    I'm deaf as well and use the app all the time. There was one time when I placed an order, went to WhatABurger, and parked at the curbside to pick up my food. An employee came up to me and asked if I had ordered a meal. I showed him my phone with the order number and details. He went inside and brought me the food I ordered, along with a paper explaining that I was actually at the wrong address. What he did was cancel the order at the original location and then made the food for me there. That was really cool.
    Anyway, you should definitely include another test run but with the app. See how that goes. It's equivalent to using the touchscreen at McDonald's, but even better since you don't have to wait in the drive-thru line.

      Right but if we lives in 2000s or before there was no technologies. That's why we need to learn WITHOUT technologies!

    • @IrishMerlin1
      @IrishMerlin1 Před 20 dny +2

      @@cajunla.jtr.0057 I get what you're saying, but we’re not living in the 2000s anymore. We've come a long way, and technology is a big part of our lives now. There was this one time I got denied service at a Taco Bell drive-thru because I'm deaf. Wish I had recorded it. If I had used the app, I wouldn’t have had to deal with that at all. You're right, they need to learn. I think it’s important for employees to get better training on how to accommodate everyone. So yeah, there are pros and cons. What we could do is email corporate for better employee training.

    Funny enough a week earlier I had this thought in my mind and I asked my mom “hey would I be able to hear in a drive thru?” (For context I was born with sensorineural hearing loss although I still have some hearing and my English is just fine as I had hearing aids since like I think I was three-)
    Now I know an idea of what it would be like for me! Thanks man, subbed. Glad I’m not the only hoh/deaf person who worries about those things
    Also, yes… those sonic screens (and literally any drive thru speaker) are the BANE OF MY EXISTENCE I know my dad was ordering and I was attempting to figure out what the people were saying (and failed)
    Anyways, nice video fr

    At Sonic there's a small bit of text at the bottom right (I think) that says to honk if you need help ordering. I only know because we used to got here a lot and I would read the sign while I waited out of sheer boredom. It certainly doesn't stand out though so I'm sure lots of people miss it.

    I'm not deaf, but I was mobility disabled for a couple of years. I had all of my food delivered for 6 months and then when I could finally get out (which was a big challenge) I used curbside pick up. The drive through lines can be very long, and I could not sit in the car for a long time, because I might wet or poop myself. Found that out the hard way.
    I use the McDonald's phone app to pre-order my food and then get it at the curbside pick up in 5minutes or less. Many other FF places have something similar.

The employee come out to me and I point on menu sign for order. It good accessible and friendly

    I agree there should be kiosks for accessibility in drive thru. I am not hearing impaired, and I see value in it. I work in the food service industry but not fast food and I've had a few deaf customers come in and it was always handled by pen and paper. What should happen though that would be even greater benefit, having ASL in schools as a foreign language alternative that will count toward the prerequisite for college admissions. I surely didn't do anything with my years of French classes, that's for sure.

    There is numerous of Sonic that have drive-thru you can use. As of modern technology, there is more and more of mobile ordering. So Sonic do have the Sonic app to order then pull up to stall. When you get there, use mobile to inform which stall then they will come out to you with food.

    Our sonic has a sign and a special parking space and it says honk if you need assistance. Once, I lost my voice and stopped by... couldn't order on app as i usually do for whatever reason (I love all the apps now,so easy) so I honked... multiple times over 5 minutes. There were maybe 2 other cars. They are kind of the worst when it comes to assistance.

    As a person that has worked at McDonald's before for 6 years, my guess is that they definitely got confused because you pulled up to the window, meaning, in the meantime someone else beside ordered ice-cream and they got all confused because your order was probably put in after as they often have more than one person taking orders. But it's not your fault, it's theirs for poor communication, the guy at the windows should've informed the others that there was a car that went directly to the window because less experienced workers don't always double wich order is wich

    I have a relatively mild hearing loss and also a mild speech problem because of it, I always use the mobile app so the restaurant can understand me. If they don’t have an app I’m not going. My mom made fun of me saying that fast food apps are pointless, yeah pointless if you don’t have communication barriers like Deaf or non native English speaker.

    I noticed at Sonic you didnt even ask for help. The workers cannot tell youre deaf from the car hop lanes. You need to go through drive thru. If you park at a car hop and wait there without requesting assistance they will assume you are deciding what you want to order. Next time at Sonic go thru drive thru or walk to front counter. You get 0 out of 5 stars for YOUR behavior at Sonic. You should know better. You get a dislike from me good sir. You looked around at screen but didnt even press the button to ask for help. There is an assistance button on the carhop menus. You clearly werent looking good enough to see it, but you also unfairly judged sonic.
