will keep it in place... put something underneath to elevate it out of the future melt...

@@ChemKnitsTutorials, what if you put a citric acid/dye/water blend into a zip-lock bag and froze it. That way, the commercial dye wouldn't be exposed to the food in the freezer. Then you would lay the bag atop the yarn, and then poke random holes in it with a needle.
@@helenel4126 I think I might just try to do this outside when the weather is cooler to make the ice. I wouldn't want to put acid dyes in my freezer even inside of a bag- but that is my personal comfort level.
This is a good question. I do this just to make sure the colors are set well. Some pigments really do require heat to strike to the yarn, others may strike cold but if it isn't super hot outside I just do this as a step because I'm set up to do it.
owie my ears, the mike next to the ice bucket seemed really loud, but I am extra sound sensitive so maybe just me with earbuds??? colors and effects are great ... did you ever try or consider putting a dry yarnmop under to catch the drips randomly, and maybe halfway thru turn over ... or not turn over???
I cringed when editing that part. Next time I think I'll do a voice over instead. Interesting thought on the double layer of yarn... I'm going to add this to my list!

But then you would probably have to soak it in ash bath and then cook it to set. So much fun and freewheelin' creativity you bring to us!
Hello - if you turn on closed captions (CC) and then go to settings there is an option for "Auto translate" in many languages that Google has set up. The english auto captions aren't perfect so there might be additional errors in the auto translate, but options are there.

The color imbalance is frustrating in most projects but can make really fun socks. That’s what I use ice dye yarn for. 😊
I like yarns like this for some kind of scarf or garter stitch shawlette where the asymmetry wouldn't bug me too much. :D

You could possibly turn the drainer right side up and put something as spacers underneath. Yarn and ice would be inside of drainer. Just a thought.😊

This might be a silly question.. but why does it have to be steamed? Does the dye not take without steam?

I used some jacquard acid dyes outside layered on the ice. The exact colors I used should be in the video description.
