- Today's Pick of the Day is pure 1959 rock and roll excellence, a Gibson Les Paul Standard by the name of "Son of the Preacher Man" and a same year Fender High Powered Tweed Twin amp! Many of you will recognize this guitar not just from previous videos, but from its previous owner's performances and incredible collection! This guitar embodies everything you've heard about the "Burst" in sound and feel, and its top has a fairly unique look for these holy-grail guitars. Paired up with one of the finest Fender amps ever made - the tweed 1959 Twin in high-power flavor... you've got the coolest combination of guitar and amp that one could hope for. Trevor dives into the details on these two pieces before handing them off to our friend Aaron Hiebert for the demo!

(The amp just came into the shop so we'll have it on our site as soon as possible!)
Music: The Hollers "Zeb" (Instrumental) - Hudba
Bought a guitar off that wall behind Aaron just last week. I've hardly put it down since. Guitar stores can be overwhelming, and this one is the most overwhelming one I've ever been to. Just so much there. But everyone was so chill and cool about everything that I couldn't help buying a guitar for 4x what I'd planned to spend that day. And haven't regretted it for a second.
Playing starts at 5:30
Had a nice visit to the shop a few days ago. Thanks for the hospitality.
Absolute dream guitar. This specific one.
Quel son!!!une belle année 1959 le plaisir de jouer avec un instrument pareil 😛
Such a wonderfull guitar
Gorgeous rosewood board.great sounds
The ‘59 combo sounds exactly what an electric guitar should sound like
Well played!
Excellent !!!
Aaron is the correct guy to play these.
As good as it gets but sorry, I could never make it sound that good. And I would rather leave my estate to my wife and kids than a used guitar. We have reached strange times when a used guitar has an asking price approaching 7 figures. And no, it is not the same as a Stradivarius violin. World of difference. Hope whoever buys it is happy; I am happy to just hear it being on played. Thanks for sharing
Shalom Seltzer not trying to be argumentative and I’m genuinely asking your thoughts. What makes it so different from a stradivarius?
Fair question. The better question is why a Strad or Amati is more like an early Benedetto or Early D’Aquisto? That is the product of a small one man or small teaching shop. The LPs were always mass produced. In some cases, with poor quality control. There were decades past when no one wanted them and you could pick them up in pawn shops for pennies. From historical perspective we know certain violins are special and not reproducible. Can you say the same thing about LPs? Even from 59 there are ‘dogs’. Pity your 401 k if you buy one of them
Also as older guitarists pass on I don’t think the overall demand for LP as an investment will continue to rise. Just fewer people out there who want to sound like Jimmy Page or Mike Bloomfield or Peter Green. Mention any of those names to most Milennials and you get a blank stare. It is sheer numbers and they won’t be there in the future. Just my opinion and you are entitled to disagree
Shalom Seltzer There will always be a market. Check out Norms videos to see how many young blues and rock phenoms there are coming up right now. These are the Stradivarius of electric guitars. Gibson can’t replicate the amazing tones these produce no matter what they try. Music is alive and well in the youth my man. It’ll be ok.👌
It's exactly like a strad. Original version of the peak design of a particular instrument....
I think Fender amps sound better with celestions, speacially the tweeds. That is what Joe and Keith do. Great video, btw!
Ninja Elétrico I have an old Gibson with a celestion, boy it sings
Well the Marshall sounded great with Celestions and it was just a Fender tweed Bassman copy
Aaron, Awesome playing‼️
perfect
You can go out and have a bite to eat, and that guitar will still be playing ...
Cool AF!
Thats nice.
$45,000 for a High Powered '59 Tweed Twin in excellent condition? Is this where the vintage Fender amp market is going? That's insanity.
rare piece of history
Vinage instruments have been unobtainum for a while now. I'm talking about pre CBS Fender stuff, 50's Gibson electrics, prewar Gibson and Martin acoustics. Priced way beyond most player's financial abilities.
@@jegr3398 If they weren't, they'd all go to Hell in a handbasket. They'd all be ragged and worn in no time, with no way to appreciate them in original condition or in the hands of responsible careful players
That really is a magical combination? Alnico’s have an amazing top end, mid breakup, but I have to say I enjoy the tighter Ceramic Sound better?
Awesome video. I thought Joe played with the bridge topwrapped though? I don't think I've ever seen him with one that wasn't.
Qstick333 I guess he likes it like that. You won’t hear much of a difference in sound though.
mats andersson makes a massive difference in the feel of the guitar though.
Yeah he did
I’m curious about the bridge, I thought it featured a classic abr1 system bridge with the 2 studs screwed directly in the wood! Interesting
It’s just an extra set of thumbwheels, stops the post from leaning / bending
Sounds like my Epiphone SL plugged into my Line 6.
Tyler W nice try...but no
Meastro Fuzz I kid I kid. Of course I’ll never get to play one, let alone OWN one. I’ve got a Junior from 1960 and it rocks enough for me. 🤘🏻
Tyler W now thats nice, rock on dude
Meastro Fuzz Thanks! Just got it last week and i can’t stop playing it... or thinking about it for that matter 😅
Maybe a bit hard on it, but it sure doesn't sound to me like 345 grand…
Why would Joe B. part with something this gorgeous!!?
Dude, just needs to pay some bills...🤗🤣😜
He buys & sells ‘em periodically. Less interested in owning ‘em than in playing lotsa different ones.
Nick S I’m guessing his dozen, or so, other bursts will keep him from getting too lonely.
He has a bunch of them. It’s probably becomes a real pain to have to protect and maintain so many valuable instruments.
I’ll take “Things people take way too seriously” for 800, Alex!
Sounds good 🤷🏼♂️
59 Fender Tweed Bassman is the best
Somebody did a damn fine refret on that thing.....didn’t even knick the binding one bit. I wonder if that was someone at emerald city music....???
Chances are if Joe B owned it at the time of the refret it was Joe Glazier
Great guitar poopie anp, ive heard way better tweed hp twins.
Hey If it was owned by JB its sure to have been tampered with
he admits it on NRG swapping out broken parts like jack plates
who knows maybe pick ups also who knows!!
joe didnt even own this one for that long. he did one tour with it.
Nice. Needs a Marshall though....
How did it get it's name?
Jay Van Orsdol Joe B is a bit eccentric
They farted in the case before shipping it 👍🏻
Cashy Smashy Bahahahah ❤️
How Much?
Yes.
Love it but way out of my pay grade.
creamy and delicious! yummm!
With all the respect, not the best sounding ‘Burst I’ve ever heard. And another proof that every guitar is a story per se
that's why Joe sold it :D :D
Why is Joe getting rid of it?
nice. hate to see Joe B give this up, but climates better tnan 10 years ago.
Premium merchandise because of previous owner.... Shwweet Geetar... Like getting a mortgage for most working folk ...😵
Well.....my 59R thru my Fuchs ODSII sounds better ( IMO) total on that package was a little under 8k as opposed to uh.....whatever that combination cost. I know, ouch. Lol
Cool story bro!
Fred Bloggs ya know, sometimes ya gotta speak up. Too many people will rush off to spend waaay past their budgets and there’s no way back that isn’t generally a bad road financial wise. ie; reselling
@@SteveSchuffert Some people would say that about your nearly 8k rig, so think on Stevo...
And you thinking it's better is your opinion, and only yours.
You could always put up a video of you proving me wrong anytime you like.
As I said, cool story bro!
I've been playing 32 years and have a few Gibson Les Paul's. My favourite is a 1990 standard plugged into my Marshall Stack it would eat this for breakfast lol I woudnt swap the tone from this is mediocre hence why Joe moved it on.
Its old load of bllx about old ones sound better.
Ohh cool man, no need to bragg though...
🤡
Amp sounds too lose
Or the string action is too loose
I hate to be negative but that’s not the best tone I’ve heard from a Les Paul, vintage or modern. There’s none of that ‘honk’ I like to hear, especially going through a tweed amp.
A lot has been changed on that amp. Sounds way too modern, stiff, choked, dry, cold, etc... The other Twin you had was awesome
Who gives '59 Les Pauls these dorky nicknames?
How many kidneys?
It's 345k. Kidney on a black market is I think round 50k so..
@@nikolastanic2999 D'oh!
I'm going to break it fucking down for all poseurs and wannabees. A guitar is a vehicle, nothing more. An amplifier is a way to voice your mode of transportation. How old the wood or pick-ups may be are not relevant. Here it is KIDDIES... Does it INSPIRE you? Does it make you want to PLAY?! If it does, there isn't a SINGLE more important guitar on the planet than the one you are holding RIGHT NOW!
And there it is... Music comes from YOU, not the instrument.
Gary Moore, Terry Kath, Yngwie Malmsteen... Hand them a 1975 Harmony and they will make music with it!
Wood, Steel, Glass, Heart. The only known ingredients needed to move a person from one plane, to another.
We lost Eddie VanHalen, Gary Moore, Phillip Lynott, Jimi Fucking Hendrix, Stevie Ray ATOMIC BOMB Vaughn. What have we done since then?
The hands kids, it's the hands..... I love you all
A lot of jealousy on CZcams, people are so miserable.
It's a second hand Les Paul, not the " holy grail" that you be a Gibson Moderne.
Just what I need s little coffee shop protester millennial telling me all about rock n roll and guitars 😂😂😂😂👎🏻
I know exactly what you need...
Mr Smash. Your wisdom shines - like the musty, jizz-stained sheets adorning your mattress. On the floor. Ooooo, you sure shine, brother.
I've never seen a millennial that would protest a coffee shop! You were WAY off with that one.
59 burst just an overrated guitars
They're all 100% overrated... until you play a really good one, yourself.
sounds horrible
