I have on occasion been asked to Pipe from an outside point to an interior point within an air conditioned room. My worst case scenario is having all four (drones and chanter) going ballistic when I enter an air conditioned room. I recently played at a memorial, in an interior room where the room was full of people and the AC was kicking. I became concerned with my chanter reed going sharp, which it did. I got through the tune without a lot of gracing's and fortunately it sounded OK, but not great. The outside weather in the south is notorious for extremes in temperature and extremes in humidity. It is not uncommon during some seasons, that the temp will go from 57 to 75 within a few hours, and pipes have to be re-tuned. Would this work, say in an air conditioned room? Even if the Pipes were stationary an hour before playing?

Yes! Your pipes will sound better and will stay in turn much better if you have stabilized the moisture level in the reeds. The tuning will be greatly enhanced if you can keep your reed from getting overly dry in between playing sessions. It works !
