Thank you so much for this video explaining how this new rotary tool works, I can't wait to see more.
Thank you very much!
Keep posting these great vids of this fabulous machine. Looking forward to see all your fixes.
Thanks for watching!
Much better overview and review than the xTool announcement live stream. Much appreciated. Will be throwing a tip your way on thingiverse when I pick up your waste board feet and engrave.
Thank you very much! Completely not necessary but always appreciated.
Thanks a bunch! Some vital info here- most appreciated. Looking forward to any additional tutelage.
Thank you!
YES PLEASE MORE VIDEO on the tumblers !
Given the D1 pro does not use relative coordinates, I've been wondering why people keep using grids. You've finally explained it. very useful!
Hey Ryan Thanks for the videos man! I couldn't comment on your round logo on tapered items, but I just watched it about 2 times and it all made sense and solved my problem in trying to create a round logo on a tapered tumbler. much appreciated and I subscribed, looking forward to your content thanks.
Thank you. Not sure why you couldn't comment on the other video but welcome!
I preordered mine during the live event. Excited for it to ship.
Very cool!
I ordered mine and don't even have a laser yet I knew I wanted one and I couldn't beat the price
The good part is that it can be used with any laser if you decide to go with something else.
I was thinking the same thing myself haha
@@djfunkycraig well I finally got the xtool and my cnc so I'm good
Thank you so much for the information and time to share your knowledge. Extremely helpful
You are so welcome!
Awesome videos, very informative. Looking forward to seeing more videos from you.
Thank you! Appreciate it.
You can flip the main Chuck around facing away from the flat platform. Then put it up on a riser block. Then it will spin all the way around even with a handle. Be sure to add weight to the flat part to keep it from tipping
Yes. That is what I did in the video. I had also seen someone who designed a extender to lift the chuck up higher on the platform so that wasn't needed.
More videos like this please. Thx again
Dude thanks for the grid...it's going to be a big help lining everything up
You bet
@@BusterBeagle3D can you make the grid a png or something that we can open in lightburn or XCS?
@@brettessick3953 The grid files that I sell on Etsy come with both Lightburn and XCS files in the folder. You should have versions for both when you get it.
Yes please make more videos!
thks much. really appreciate your help
Great video, as I'm not a big fan of using laserbox basic, any chance you can make a video using lightburn, or what are the settings for the rotary chuck in lightburn, I'm struggling on getting perfect circles when using the rotary chuck, rollers no problem but rotary chuck, thanks in advance
I just ordered the 4-1 rotary for the M1. Hope you do a set up and review on this one also.
Maybe one day. Don't currently have plans for to get the M1 but you never know!
Ryan, how do you figure out how far away to place the laser head from the material you are engraving to ensure a nice engrave? I noticed in the film you didnt have the orange protective cover on the Xtool. Is this something that is standard or something you do personally? Many thanks for the great videos!
Thank you for your videos. Looking forward to your video on round logos. How do you check the distance in Lightburn for doing round logos.
I don’t use Lightburn but it’s not really a Lightburn or laserbox basic setting anyway. You have to calculate for something called the arc length. I will go over it more when I’m able to make the video.
Just bought, going any tips I can get!, video informative
Great video. Just one question, what spray or covering do you use for the glass, and metal, which works best for you. I know there are products like Cermark and Brilliance, but they are expensive, so what do you use?
It's just Dollar Tree black tempura paint slightly watered down and sprayed through an $11 airbrush from harbor freight. Works really well. www.harborfreight.com/quick-change-airbrush-kit-93506.html
Thank you. I’m struggling with the adjustments in lightburn to compensate for tapering and also aligning the leveling attachment with center of glass. Your explanation of things is easy to understand and very helpful. Thanks again, please keep making videos.
Thank you very much. I appreciate it!
very helpful
Definately would like to see a video on making perfect circles on tapered mugs. Do I assume if its not tapered no changes are necessary?
Even if it’s not tapered to make a circle appear correct you need to calculate what is called the arc length. That’s is why circles look like ovals on tumblers and glasses.
Yes, please make a video explaining this! And also how to make squares or rectangles look vertically correct on tapered tumblers.
Good video, u hopefully get a xtool and 3D printer soon. I like u videos, them very helpful! 🐶🥰
Great video! When you screw in the laser feet, how do you deal with using a honeycomb like the Xtool one that comes with a metal sheet, the sheet would extend under the laser feet? Just trying to setup my system. Thanks!
I just use the honeycomb while cutting. I use the grid to help line it up so that the honeycomb is square but I don't really use absolute coordinates while cutting as there really is no way to display the grid on the honeycomb.
GREAT VIDEO AS ALWAYS.. FINALLY SUBSCRIBED TO "ALL". Would love to see your video on the ARC correction as it's a PITA to figure out.
You can find that video here: czcams.com/video/SV3Zfqnhyag/video.html
@@BusterBeagle3D I found it.. watching it now.. the taper then 10%. thanks for making it easy to figure out.
For the mug handle problem, couldn't you pop in a little piece of plastic or wood block with proper distance holes and use longer screws/bolts to attach it. Just large enough so the handle wouldn't hit. At least until they came out with something better
No need to. You can flip the attachments head around to face away from the flat platform and put it on a little riser block. Then it can go all the way around with the handle.
Love your video. How do you engrave black on your white mugs? Thank you.
Hi. I use the same method you would use on a white tile. It’s called the Norton White Tile method and it includes coating the surface with a spray paint that has titanium dioxide (Rustoleum 2X Ultra Cover Ivory Silk) and engraving in the surface. Then wipe it away the excess spray paint with acetone. If you search Norton White Tile method on CZcams you will find lots of videos on it.
You mentioned mirroring the image because the chuck rotates in the opossite direction. But actually you can just rotate the rotary tool itself 180 degrees and this will solve your issue without the need for mirroring.
i have my laser and rotary on order, hoping to have it soon! You mentioned that you are giving away the files to print the sockets thathold the engraver in place. where can I get a copy off these?
This is where you can find the original feet. www.thingiverse.com/thing:5098673. If you are looking for the updated grid that works with Lightburn and XTool creative space you can find that here. www.etsy.com/listing/1277584267
I noticed that you took off your air assist (I'm still using your 3d printed one I ordered from etsy). Do you generally remove for engraving or video purposes?
Hello Andrea. Yes I like to remove it if the machine is not being used for cutting. I do more engraving then cutting so it's probably better to have it off if you are not going to be cutting very often.
I want to use that grid with a waffer board...any suggestions?
Looks like a great tool but can you tell me if it will work with the China red and black 100W laser?
I’m not familiar with that machine. It would need to be able to be hooked up with a stepper driver 4 or 5 pin connection.
I'm looking to purchase a chuck style rotary attachment for a Monport 55w laser that uses a 2 phase stepper motor. Is this compatible? I'm wanting to engrave powder coated tumblers. 20 oz and 30 oz. Thoughts?
I see! 😁
I want to do tumblers, I wonder if I the 2 or the first version would work.
Both versions can do tumblers successfully.
I love the grid with the spots for the rotary. i dont have an x-tool or their software. So i cant open the files. do yo have the grid with the references that can open in lightburn?
All of the gird are available on Etsy with both xTool Creative Space and Lightburn versions of the files. www.etsy.com/shop/BusterBeagle3D
I need to use this roller with my other laser ORTUR 2 & 3 I simply need to know which cables are compatible and which adapters I need to use.
I would like to see you do a video on which cables. compatible with other machines the Addams Stack seems to work fine with my ORTUR Pro 2 & Pro 3 but I would like to be able to use the rotary check with my ORTUR Pro 2 & Pro 3 when I got mine, the rotary Chuck was not available so someone gave me there. D1 X Tool & I want to use it with my existing ORTUR Pro 2 & Pro 3
Can I still use lazerbox basis with the Ra rotary
Thanks so much just order another set of the feet on esty...but where is the download for the RA2 pro grid? thank you
If you ordered the feet from me on Etsy I would have sent a link in the messages on that site. If you didn't get it then reach out there and I can re-send the link.
Have you ever had a problem with smaller tapered glasses slipping while using the roller with the leveling tool? The right hand side of each job keeps coming out skewed and compressed
I haven't really had many issues but perhaps a rubber band around the glass may help.
When are ya gonna sell the Step jaws? I'm waiting to see what you will offer for this.
Hello. The stepped jaws are part of the kit. No need to purchase those separately.
Did you make your grid setup, if so is there a program that will make it?
I had made these grids in the xTool software Laserbox basic. You can find a link to them in the description if you wanted them.
BB3D,
Does one need to purchase the new module they offer to laser designs on plastic items and things like the Alexa?? Thanks bud!
To do something like an Alexa you would need to RA2 chuck. It unfortunately can not be added onto the the old rollers but must be bought as part of the set for the new RA2 Pro rollers.
Hi, great review! Can this engrave inside a bracelet or ring?
Yes. With the ring adapter and tilting the whole unit up a few degrees.
@@BusterBeagle3D Thank you!
Would this plug in to the onefinity elite series do you know?
Hi. What did you use on the coffee mug to etch in black?
I had spray painted the mug with Rustoleum 2X painters touch Ivory Silk and then removed it acetone after the burn. You are seeing it in the video after it was already done just to show the motion.
Hey Buster I have a question/ I have a xtool D1 non pro with the RA2. Can I buy the chuck seperatly to work on my RA2?
Hello. Unfortunately no. Two reasons. First there are no holes on the rotary to mount it and two there would need to be an extension of the stepper motor gear that sticks out of the back for the belt to drive the chuck.
Not sure how to download to lightburn ... Say file not reconized
At the 7:07 mark when you are doing the tapered glass, it looks like the leveling device is at an angle. Is there a reason for that?
Might have just been a weird camera angle. It should have been level.
Im using lightburn with the RA-2. I went to download your bed grid. It is a lqx file. I even download the xtool laserbox software. How do you open the lqx file?
Currently .lqx files can only be imported into Laserbox basic.
can you do this same tutorial but with light burn please
I unfortunately do not yet have lightburn installed.
i downloaded the file for grid but how dose it open. Says LQX file. im using the xtool create software
Hello. The older grid file was created in XTool Laserbox basic. It’s the older version of the software for the machine. It’s the one software that can open that file. I do have newer / better files that work in creative space that you can find here. www.etsy.com/listing/1277584267/xtool-d1-pro-gridfeetlightburnxtool?click_key=000136860db7e4fa2984dba303a40e228319348d%3A1277584267&click_sum=5547a158&ref=shop_home_recs_2&crt=1&sts=1
The link for the grid spoil board doesn't work. Is there another way to access that?
You have to download the files one at a time. The download all button will not work.
Great video but, I'm having problems reaching the grid file...
Be sure you are only downloading one file at a time. The download all button on Thingiverse seems to not work with .lqx files.
@@BusterBeagle3D Thanks!
What are you using to engrave clear glass? What was that grey coating?
Airbrushed on very slightly diluted Black Tempura Paint
Oh sorry. In the video that was cold compound spray but don't bother with it. Sprayed on black Tempura Paint with a cheap $11 airbrush from Harbor Freight works way better and is easier.
Very good video earn yourself a sub my good sir
Thank you and welcome!
Do all images need to be mirrored on cups and tumblers?
You can rotate the rotary 180 degrees physically. This will eliminate the need to mirror the image.
I am trying to open the grid software into Laserbox and dont know how to do it. Can you walk me through it so that I can use it.
It can only be imported in Laserbox basic and and used with the original D1. The D1 Pro version is something I'm working on uploading as we speak. If you are trying to use it with the older D1 you can watch the video here. czcams.com/video/2zoKgH0o9Js/video.html
was the ra2 pro grid made in Laserbox or laser burn
It was made in Laserbox Basic.
Hi. How do I make the grid board for the rotary?
Hello. You can find the grid files here: busterbeagle3d.etsy.com/listing/1277584267
Is there a weight limit on the chuck
I think the live stream said 3kg
What speed and power to use for engraving straight on a coffee cup?
I never burned just directly on the cup. I used the Norton White Tile method on the mug. Just search that on NWT on CZcams or Facebook and you will find lots of videos/posts about it.
I have an Xtool d1. How can I open your grid file on my Windows Laptop using Lightburn?
Unfortunately no. The grid was made using Laserbox basic so it's only usable in Laserbox Basic.
Would this unit be compatible with Comgrow Z1 Pro 20W Output Laser Engraver?
It's mainly just a stepper motor so as long as it comes with a wire setup that is compatible with the Comgrow machine it should work. If I remember correctly it did come with a few different hookups so it's quite possible or you could buy the connection you need aftermarket if it doesn't.
Can I this be used directly to the computer without a laser? I want to use a drill press not a laser
If you can figure out how to control a Nema 17 stepper motor from a computer I suppose it’s possible. Usually it needs some sort of controller but I’m sure someone had figured it out.
Can I use this grid download for xtool creative space?
Yes. All of the XTool grids have creative space versions.
do you happen to know if this is compatible with OMTCH MF1220-50 50W, please?
I don't know for sure but I'm guessing if it does you would have to get the version that works with the CO2 machine and not the D1. The only difference is the plug that comes with it is an aviation plug that seems to be the same as the rotary that OMT sells.
I have tried to download the grid and open it in xtool creative space but have been unsuccessful. Is the file not compatible with creative space?
If you are talking about the old one on Thingiverse that one only opens in the old software called Laserbox Basic. If you are talking about the newer ones off of Etsy those should open in Creative Space and Lightburn. For XCS make sure you are using the .xcs file. Also make sure you unzip the folder before trying to open the file.
Can you please put the grid file in your Etsy store? TIA!
The grid file is free. You can find it here. It's the RA2PRo_Grid.lqx file.
www.thingiverse.com/thing:5098673/files
How do you install the grid into xtool
I have a whole other video on that here: czcams.com/video/BjurBn4UGZg/video.html
Does anyone know if it's compatible with sculpfun S10?
As long as it hooks up with a 4 or 5 pin stepper motor wire it should be compatible.
Do you have a copy of the new grid for Lightburn?
Unfortunately no. I only have the Laserbox basic version. I don’t have Lightburn installed yet.
@@BusterBeagle3D Thx, What are the distances from the center line to A, B & C lines?
@@DK-dp5gz 20mm, 38mm and 48mm I believe
hmmm what opens an lqx file?
You can only open an .lqx in Laserbox Basic. It was the predecessor of XTool Creative Space. If you are looking for a grid for that you can find it here. www.etsy.com/listing/1277584267
I know beggars can't be choosers, but any chance you'd share the SVG file of the grid? Then we can import it into Lightburn.
It was made in Laserbox Basic so unfortunately there is no SVG file.
Is it compatible with Sculpfun s30 pro max?
Should be. It's just a simple Nema 17 Stepper motor connection and the RA2 Pro comes with multiple connection options.
@@BusterBeagle3D Thank you for the information. I want to buy laser for engrave but now i am looking and searching the best options
@@BusterBeagle3D for now i think the sculpfun s30 pro max is the best options for price/quality but their roller is trash. Thats why i want laser with this ra2 roller
Собаку вниз головой выгравировал :)
The RA2 pro is an RA2 plus an extra box of gear to make it a pro but xtools will not sell the extra box to people with an RA2. They want you to buy the whole thing again. Pretty shady.
Even if they sold the chuck by itself it would not fit or work with the RA2. You would have to change the base plate with a hole through where the motor is so that you can stick another stepper motor with an extra gear though it to attach the belt. You would also have to drill and tap mounting holes for the chuck in the base plate as well. The original RA2 also doesn't come with the riser bar or the holder for the round objects. So while there are similar aspects to both the parts between the 2 are not interchangeable.
Cmon xtool, get it together
Not sure what they need to get together but maybe I should go back and watch my own video to find out.
Friend,I really appreciate your work. We are looking for reviewers, would you like to review Longer's laser engraver RAY5 10W?
Hello and thank you for the offer. I love my LK5 Pro 3D printer and use it daily as my most dependable machine. I however have a few laser reviews stacked up an can't take on more right now but I may in the future. Thanks again!
