Hi! So. I’m not proud of this video. I don’t like that it’s one of the biggest things on my channel, and I hate that there’s a good chance it might be someone’s first impression of me. I don’t think it’s a good idea to take it down, either, because to me that just feels like hiding it. Besides, even if I did someone would just reupload the damned thing. So instead I’m just going to talk about it here in a pinned comment for… I guess you could call it “historical context”? I’d also like to clarify a few things and apologize for others. Back in 2014 I wanted to make a follow-up to “Welcome to CZcams”. I did not use Tumblr at the time, but some friends of mine did and they went over some of the issues in the community with me. I wrote a video based on their suggestions, and this is the result. When “Welcome to Tumblr” came out the video blew up thanks to a heated negative response. It got a lot of hate comments. And y’know what? Fair enough! The wording is bad and a lot of the jokes are. Uh. SUPER bad. There are some bits and pieces I still like about the video, but most of the gags make me wince and say “Wow, I cannot BELIEVE that chose to phrase that joke that way.” The worst thing people can take away from this video is the idea that I hate trans people or that I’m promoting transphobia. That’s absolutely NOT true. Trans rights, all the way. If you’re a trans person you’re valid as fuck and I hope you can get to a place where you’re free to be yourself, if you’re not there already. Because of this video I’ve gotten a lot of questions from fans about my stance on trans people. Close friends of mine have even told me that they were afraid to come out to me because they were under the impression I’d hate them for it. I feel absolutely awful to have I put them in that position, and I’m deeply sorry I did that to them. This is, of course, a result of the “Vagin-abled” joke. Believe it or not, that joke wasn’t originally meant to be a dig at the trans community. I know! That sounds like bullshit! It was actually intended to make fun of all the new jargon Tumblr was experimenting with at the time that ended up muddling explanations about gender identity instead of clarifying them. That being said, it is a SHIT joke phrased in literally the worst way possible! I’d be shocked if someone DIDN’T read it as transphobic! IT’S SO BAD. If Past Jello pitched me that joke today I would throw that joke in the garbage can and chuck him out the window. In 2014, Tumblr was still trying to find its footing in regards to LGBT+ representation. Lots of blogs were experimenting with different terminology, much of which has been accepted into the mainstream today, like “Demisexuality”. It was also the first time I can remember people doing “Pronouns in Bio” as a way to represent yourself. Trans visibility was only just starting to blossom on the mainstream internet, and Tumblr had gained a reputation (for better or worse) as a place where people were free to figure out who they were, what they were, and what they wanted to call it. This is, objectively, a good thing. Of course, crafting new terminology for anything humans do-ESPECIALLY for something as complex as sexuality or gender identity-is no easy task. For every term that sticks you’re going to have a dozen that don’t. This is why we have umpteen lesbian flags, each with their own individual DISCOURSE HISTORIES. For many people 2014 Tumblr was the first stage they ever had to safely express themselves. “I’m bisexual.” “I’m poly.” “I’m transgender (male to female).” This was an enormous step for thousands and thousands of people. At the same time, others saw this, inexplicably, as a passing fad. Something that blogs were doing for “fun”, like they were putting a Hogwarts house in their bio to show what team they were a part of. People didn’t understand that this wasn’t a gimmick, it was a genuine expression of self. People saw popular blogs expressing their identity and they said “Oh! We’re making up new labels for ourselves! That’s fun!” That meant that for every sincere “Pansexual, 23, Female” blog you also had someone going on about being an AQUASEXUAL. Where they are ONLY ATTRACTED TO MERMAIDS!!! To people who saw the labels as a “gimmick”, getting pissed off at naysayers was part of the game. After all, if you DM a bisexual person and say “Psh! You’re not bisexual! You’re a man dating a woman! You’re straight!”, they will (rightfully) get mad! That meant people would defend their AQUASEXUALITY with the same righteous fervor that a trans person being misgendered would. Imagine how much damage this did. Imagine a person with no real knowledge of the LGBT+ community logging on and saying “Polysexuality? Now what’s this all about?” They read the bio and think “Huh. I don’t get it yet, but okay. This seems legit.” Then a few hours later they see a bright polka-dotted blog run by a BOZOSEXUAL. EXCLUSIVELY ATTRACTED TO CLOWNS. DO NOT QUESTION. CLOWN DMS ONLY, and the blog is filled with a literal circus of clownsex discourse about their honking red rubber penises. The person’s natural response would be “Oh! Oh so all this ‘sexuality in bio’ stuff is a big fucking joke and any LGBT+ rep I see is nonsense. Got it.” On top of that, you had nonstop discourse within sub-communities about which terms meant what and which ones were “official” and which ones were “problematic” and why. It was a clusterfuck. If you’ve ever seen someone debate about the nuanced differences between “bisexuality”, “pansexuality”, and “polysexuality”, it was kind of like that! Except for everything! And being debated exclusively by 15-year olds! I absolutely hated that shit! I hated the “fake clowngender for a popularity stunt” stuff. I hated the endless gatekeeping. I thought that those blogs were muddling the topic and LGBT+ representation looked ridiculous to an outside viewer at a time where it was crucial for people to be learning about that sort of thing! And THAT’S what I wanted to make fun of. You can see shades of this in the “Vagin-abled” joke and the laughably awful “use shoe polish to change your race” joke. Did I phrase those jokes poorly? ABSOLUTELY. They SUCK! Does my explanation make it make it better? NOT AT ALL! It absolves me of NOTHING! The only reason I’m even bringing this up is for the sake of completeness. It’s an explanation, not an excuse. Frankly, I super fucked up. I did an awful job six years ago, and this is my formal apology. I like to think that my work has been getting progressively better since then and I hope that it keeps getting better from here on out. I’m sorry if this video ever made you feel like shit. You didn’t deserve that and I was a dumb bastard. Also! To anyone that ever looked at this video and said “Ha ha! Yeah! Take that, you tumblypoos! You’re so dumb with your fake sexuality and genders! There’s only TWO genders! You, Jello, win one internet! Har har har!” Fuck you. I’m disgusted that you ever thought I was one of you and I hope you fall off a bridge. Trans rights. LGBT+ rights. Honestly loved the Welcome to series and really loved having these types of jokes (not the sexist and genderist shit just the sarcastic humor) being apart of my childhood because it helped me find something I was finally good at!
ah so this is why this is back in my recommended. i didnt see those jokes as direct jabs at the lgbt community 6 years ago but i do see how they come off that way now. originally i did think they were jokes about the people who as you used as an example in your comment were putting things like 'aquasexual' or whatever

I once saw a tumblr post saying that tumblr is a place where the bullied can become the bullies and then there was an argument back and forth and then someone pointed out that the person disagreeing with this is literally bullying rn
Disagreement isn't bullying in and of itself but I know tumblr well enough to say that the thing disagreeing was probably just attacking the person who brought it up in the first place because they couldn't think of any actual points.

I'm LGBTQ+ and don't see anything wrong with this video, and that joke is still entirely relevant. People have been legit trying to argue that the term "femboy" is transphobic, and that they are actually "eggs" who should just come out as trans women already, as if that notion isn't the actual transphobic thing. This is how I read that joke, btw, that sometimes the labels people come up with on social media have much more offensive connotations than the original terminology whenever you stop and think about them for more than five seconds.
that is a slur, but not for the reason you think. The term originated (and is still used) as a way to misgender and fetishize trans women. the literal definition is not feminine boy. there are other terms to describe the type of guy who likes to dress as a girl, but that word is not one of them. i really hope this helps.

@@JayneAFK there are other words to describe that type of guy! roseboy being the first one that comes to mind. all this coming from somebody who used to identify as that, but once one of my very close friends who is a trans girl finally expressed her extreme discomfort with the term and told me why she didn't like it and its history, i just stopped using it! no word is worth making her or any other trans girl uncomfortable, especially when i could never even begin to know exactly what her experience is, nor will i pretend to know her history more than she does just because i want to use a word i like using because of the definition i thought it had. i just want you to take stuff like this into mind, especially considering the vast amount of trans women dont actually want men to stop dressing femininely. they just dont want people to keep using a word that hurts the community.

If the character's race is never discribed, then I feel like it's up to interpritation. For example, I am a huge Harry Potter fan, but I never remembered Hermionie's color being described. I personally saw her as mixed, but that's probablly because I relate to her and I'm mixed.

Say you were sexually abused by your boyfriend, and he just happened to be a fan of ACDC. Now, whenever ACDC comes on, you feel unsafe. Is this, too, a trigger? The answer to all of these scenarios is YES. The brain is funky and fucking weird, and PTSD manifests in wavy pathways that make whatever connections to your trauma it wants to. I'm speaking as someone who's diagnosed with PTSD and actually *has* a "weird trigger". Its frustrating when nobody believes me.
A song was played at dad and stepmoms wedding and every time I hear that dam song I start to panic, every time I go down this one road I start ro panic becuse it reminds me of the drive her house and all the things that happened there. People don't understand how simple songs, words or places can effect me. I am afraid of adults that look like her or have her name. People just ignore my panic from it. Triggers are hard and people shouldn't make fun of them.
I don't think he wanted to say that there aren't valid "triggers". I understood it more as a Satire against those wannabe traumatised people who just want attention. Sometimes it's hard to believe they exist, even in real life. I only knew one Person but they were the resemblence of "social media Depression " who had every possible anxiety dissorder type, had a Millionen trigger words, topics or actions but was never ready to work on their issues and rather just told everybody how bad their life is. So yeah.... i think that was that kind of Person he was reffering to 😅. I am very sorry that some people don't take these things seriously and just think you are a "attention wh*re". I was in mental medical treatment myself, for a couple years. It does hurt see people on the Internet use social anxiety or other disorders to justify their behaviour. Just because someone identifies with lots of anxiety disorders and has a lot of triggers, it doesn't necessarily mean they're faking it to get attention or that they deserve to be belittled. It's very likely that they're struggling with SOMETHING and they're trying to identify what that something is. I really dont like when people think that over the top "attention seeking" behavior should be ignored and made fun of simply because that person is affecting others in a way that isn't preferred. Of course they shouldnt use that to justify their behavior, or to say they shouldn't work on their issues, but they still don't deserve to be made fun of. I'm sick of the "social media Depression" stereotype. As someone who WAS stuck in a place where he has trouble identifying what was wrong with him and didn't know where to start to work on his issues, I completely understand that kind of situation.

I don’t get it yet, but okay. This seems legit.” Then a few hours later they see a bright polka-dotted blog run by a BOZOSEXUAL. EXCLUSIVELY ATTRACTED TO CLOWNS. DO NOT QUESTION. CLOWN DMS ONLY, and the blog is filled with a literal circus of clownsex discourse about their honking red rubber penises.
The person’s natural response would be “Oh! Oh so all this ‘sexuality in bio’ stuff is a big fucking joke and any LGBT+ rep I see is nonsense. Got it.”
On top of that, you had nonstop discourse within sub-communities about which terms meant what and which ones were “official” and which ones were “problematic” and why. It was a clusterfuck. If you’ve ever seen someone debate about the nuanced differences between “bisexuality”, “pansexuality”, and “polysexuality”, it was kind of like that! Except for everything! And being debated exclusively by 15-year olds!
I absolutely hated that shit! I hated the “fake clowngender for a popularity stunt” stuff. I hated the endless gatekeeping. I thought that those blogs were muddling the topic and LGBT+ representation looked ridiculous to an outside viewer at a time where it was crucial for people to be learning about that sort of thing! And THAT’S what I wanted to make fun of. You can see shades of this in the “Vagin-abled” joke and the laughably awful “use shoe polish to change your race” joke.
Did I phrase those jokes poorly? ABSOLUTELY. They SUCK!
Does my explanation make it make it better? NOT AT ALL! It absolves me of NOTHING! The only reason I’m even bringing this up is for the sake of completeness. It’s an explanation, not an excuse.
Frankly, I super fucked up. I did an awful job six years ago, and this is my formal apology. I like to think that my work has been getting progressively better since then and I hope that it keeps getting better from here on out. I’m sorry if this video ever made you feel like shit. You didn’t deserve that and I was a dumb bastard.

@@MrGamelover23 not really, like I said, I feel like most people saw it coming, anything trying to be accepting of everything will collapse in on itself, I believe there was a period were the feminists were angry with the gays because they felt that that particular sexual orientation was a personal attack on the female gender, I don't know much about it feel free to do that research yourself, but it helps paint a picture, you have a group of people yelling how there equal to men, while also slandering men as pigs, you have have a group saying there is no gender while one group is pushing a certain gender that doesn't exist from the other groups point of view, you have all these different view points in one umbrella group there will inevitably be in fighting, especially when one group (the feminazis) are particularly violent, so no, this is not ironic, if you take a look at the extremes of these groups, and you put them in one room(tumblr) and wait, especially when the feminazi extreme is a powder keg, anyone with some common sense will be able to tell it's a recipe for disaster.

I'm LGBTQ+ and don't see anything wrong with this video, and that joke is still entirely relevant. People have been legit trying to argue that the term "femboy" is transphobic, and that they are actually "eggs" who should just come out as trans women already, as if that notion isn't the actual transphobic thing. This is how I read that joke, btw, that sometimes the labels people come up with on social media have much more offensive connotations than the original terminology whenever you stop and think about them for more than five seconds.
that is a slur, but not for the reason you think. The term originated (and is still used) as a way to misgender and fetishize trans women. the literal definition is not feminine boy. there are other terms to describe the type of guy who likes to dress as a girl, but that word is not one of them. i really hope this helps.

actually you'd be surprised at the creativity of transphobes! many, many derogatory terms and slurs are used for trans women, that word being particularly prominent in the porn category. it was created by transphobes to fetishize trans women while also denying their identity as women. but i'm seriously just trying to encourage you to look up the history and useage of a word before pretending gnc men made it up or even have the ability to reclaim it. i'm not trying to accuse you as a person of anything, but your insistence that that word is anywhere near comparable to the word tomboy is really weird and comes across as ignorant. please, please do your own research. @@JayneAFK
@@JayneAFK there are other words to describe that type of guy! roseboy being the first one that comes to mind. all this coming from somebody who used to identify as that, but once one of my very close friends who is a trans girl finally expressed her extreme discomfort with the term and told me why she didn't like it and its history, i just stopped using it! no word is worth making her or any other trans girl uncomfortable, especially when i could never even begin to know exactly what her experience is, nor will i pretend to know her history more than she does just because i want to use a word i like using because of the definition i thought it had. i just want you to take stuff like this into mind, especially considering the vast amount of trans women dont actually want men to stop dressing femininely. they just dont want people to keep using a word that hurts the community.

- Misgendering someone is an act of violence on par with beating the crap out of a person (even if it's an accident).
- White people are all racist from the cradle to the grave, and can never change that.
- Cisgender people are all transphobic from the cradle to the grave, and can never change that.
- Men are all misogynist from the cradle to the grave, and can never change that.
- If you are any of the above (white, male, cisgender) the world is a worse place by virtue of your very existence.
As someone who was medically diagnosed with ASD, I find Tumblr to be very annoying myself also.

The answer to all of these scenarios is YES. The brain is funky and fucking weird, and PTSD manifests in wavy pathways that make whatever connections to your trauma it wants to.
I'm speaking as someone who's diagnosed with PTSD and actually *has* a "weird trigger". Its frustrating when nobody believes me.
A song was played at dad and stepmoms wedding and every time I hear that dam song I start to panic, every time I go down this one road I start ro panic becuse it reminds me of the drive her house and all the things that happened there. People don't understand how simple songs, words or places can effect me. I am afraid of adults that look like her or have her name. People just ignore my panic from it. Triggers are hard and people shouldn't make fun of them.

I don't think he wanted to say that there aren't valid "triggers". I understood it more as a Satire against those wannabe traumatised people who just want attention. Sometimes it's hard to believe they exist, even in real life. I only knew one Person but they were the resemblence of "social media Depression " who had every possible anxiety dissorder type, had a Millionen trigger words, topics or actions but was never ready to work on their issues and rather just told everybody how bad their life is.
So yeah.... i think that was that kind of Person he was reffering to 😅. I am very sorry that some people don't take these things seriously and just think you are a "attention wh*re". I was in mental medical treatment myself, for a couple years. It does hurt see people on the Internet use social anxiety or other disorders to justify their behaviour.

Just because someone identifies with lots of anxiety disorders and has a lot of triggers, it doesn't necessarily mean they're faking it to get attention or that they deserve to be belittled. It's very likely that they're struggling with SOMETHING and they're trying to identify what that something is. I really dont like when people think that over the top "attention seeking" behavior should be ignored and made fun of simply because that person is affecting others in a way that isn't preferred.
Of course they shouldnt use that to justify their behavior, or to say they shouldn't work on their issues, but they still don't deserve to be made fun of. I'm sick of the "social media Depression" stereotype. As someone who WAS stuck in a place where he has trouble identifying what was wrong with him and didn't know where to start to work on his issues, I completely understand that kind of situation.
