Lawley evictions are unlawful - SAHRC

Lawley residents near Ennerdale rebuilt their shacks with what they could find in the remaining rubble. Red Ants and metro police officers stormed the area last week and started evicting residents and demolishing structures.

I live in Ennerdale Ext 5 I pay rates and taxes, water and lights. We share a sub-station with Lawley and due to the Illegal connections by the squatters we often find ourselves with no electricity due to overload of the transformer. During this lockdown we are required to work from home but seeing that my company is an essential service I am required to drive to Rivonia whenever the lights go out. in the past 2 weeks our lights have gone out 5 days in a row because of overload and it takes 4-8 hours to restore power to the transformer. yes agreed, it is sad to see their homes demolished but it is also sad that us as tax paying citizens have to suffer because of illegal settlements. the government should have stopped them when they started erecting their zozos not now when they have already build houses. now due to poor governance they should build these people their own sub-station and provide them with the essentials like electricity and running water. these people are not going to uproot now and leave face it!

the government is right malima must talk to his people to hold the land garbing the government cant deal with dis now they must arrest those fools coz if they dont all the people who are renting now on the next 3 months they wont have money to pay so think was going to to a plan for them
