San Diego County animal shelters in state of emergency, over capacity

- Animal shelters and organizations across San Diego County are under a state of emergency, saying they're having a difficult time caring for an influx of animals.
The situation is so serious, the region’s zero euthanasia rate is now at risk.
"This is pretty much new territory. We have never seen numbers like this. This is testing that promise in all the worst ways,” said San Diego Humane Society President and CEO Gary Weitzman.
Weitzman told CBS 8 while they're not at the point of euthanasia, it has been discussed and may be something other shelters and organizations will have to consider doing.

🐱🐶 Spaying/neutering is usually offset by vouchers and only cost $50-$100 in Hawai'i, sometimes even free for feral cats through great nonprofits like *CatFriendsHI*
Another huge problem that the fraudulent Gary Weitzman will not address is amount of infighting among paid staff and volunteers at most of the shelters in the county. Everyone considers themself an expert and no one is willing to listen or to compromise on anything. They set far too many restrictions that are arbitrary and unreasonable on potential new pet owners and their hours of operation are similar to banker's hours. Then everyone is frustrated that nothing gets done and they wonder why no pets are adopted.

Maybe apartments shouldn’t charge a $50 pet rent…
Maybe people should not own pets when they don't have the right or the means to do so. People need to choose what is most important to them....a roof over their heads or a pet. If you don't own the place where you live then you don't call the shots, plain and simple.

🙄 1) Disgusting that irresponsible people are always the biggest problem. 2)Make spaying/neutering pets a law! 3) If people can afford $50-$100 recurring monthly cell phone bill but can't allocate that same amount 1 time for a pet, they really shouldn't be allowed to have pets.
Local vets show volunteer their services to local animal shelters in need.

🐶🐱 It might, to help charities recuperate their cost of care for animals. But it generally shouldn't be that much.
All this have to do is because The lack of paid people are able to was there to pay for the rent and other things but they're not able to care for animals the crisis is actually affecting us as well because of how much everything is expensive even the food
