  • Hello everyone!
    Today, we're going to prepare the top of the asteroid for future space endeavours and we also hook up the contraption we've built in the previous episode to start cooling down our regolith and making use of the hot steam vent we still have dormant. Hope you enjoy!:)
    Oxygen Not Included is a space-colony simulation game. Deep inside an alien space rock your industrious crew will need to master science, overcome strange new lifeforms, and harness incredible space tech to survive, and possibly, thrive.

    In the space-colony simulation game Oxygen Not Included you’ll find that scarcities of oxygen, warmth and sustenance are constant threats to your colony's survival. Guide colonists through the perils of subterranean asteroid living and watch as their population grows until they're not simply surviving, but thriving...
    Just make sure you don't forget to breathe.
    Build Extensive Bases and Discover What it Takes to Survive:
    Everything in your space colony is under your control, from excavation and resource allocation right down to plumbing and power systems. Resources will begin depleting with your first breath, however, so be sure to dig fast if you want to live.
    It’s Mind Over Matter with Stress Simulations:
    Keep the psychological impact of survival at bay with fun leisure activities, great accommodations and even better food for your colony. Duplicants each have different and potentially destructive ways of reacting to stress, so be sure to always keep them happy. Whatever the cost.
    Avoid Boiling with Thermodynamics:
    Temperature control is a constant concern in space; too cold and you'll freeze, too hot and you'll fry. Keep tabs on ambient environmental temperatures and your colony's heat production to maintain a nice, cozy atmosphere for your colonists.
    Enhance Efficiency through Complex Gas and Liquid Simulations:
    Create interlocking pipe systems to swiftly deliver fuel and liquid to critical areas of your base. Plan well and be rewarded as your colony transforms into an imperishable, well-oiled machine.
    Take Charge with Power Grid Simulations:
    Choose from a multitude of power sources including coal, hydrogen, natural gas or just plain old elbow grease. Manage power runoff, circuit overloads and meltdowns to keep your colony running smoothly.
    Always Keep Yourself Breathing:
    Enter the Oxygen Overlay and watch air moving through your base in real time. Monitor carbon dioxide accumulation and oversee oxygen generation processes to mold your colony into a veritable deep-space oasis.
    Waste Nothing through Extreme Recycling:
    Make use of every last resource for a base that truly exemplifies efficiency. Recycle waste into precious fuel, process unbreathable gas into air or harness the natural bodily processes of wild creatures for food. If you’re clever, you might even be able to run a base off colonist farts.
    Explore Diverse, Procedurally Generated New Worlds:
    Summon new worlds with a push of a button. Experience tons of untamed space rocks, then suffocate to death in them!

    You should change cooling loop for steam vent. Using oil is not so efficient. If you will change for water, aquatuner will working less time, with the same efficient for steam turbine.
    Aquatuner change temperature for liquids by 14 degress. Oil have over 2,5 times lover Specific Heat Capacity. If you will use water you save more energy. You have perfekt skills for piping!

    You know, frequently a steam turbine can self-cool by using radiant pipes for the water output and running them horizontally behind the full width of the turbine.

    • @Nathans-Sandbox
      @Nathans-Sandbox  Před 3 lety +1

      That doesn't work anymore, gonna instantly overheat.:(

      @@Nathans-Sandbox It works just fine for me, but I guess it depends on the setup. If you're just cooling down, say, a hydrogen vent, it should be perfectly sufficient. But for a high-temp geothermal setup, it probably wouldn't be enough.

  • @shaqtaku
    @shaqtaku Před 3 lety +1

    Hey nathan, I have the exact same setup as your oil rig (13:58) but for some reason the ceramic insulated tile underneath the oil output is taking pressure damage. Any idea what is happening?

    I think your plastic-tubes in the regolith falling tower will melt. 250° Regolith and Hydrogen Gas will melt the plastic at ~160° i think?

  • @MrEarling
    @MrEarling Před 3 lety

    Nathan where did all the water go from the steam vent for the oil wells? Did you really need to wait 45 cycles for the cool steam vent to provide perfect water?

    • @Nathans-Sandbox
      @Nathans-Sandbox  Před 3 lety

      It fell down, could have used that but I had things I could do while "waiting". The water was already being pumped into my base.

  • @wesmantooth32
    @wesmantooth32 Před 3 lety

    You have a bunch of instances where you are trying to keep a room temperature contained, but part of your wall is a door or heavy wire bridge. Those conduct temperature very well, so you are wasting a bunch of energy cooling stuff you don't want to. Just looking at 20:30 you have 4 heavy watt wire bridges that are going to be interacting with 500 degree steam. That is going to cause you to have a bad time at some point. It is really defeating the purpose of using insulated tiles around them.

    • @grandfremdling3841
      @grandfremdling3841 Před 3 lety

      He has a mod with insulated cable and door. Didn't he used that?

    • @Nathans-Sandbox
      @Nathans-Sandbox  Před 3 lety

      Yes I used the insulated ones;) I always found this stupid that they wouldn't come with an insulated version.

  • @richard2mitchell
    @richard2mitchell Před 3 lety

    7:20 the easiest fix is just to make that one pipe behind the vent made of insulation...but you dont have that yet sadly

    • @Nathans-Sandbox
      @Nathans-Sandbox  Před 3 lety

      It is insulated. Still transferring heat in insulated pipes, it doesn't just stop, just goes slower.

    • @richard2mitchell
      @richard2mitchell Před 3 lety

      @@Nathans-Sandbox no... insulation is a material just like granite.... insulated pipe made of granite.... insulated pipe made of insulation...you need isoresin (from space) and alot of reed fibers to make it..... it is the perfect insulator where temperature will not affect it..... it was implemented for liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen for Rocket fuels

    Where are the thermo regulators dumping their heat into? The boundary with the water tank are insulated tiles I believe. Shouldn't those be metal? Otherwise the regulators will overheat

    • @Nathans-Sandbox

  • @Pyrochemik007
    @Pyrochemik007 Před 3 lety

    Why did you stop using water for cooling? It just needed to streghten the vapour generation and add few steam generators, and you have free power and efficient cooling. Now you spend energy to cool stuff inefficiently. Thermal capacity is not a thing in the game? In nature water is a substance with one of the highest thermal capacities per kilogram.
    Are you going to set up vacuum pipes? We have it in lab, very useful. You just connect your whatever machine needs it and gases go away, no need to have several vaccuum pumps in every room, which are noisy, vibrate and heat up the room. There is just big one somewhere in basement. I bet you can just connect it to outside, but that may be wasteful in gases.

      The petrolium cools things more efficiently than water

    • @Nathans-Sandbox
      @Nathans-Sandbox  Před 3 lety

      Yes petroleum is slightly better and can get colder before solidifying. Vacuum pipes would be cool, but aren't a thing in the game.
