  • In this episode I hike up into the mountains to go trout fishing & camping! Little did I know I would learn how to catch crawdads as well. After a night of crayfish fishing, I hikes up to some more lakes, where I show you how to catch trout in the mountains, and after a successful excursion, we return to camp for a delicious trout catch & cook, and crawfish boil. For more Washington State fishing, trout catch, clean cook, crawfish catch & cook, and much more:

    I am 73 yo this March and I have back trouble, so, walking and hiking is difficult for this old guy. I will not begrudge you for the enjoyment you receive from your efforts. Just thank you for taking me with you to enjoy these beautiful lakes, fish, wildlife, and outdoors. My memories of doing this are still intact and I can feel it all. Even taste the fish remotely. How Wonderful. Peace be with you, my friend. Hike on.

    Hey man, if you are actually in Washington there are no mudpuppy’s. It’s really an incredibly rare Cope’s Giant Salamander and only a few adults have been observed in the wild! You should contact the university biology department with this footage! Super cool.

    About the crayfish: before you cook them they need to be "châtrées" (not too sure what this is called in English) : while holding it with a towel, at the "fan" at the end of the tail, grab the middle scale, give it a quarter turn left and then right, then pull it out. That will get the intestine out at the same time. Then then you can rub the "slime" with the towel (it will be pretty cooperative after being châtrée). Then cook it as you like.

    Cope's Giant Salamander if I remember right and they're quite uncommon especially the size of the one you found! Been in the NW my whole life and have yet to see one in person yet. Next time you're in that region check out Schaefer lake for some monster trout. Its a gnarly hike and can usually only get to it in august/september but 100% worth it

      Good call. Someone mentioned mudpuppy but that's probably a related species since its native habitat is the Eastern half of the country.

    • @NWFishingSecrets
      @NWFishingSecrets  Před 4 lety +7

      Yeah, not 100% sure! It definitely looks like the shape of a Common Mudpuppy, but the coloration is definitely closer to the Cope's Giant Salamander! It was my first time this up and close with one. Maybe his first time around a human as well judging by how laid back he was!! 😂 Will definitely try and make a trip up to Schaefer! Thank you! 🎣
