Here's probably one of my most important videos ever, after MANY years of search we finally
found it, the dream! KINGDOM HEARTS II Debug Mode! 🖤
As you probably noticed I've been uploading footage of the KH 2.5 HD ReMIX demos from E3 2014, well... turns out that the KH II Final Mix Demo has debug mode, so I basically took the demo executable and used it with the full game data! This discovery is something really important, not only for preservation but because it will be helping the modding community to understand the game better and keep improving our documentation.
We've been years without anything as big as this so I always say it, if you know anyone or you could help us getting more similar material don't hesitate to contact me!

And judging by the menus, this isn't just KH2FM from the PS2 through emulation, this is literally 2.5
And we thought modding was already getting crazy before I can only imagine what you could do with this
Not only does this help the modding community and the preservationists, it also scratches the itch of beta enthusiasts with whatever leftover content the debug can show.

interesting how you can control party members you cant normally use.
i think this is possible because they programmed every object that takes action as a "playable" character and created an AI sends actions as if they were using a controller like the players.
object oriented programming is pretty interesting
reading this makes recreating kh days sound alot more possible

Everything in this video is amazing, but special kudos for the sequences with Pride Lands' Donald flying around, so creative and beautiful
Hearing the credit music for KH2 reminds me we never got that kind storytelling in the KH3 credits. Yea, stuff happened but not on the level of KH2's.
The stuff in kh3 was underwhelming because of many irrelevant cutscenes and the fact that the kh3 journey through the RoL was basically for nothing, whereas only the Keyblade Graveyard really mattered in the end.
In any other KH title (though I'll use KH1, KH2 and BBS here because I can really give examples on them) you'd have the protagonists interact with the disney characters and usually pulled them indirectly into the plot
(i.e. KH1 with the princesses and the invasions of heartless, KH2 with the organization -> ex. Xaldin holding Belle Hostage lol, BBS with ex. Terra being controlled/influenced by Maleficent which later on had the consequence that him and his friends argued over his darkness problem), at the very least have the protagonist take part in the disney world story and it being less one-sided.
The problem about KH3's worlds was the insignificance of many worlds, where I believe Olympus and the Carribean were the only worlds to feature a fight against the actual disney villains of that world. Especially KoC and Arendelle were just so boring, whereas Arendelle could be seen as the worst KH world simply because of how Sora literally doesn't matter in this plot and it's all just for marketing. Not even in a "We have to defend the world order" type of way, the dude literally just listens to some songs and then gets to beat up some weird lion heartless orso.
After a world, you got like 10 minutes of cutscenes on how other characters are progressing. Just. cutscenes. Man, if they atleast had used Kairi and Lea as your tutorial trainees this would've been a gamechanger. They could have put the cutscenes there and I would have been only half as or maybe not at all bored.
Not hating on KH3, if I had hated it so much I wouldn't have gotten the Platinum, but man did it disappoint me. Best part was the Carribean, _maybe_ Toy Box and general Gameplay.
Oh my god that turned out to be long, sorry, basically I summed up why KH3 was so boring with disney worlds compared to past titles
It's so exciting to see something from my childhood be transformed into something greater, the nodding community has come very far...especially since you can have a team of goofy's that's a bit overpowered

Seeing you play as Jack Sparrow, Skellington, Goofy and Mulan makes me wish that in the next or future Kingdom Hearts game, we can play as party members and switch between them as we explore the worlds. Even including FF characters playable as well.

I wish we could play as party members and change costumes in these games like there’s so many cool options like the org hood man square Enix could have had the cosmetic things like in 0.2 for kh3 :(

The possibilities with this are so endless, you have everything the game could call for in one menu, imagine a Reverse/Rebirth for KH2 in rikus eyes using his gameplay model. Amazing

The fact there were rooms for Destiny Islands makes me wonder if Kairi was planned to have a playable segment before leaving the islands.

For the PS2 variation of the game. I used code breaker to heavily recode the game for a second playthrough and to play with stuff that was ommitted from the game.
All those hex digits bring back alot of nostalgia. I used to know what every single one represented
Next on the list is to find a button combination for this debug mode, similarly to what happened with the Jak and Daxter games

so ok iv been kinda out of the loop on kh2fm modding but from what i remember, most of its done on the ps2 version of the game. does this mean we could see a shift in modders developing for kh2.5 instead?

@@RaXZerGamingZ no, but people have made full on Vanitas and Aqua mods. so giving specific animations to specific models shouldn't be tooooo much of an issue, I would think.
i wish someone would make a fully playable Dual Wielding Roxas mod. Like with guarding and magic. All of that fun stuff. hopefully one day.
