      This is a comment that's been repeated but I'll answer this again. Yes, that's sort of a solution but travel mugs are either tacky plastic or lined with metal. Tea tastes horrible out of both and in the comfort of my own home I don't feel like compromising. Someone else suggested IKEA mugs with a tiny handle at the very top and they sort of look OK, and they would work, but I'll be honest - not crazy about them.

      @@NoPunIncluded it would not be too difficult to carefully cut out a slot as you were mentioning. I would scribe lines where the cut was going to go and use either a brand new very sharp mini hacksaw blade and brace and just manually cut it carefully, or use a motorized dremel type cutting tool with the aluminum oxide disc cutting wheel and carefully,slowly cut down as far as ya think it needs to be.
      The wood would be fairly easy and use a chisel to cut out the chunk ya dont want the rest of the way but then the remaining metal piece would need to be scribed along the inside horizontally where you want the bottom of the slot to be and then depending on the type of metal i would try and carefully bend the metal at the scribe line where you want the lowest edge of the slot and the metal could be carefully broken off smooth and then would just require some filing to finish all the edges.
      Or if the slot doesnt need to be very deep, a larger grinder wheel (like 8 cm diameter X 1-2cm thick) could be used in a drill and a slot, carefully , slowly ground out to the depth ya need. Then just a little filing to finish smoothing.
      A furniture repairman should be able to do it for you i would think, if they were comfortable with doing a custom mod like that.

    "This is not something that you have to buy, these tables are very expensive", I took my kitchen table and converted it into a gaming table in a weekend. It is not even remotely as nice but if you just want to have a table to eat on and then play games on a felt surface it is pretty simple to do.

    • @z-beeblebrox
      @z-beeblebrox Před 4 lety +2

      Sure, and that's a great solution, but that's starting from the premise of already having a table in the first place. Once you leave the land of Ikea (and even within it) furniture in general is pretty expensive, and wood furniture is typically even more expensive than that. So it depends on perspective. If you're already looking at regular boring normalman tables at around $800, you may as well look at a convertible gaming table for slightly more

Considering I got my IKEA table for 150 GBP and it can comfortably seat 10 people if need be and still looks almost new after 3 years of daily use, I don't think being able to pause a game in progress AND settling for a smaller table is worth 1000+ extra pounds.

The pocket inside is about 7cm or 3 inches tall. Originally the table new was probably $80, if that. I've been making my own gaming tables for a couple years now, I raise the table slightly, and then add a skirt around the bottom of the table with slide through rails which will hold the leaves under the table that can be pulled out on either side as a table for manuals or laptop etc. I also move the card holder grove out from the table edge so you can see the bottom of the cards.

    • @MrKing0fTown
      @MrKing0fTown Před 4 lety +1

      Yes, but if you have a small space it's perfect. A lot of people don't have room for a big table anywhere. He mentioned all of it in the previous table video about why it had to be a certain size, and had to be able to cover the game area.
      Besides, if you're playing a game of TI, just grab all the tv trays around the house and set them up for your tech boards :P

    • @robertyoung8615
      @robertyoung8615 Před 4 lety

      I have a Jasper from board game tables dot com and it has been pretty for everything. Yes we've even played 4p Lisboa comfortably on the playing surface.
      The ONLY games we've had to play on the topper which unlike this table actually increases the area of the table is Heroes of Land Air and Sea because the playmat is massive.
      Even Rising Sun with its playmat was fine for a 5p game on the game surface.
      If I recall correctly that game surface size is 5'*3.5' which becomes roughly 5.5'*4'' with the topper on.
      For an $1100 table shipped I can't recommend it enough. The build quality is excellent and the finish on the table looks great.
      The ONLY knock I can make on it is it doesn't have any tech upgrades on it like the charging ports but it has rails for cupholders, extended trays etc. Honestly I don't think I could even utilize the charging ports because of where its positioned anyway.

    Geeknson make good tables but they aren't to my taste. I find the game well/surface is too deep and they are not "Fancy" enough to justify the expense. I do appreciate that much of the expense comes from the materials and craftsmanship involved but let's be honest, does that matter that much to the majority of gamers sitting around your table eating crisps and drinking beer (including the owner)? I do like the leafs though. I always imagine that I'd leave 1 leaf in at the end of the table and use that as a Game Master station. A cost effective alternative for those of us not fortunate enough to be given a table is the GameTopper, however the cost increases dramatically the farther away they have to be shipped from the United States (I live in Canada so it isn't too bad).

    They could use simple latches to keep the tabled locked, and then release the latch and have the weight of the table rotate itself like meat on a spit roast. I suppose the only disadvantage is that you can't keep your games on the table across multiple days - but if you're already using it as a dining table also.....

    Never got them and eventually gave up even emailing them, putting it down to experience. Also the final versions had a serious build quality drop as compared to the prototype (so don't expect the table shown here to totally reflect the final product).

    I could shell out $100 in this COVID era for Frosthaven... because I mean, Isaac is awesome. As much as I really want a nice gaming table though, $1,100+ is ridonkulous. I'm very jelly that you got it for free though. I expect to see it featured in all your upcoming videos!
