Is the "Cancer research" a bash on Karkat or a well placed pun?
It's a bash on how the Homestuck game was funded like 2-3 years ago and still no progress (really, UnderTale was funded after that and it's already released).
Also maybe a bash on how the crowfunding for printed volumes of Homestuck had a mock reward that was pay a lot of money to have your personal trollzona in one page of the comic and someone actually paid for it (the characters were killed in that page because there was a line of mock rewards that asked more and more money to keep the character alive, concluding on the character becoming the protagonist and the person only paid for the first mock reward).
I think it's more that the homestuck-fanbase is often referred to as "cancerous".

+Supertron I watched the gameplay of the Kickstarter showcase for funders, and it turns out that the problem wasn't that the game was 3D, but that it was poorly executed overall.
I've seen towers that were collapsing to literally clip through the floor, instead of actually breaking through anything (something that even Megaman X4 knew better), I've seen tons of cutscene dialogue that were all over the place and impossible to skip (if they got rid of it during levels, it would be a huge improvement already), and the character models looked intensely inexpressive and lifeless, in comparison to the character artwork that appears in the game itself.
I'm not one to judge game demos, but for god's sake, they got 4 fucking million bucks for their game. I really hope they improve things up, because seeing that much money being wasted on a game that looks like a super early alpha for a PS2 game is a huge shame.

If a big company known for lots of popular games (e.g. the new Planescape game that was kickstarted) has a kickstarter going, chances are they're only going to fail if they don't reach the amount they asked for or if their development falls through. Needless to say, video game development is a good example because if you don't already have a financial backing, kickstarter is going to be the next attempt. It's gained some popularity in successful video game kickstarters.

Is Homestuck worth looking into? I read the first chapter and half of the second chapter and I found it to be the least engaging story I have ever read.
FluffyHellHound That seems to be most people's first impression. Personally I enjoyed it from page one, but a lot of fans didn't become fans until act 4 or 5.
Fun fact, Undertale got funded by Kickstarter and Muffet got added into the game when a artist paid 500 dollars. And a Troll character named So Sorry that someone paid 1'000 dollars for XD I bloody hated the Muffet Boss fight XD

I've never really understood how kickstarted worked (or rather why people do it), and considering I would have to pay to find out... I'm cool not knowing.
It's not that hard to figure out. Somebody proposes a concept for a product. They then pitch this to an audience asking for funding. The audience funds the product with an amount of money and receives items based upon how much they paid. The company in charge of the Kickstarter have a legal obligation to then create the product. Failure to do so means that they must refund their audience. That's it in a nutshell.

It is a pretty clever idea to "reward" people for donations by having them design a character or something. I'm actually considering funding to one of those tiers in a project because I'm so psyched about the game.

I don't mean to offend or insult any Homestuck fans out there, but I have a genuine question. What about it attracts you to it? Whatever it is, I'm not sure I see it. To each their own I guess.

It has good animation, appealing artstyle and a diverse set of characters that actually have a personality.
+The Gray Pet I'll be brutally honest. I don't think I've ever said this before, but here we go. I love watching MLP because well... it pretty much reminds me of when I was a kid, when I didn't have a damn care in the world. sometimes I think about that and I just wish I could go back, relive the days when I was happy and oblivious to this world and all the responsibilities that come with adulthood. Sometimes it's sad for me. This show reminds me of that and it also helped me get through a bout of depression in my life. Someone could look at me right now and ridicule me for watching it but how this helped me goes surprisingly much deeper than you would expect.
+WinXPwhiz I dunno. I guess it's just a really well done webcomic. Everything in Homestuck fits so neatly together and when you realize how it fits together your mind's just kinda blown. The dialogue feels comparably natural and the writing style is pretty fun to read. Also, it expands your vocabulary a lot, so, that's a thing.
I'm not exactly a fan, but I do find it pretty good. from what I see, it takes a LONG time to really pick up, but once it does, it's characters get quite a bit more complex and it becomes more and more expansive as it goes on. also, shit ALWAYS seems to go down, leading to a lot of action scenes which I'll admit are pretty kickass.

The reason we don't have our game is because What Pumpkin stole the money from the Homestuck game they were given to, you know, actually produce the game. So Andrew had to settle it, thus the hush hush, to get back even a portion of that money. So not only is the project down money but also time. these parodies are pretty clever and how passive aggressive they are to the websites they make parodies and this Kickstarter video is a perfect example of the perfect blend of blatant attacking and criticism of Kickstarter and slightly attacking it by hiding it over a little bit of cover that you're complimenting the site.
overall I think these parodies of sites like this from the channel so well done sire you have made a beautiful parody of sites.
