As you have already seen in many comments, this song was the favorite of the late Ann Waychoff, an elderly lady from Pennsylvania, who dedicated the last years of her life to the promotion of Nightwish, the band she loved. Ann used to welcome the new reactors with a short history of the band and some kind words. Often, she recommends this song for a future reaction. Thanks to her tactful and diplomatic approaches, Ann managed to gather around her a large group of fans, being like an island of peace in the middle of the conflicts that often appeared. When Ann was hospitalized and could no longer meet the new reactors, I started posting the band history comment on her behalf, because the impact of her message was and is positive, helping the reactors understand that what they are listening to now it has behind it a musical evolution of more than a quarter of a century

@@Amiekinz4ever hey Aimie you have so much more WOW to go with this band & Floor,re their popularity,they are known worldwide but thanks to the N.American music/media industry they are either too arrogant to acknowledge this immense talent or too ignorant to even be aware of it as they are focused on pop/hip hop "stuf" 90% of which sounds dreadful live, I have seen many many of the greats in person,Scorpions,Journey,Queensryche(Tate),Tool,Triumph,Kiss,White Zombie,Motley C.,Aerosmith,Korn,Stabbing Westward,Alice inC.,STP,& many more, but none comes close to NW Live esp Wacken 2013 & thats from a YT video !!! FYI when you do Yours Is An Empty Hope DONT do the Mex City venue version, Wembley 2015 is far better for audio,video,stage & performance 95% of fans would agree. cheers oh btw wanna see /react to Floor in her previous band that will blow your mind ?

``How are they not popular in the US`` is a question of decade`s . I found them about 15 years ago while listening to another band ``Within Tempation`` who are from the Netherlands. also not popular here. What a crime!!
U.S. radio wants 2.5 minute songs that all follow the same formula. Ghost Love Score has a minute of instrumental intro, a minute and a half of orchestral interlude and a minute of instrumental outro, to go along with constant key and timing changes and full style switches. It would require a media executive to go way out on a limb to take the risk of playing any thing creative.

One thing most people don't notice is how tuned in Floor is to the shots and band. She knows every hit and rhythm. She is just as precise rhythmically as the rest of the band. And the verses in this song are in 7/4. And reminds me of Carmina Berana.
Floor has incredible rhythm she's moves perfect with the music that's another thing that separates her , most of the metal front woman have no rhythm.

You can see Floor was having such a good time. She is this Valkyrie goddess on the stage. When she steps off the stage, she is a lovely, humble person. No diva, no arrogance, a down to earth lady who knows what she can do on the stage and how hard she has worked to get this good.

I felt the way you did when I discovered this band. How could I have never heard of a band this great!? I am from the United States also (Georgia) and I am 56, heard some great music from many genres and times. Nightwish blows me away as a band, and Floor for me is the greatest vocalist I have ever heard.

No 2 in my favourites list.
Marco is superb - I love his second entry (the rising gliss) so much I extracted it and have it as my ringtone.
Favourite parts:
Piano Black , and particularly the best description of depression I've heard - "sometimes the within is piano black". Piano black - that deep glossy black that almost evades the eye.
Emppu holding that long note one-handed as he drinks a Corona.
The unexpected pauses (rests) towards the end, particularly, in this performance, when Floor turns her hands upwards and the flames seem to come from her palms.
Great chuggy rhythms in the breakdown.
Little pizzicato string sections in the run-up to that ending.
At the end the lead vocals use the same lyrics as the choir are singing in the earlier parts -
"All that great heart lying still and slowly dying
All that great heart lying still on an angelwing". That lyric is perfect for the staccato rhythm.

I think the magic of nightwish is that every member of the band can take any tone needed from their instruments to perfectly match what the song needs any given moment. And Floors voice is the same and for that reason a perfect match for the music.
The album version of this song contains a poem at the end. I think that version is worth to check out as well

This band hit my playlist around 4 years ago. Now it pretty well IS my playlist. And I heard Zeppelin live twice, and ran sound for some pretty good rock bands for 18 years so I've been doing music for a while.
Well Amie, Nightwish is one of the most underrated bands of this world. For example, they are almost never been played in the Netherlands on the radio. And then there are from the Netherlands: Epica, Within Temptation, Ayreon.

This song is a tribute to the poem in 52 chapters, One for every week of the year, " Song of myself " by Walt Whitman 1819-1892.(one of the co-founders of US poetry). The 7th line of the song is ""Of mermaids, of Whitman's and the Ride""". The extended official studio version of this song has, at the end, a poem as a tribute to Whitman made by Tuomas, the keyboard player and the mastermind of nightwish. These lines you can also see fast flahing on the ledscreen of the video you just saw.

Fabulous reaction again ❤, by my reckoning Nightwish have released about 140+ album tracks (I have them all but couldn’t be bothered counting them), there are only 2 tracks that I have taken off my Nightwish playlist - which is an amazing ratio compared to any other band I listen to. And I am THAT guy in a Nightwish concert. Im just paralyzed to take in everything i hear and see - dont want to create any kind of disturbance to fully immerse in to the athmosphere they create. I would propably stop breathing if it wasnt neccesarry to see the rest of the show..
So to me its certainly not lack of enthusiasm - its just total concentration and clearing my mind to get absorbed to their show. One reason being the stage presense of the band and production on stage - there is more than "just" the music to soak in.

Well I must admit that The Carpenter and Harvest are bad songs FOR ME. I don`t like those two. But otherwise, Tuomas writes the most magical and beautiful music I have ever experienced

It's just Nightwish doing Nightwish things - exceptional as always. There's not many more impressive sounds than Floor in full rock-chick mode, belting it out in her first register. If you are a fan of Rock Floor, try one of her side projects, called Northward, with the song "While Love Died".

Indeed, there is no orchestra on stage, but:
Keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen uses samples from orchestral pieces and choirs in collaboration with the London Philharmonic Orchestra (producer Pip Williams, who also produced albums for Status Quo and The Moody Blues). All the choir voices are from The Metro Voices Gospel Choir (in cooperation with the LPO)
