As spring awakens the hills, we make more progress on the off grid cabin. I get me old blue truck back out of the shop and meet with an old friend to check out some secret fishing holes and spend golden hour at his families farm. Then we end up making a serious transformation at the cabin on a magic day when the cotton woods blew.

I had waited for TWO MONTHS to take my road test in NY and a week before, almost 10 inches of snow had fallen.
I PRAYED that by the day of the test, most of the streets and the Meadowbrook Parkway would be drivable.
It was February of 1986 & I showed up in my dad's '64 Ford Falcon. Turquoise, red interior, & white walls.
First, the instructor wanted to take off because inside that car the directional indicator/blinker only had a little square to indicate that you had your blinker on. It was up to you as a driver to be smart enough to know your left from your right🙄.
I did my hand signals though.
We set off & along the way, he tried to throw me a curve by telling me to make a left on a certain street that I knew was a one way and I kept going straight😊
Then we got on the parkway, I signaled, change lanes properly, etc.
And now was the grand finale!
Parallel parking😮
I had the back in and was struggling w all my might to turn the wheel in the but then he said softly...let off the brake a little...and I GOT IT🤗
We were both smiling when I was done. I was smiling because I passed. But he said he was smiling because he got to ride around our little 5-mile town in such a cool car😂

I live in Chicago and the city has really been getting me down lately. I've been scouring CZcams for cabins in the woods, adventure videos, national park hikes, etc. etc. etc. and your channel popped up one day. It's so calming to see even the mundane of the lives you and Ally live. Reminds me that everyone is at a different point in their lives, you can't assume something about someone based on what they post, lots of people struggle with the same things you do, and many different things too. I'm also a photographer and have made a couple short films - your cinematography is breathtaking. It's so lush in some videos I feel like I can feel the air. Anyway, thanks for putting these videos out. I know it isn't easy to put your life, art, and ideas out into the public eye. Much love
