  • The Old Fort (Arab Fort) in Stone Town, Zanzibar - tour of the Old Fort (Arab Fort) in Zanzibar. Let's visit the beautiful island of Zanzibar and let's travel to Stone town in Zanzibar in order to tour the Old Fort (Arab Fort). The Old Fort (also known as the Arab Fort) is a fortification located in Stone Town, the capital of Zanzibar. The Old Fort (Arab Fort) is the oldest building and a major visitor attraction of Stone Town. The Old Fort (Arab Fort) is located on the main seafront of Stone Town in Zanzibar.
The Old Fort (Arab Fort) was built by Omani Arabs in Stone Town, Zanzibar, after expelling the Portuguese in 1699. The Old fort was used as a garrison and prison in the 19th century, and as a terminal of the Zanzibar railways 1905-28. A new guardhouse was built in 1947 and used as the ladies' club, and an amphitheatre was added in the 1990s. It is now the headquarters of the Zanzibar international film festival.
The Old Fort is one of the prominent visitor attractions in Stone Town, and its courtyard has been adapted to serve as a cultural centre with curio shops selling tourist-oriented merchandise. It also has an open-air amphitheatre where live dance and music shows are held most evenings, a restaurant, and a tourist information desk.

I spent 2 weeks travelling around the Amalfi Coast, I know it well. You must from Naples and visit both Pompeii and Herculaneum..... btw, you must have a car, rent it from the airport in Naples.. Then go park for a couple of days in Sorrento and take the ferry to the island of Capri, a definite must to do.. then drive around and stop everywhere you like and can until you reach Salerno...

Love your work, Vic. Well done indeed, as usual. Being that I happen to find myself a native Californian, but simultaneously am thoroughly stricken with an (possibly unhealthily) extreme obsession with ancient, medieval, and renaissance castles, fortifications, and settlements with defensive walls/structures, as well as the history that made such constructions necessary, it turns out that I am rather poorly equipped to scratch that particular itch, as it were. It would seem that when one lives in one of the youngest incorporated regions in one of the youngest (debatably) politically stable nations on the planet, one finds oneself rather hard-pressed to soothe the internal History beast by physically visiting and experiencing such incredible locations as I detailed above. When your
country is fewer than 300 years old, available supply of interesting fortifications, ruins, and other similar structures, are in disgustingly short supply. We simply dont have that kind of history here. The vast majority of human inhabitation on the American continents is rather ubiquitously typified by a distinct lack of sufficiently durable, lasting structures or their ruins showing up in the archaeological record.
What I’m trying to say here is, I appreciate what you do. It’s so very niche, and specific, and frustratingly difficult to accomplish for myself given the circumstances. So thank you. Between your excellent work, and that of the wonderful up-and-coming channel “The History Hikers,” Dries and Jente ( apologies, totally a shameless plug, I do hope you can forgive me for it. You’d probably love their content honestly, and it’s nice for me at least because they tend to focus on France, Germany, Belgium, and western Central Europe in general, while you cover the wider Eastern Europe, Balkans, and Mediterranean), i feel I am much better off and more pleasantly fulfilled as a result of having ready access to the outstanding tours, intriguing history, and stunning locations that you provide for us in your content. Thanks a million, it means a lot. 🙏

Hello, thank you for watching my videos and for your wonderful comments!! 😊😊😊 Since I was ten years old I have been obsessed with history and of course with castles, forts, etc... In the 170 or so countries that I have visited, as soon as I see a fort, I am right up there... lol... China, Tibet, Greece, Romania, Turkey, you name it....
