You're mixing up two basic concepts. No new laws were passed in this ruling, so there is no "ex post facto" issues at play here. What happened was a question about EXISTING law concerning Presidential immunity made it's way up to SCOTUS and they ruled on what the law actually says about the issue. As such, they are saying that the law was always supposed to be interpreted this way, and that the lower courts were WRONG, so corrections have to be made. As the panel rightfully noted, Judge Merchan denied motions to delay the trial pending the results of the SCOTUS ruling, which means that this was actually part of the trial as well, so there's really no getting around it at this point, which is why the prosecution team are not putting up a fight against the defense creating their new motions despite the trial being "over".
The case violated due process. The jury could not agree on any crime. The judge ordered them to say Trump was guilty of they believed he had committed any crime at all.

I didn't go to law school, but from what I remember from high school. class, there were 3 equal branches of government. legislative, executive, and judicial. well, now they are no longer equal according to the Supreme Court.

You're mixing up two basic concepts. No new laws were passed in this ruling, so there is no "ex post facto" issues at play here. What happened was a question about EXISTING law concerning Presidential immunity made it's way up to SCOTUS and they ruled on what the law actually says about the issue. As such, they are saying that the law was always supposed to be interpreted this way, and that the lower courts were WRONG, so corrections have to be made.
As the panel rightfully noted, Judge Merchan denied motions to delay the trial pending the results of the SCOTUS ruling, which means that this was actually part of the trial as well, so there's really no getting around it at this point, which is why the prosecution team are not putting up a fight against the defense creating their new motions despite the trial being "over".
The case violated due process. The jury could not agree on any crime. The judge ordered them to say Trump was guilty of they believed he had committed any crime at all.
