Valby of Florida led for most of the race but had to settle for second place behind Katelyn Tuohy. Full 2022 NCAA XC coverage here: www.letsrun.com/events/2022/1...
25-30 miles a week??? That is insane for the level she is running at great for her for finding the balance between staying healthy while being incredibly fit
She ran a great race and pushed the whole field to a super fast race. Love her straightforward answers and how she is proud of her effort. There is nothing to regret or be disappointed about with that kind of performance. She's tough and talented and it will be exciting to see what she can accomplish going forward.
Parker is a phenomenal raw talent. Imagine how good she can be if she learns what tangents are and how to run them, studies the course finish to know the difference between 200 meters and 800 meters, does some hill training, and develops a kick.
I just think these runners show so much patience with some of the questions that aren’t really questions but opinions Maturity and intelligence and directness.
That was close.! 3 seconds over 6 kms is nothing.! Parker ran like a champ.! She kept the pace up to the end. She could have won this by 3 seconds as well.!
Running high mileage can definitely be counter productive for some runners, leading to stress fractures and other injuries and overall burnout (especially when you are in college).
Parker lost because the course is nasty. The hills are for real and it does require different training. The talent is for real with these ladies so watch out …
I hate that they promoted this the way they did and then ask what happened why didn't you win, Parker is a elite runner but katlyn is a rare once in a generation type runner.
Parker Valby is in her second year of collegiate running, she is at the outset of her running carrier, and as good as she is now, barring injury, she will improve immensely over the next couple of years.
I'm 20 and I don't know what the tangents are. OMG I get it - IF she's just not understanding the people using specific xc or running lingo instead of just teaching her the idea of 'shortest distance'.... but otherwise..
The Valby-Touhuy competition makes both runners more exciting. They push each other in every race and every race is a different day. No one knows what will happen until it's over. Exciting 😊
Parker did really well, she has so much potential and clearly is a great runner. Races aren’t just about being a good runner, you have to be a good racer too. I don’t think she’s been taught enough about racing which is holding her back.
Great personality, sportsmanship, attitude, and athlete. Who knows what her potential was in this race were it not for missing some tangents, fighting the hills, the extreme wind chill, and delay to begin her kick well before the final turn. With more training, she should increase her mileage, and optimize some of the key tactical and mechanical strengths needed to see this potential.
The good thing is there’s lots of room for improvement. Learn the tangents. Might’ve been the difference between 2nd place and winning. Congrats! You have a great future and I’m excited to watch you succeed👍
Hi Im in college and don't know what a Tangent is..... Good grief, rotten coaching, have her run 50 yards behind someone for a while and have the person in front run like she did and have her figure out the best way to make up distance. Without increasing her pace.
Too bad she and Tuohy weren't both wearing GPS watches and we could see the difference. And her not knowing the finish turn was only 200m out....no words.
I wanted both of them to win.💔. If Valby wants to get stronger she should do more interval training. She allso needs the be racing and competing with a higher level of athletes .
Finally. So glad someone asked her about tangents. She may have won with knowing this basic running strat. Know your finish and where you want to kick ahead of time as well.
Strengthen the chest and shoulders, bring in the elbows, raise the hands, chin forward. In training…At first one step back to see two steps forward. She is the better runner
OK Katelyn is one of my 2 favorite runners of all time but parker has not been given the credit she deserves.they beat that coarse record by 30 seconds.who set that pace .parker valby.maybe Katelyn could have set a higher pace but she didnt.listening to parkers post race interview you wonder if her coach has showed up even once.this young woman with a proper coach could achieve great things.your coach should have explained the coarse better. I just followed the cart shows your coaches weakness.you ran a fantastic race and you are a tremendous runner Best wishes to you
I can't image how annoying these interviews are for athletes - "What were you thinking when Katlyn passed you?" Parker: "Ahh, thinking how I knew some stupid stooge would ask me that question." Sean Evens needs to teach a class on "How to script questions in an interview" in broadcasting 101.
@jp05598 Never irrelevent when it comes to a female. I expect that every guy in the University of Florida, who is breathing, is after her and rightly so.
I did not know what "running the tangents" meant either but I knew she was not doing it as I commented on the race video earlier that a lot of them were not "taking the inside on the curves" but this was not a close enough race to matter so she has time to work that out.
Don't know what tangents are? Don't know how to run them? Misjudged where the finish was? Those are all skills your coach should be teaching you and practicing for races.. WTF????
Only worry for me is, with that she is doing extra low miles I fear this might mean there is nothing anaerobic happening in her training, I would definitely be incorporating 200 mt rep sets walk around recovery to help her intensify leg cadence. This would also spin off improvement in her longer rep training (aerobic volume stuff) one improves the other so to speak. Wonderful run that provided a most entertaining race, congrats Parker, with many victories ahead no question.
Don’t know what tangents are thought the finish was 800 not 200, to cold to hilly, sounds like a lot of excuses. KT gave her a 12second lead and still beat her slowing down. If what she said was true she needs to change her coach.
Katelyn has beaten Parker 3 times. 3 out of 3. Speaks for itself. Parker answered the questions she was asked. She said she went out fast because Katelyn could outkick her. She showed respect. It is also worth noting that Katelyn herself realized that Parker is for real when in an interview she said she had some concern when Parker seemed to have gotten too far away. And as others have already commented Parker's running out front probably pulled many to times below the previous course record. I think it is fair to say that they will bring out the best in each other over the next few years.
Parker Valby seems direct, honest, and really nice/sweet. And of course, a phenomenal runner with an exciting future.
25-30 miles a week??? That is insane for the level she is running at great for her for finding the balance between staying healthy while being incredibly fit
That doesn't tell the whole picture cos she does loads of cross training. So hours spent training will be similar to her peers still
No excuses needed - they are both phenomenal runners!!
What a great race, Parker Valby. You're awesome.
She ran from the front all season. Today wasn't any different. Well done Parker. Well done.
She did great and Valby's time is still world class, she should be very proud of her run! Her future is bright!
Keep on doing what you're doing and working on that kick. You've got champion written all over you.
She went for it - what more can you ask for.
She ran great! Took a chance by going out so hard, but knew she had to. What a race!!

Great interview Parker. God bless, looking forward to track season
Not used to the hills, and cold... can’t wait for the rematch !!
Parker’s future is bright! She’s a talent and incredibly honest in her interviews. Love this young athlete! I’m a fan for life!
It's going to be fun watching her and Katelyn competing, they are both great runners!
Parker is a phenomenal raw talent. Imagine how good she can be if she learns what tangents are and how to run them, studies the course finish to know the difference between 200 meters and 800 meters, does some hill training, and develops a kick.
😅
Lol
Parkers early kick was the reason they both beat the course record!
Ran her best race.... fun and exciting, something to build upon. Nice~
I just think these runners show so much patience with some of the questions that aren’t really questions but opinions Maturity and intelligence and directness.
Great questions, great answers, very adult, very good interview.
Classy lady
Great job! You are absolutely fabulous runner
What an impressive young women.U of F must be very proud of her.
Great Race Parker, keep the great job.
She is super star and very beautiful and so talented. Godness.
Parker Valby be star!!!
Parker Valby has that 'David Rudisha, catch me if you can, mindset. A great asset in the running world.
Parker Valby is the best runner and should have won. Parker's been hurt for a long time.
That was close.! 3 seconds over 6 kms is nothing.!
Parker ran like a champ.!
She kept the pace up to the end.
She could have won this by 3 seconds as well.!
They all broke the course record because they had to chase Parker.
Good luck to this gracious young lady :)
Running high mileage can definitely be counter productive for some runners, leading to stress fractures and other injuries and overall burnout (especially when you are in college).
Very brave race the way she attacked early and held so strongly. It took a truly great runner to catch her. Parker is also beautiful if I might add.
Parker lost because the course is nasty. The hills are for real and it does require different training. The talent is for real with these ladies so watch out …
She will be a monster on the track. Sub-15:00 here we come!
@@terraflow__bryanburdo4547 and so will Tuohy
@@stephenkennedy3145 yep.Parker will be be personal rabbit, again.
I hate that they promoted this the way they did and then ask what happened why didn't you win, Parker is a elite runner but katlyn is a rare once in a generation type runner.
I will say it was televised and drew a lot of viewers so what do I know
Congrats Parker 👏
She is lovely with a great attitude. When you can edify the one who beat you, you are a very special person and Parker is that person.
Parker Valby is in her second year of collegiate running, she is at the outset of her running carrier, and as good as she is now, barring injury, she will improve immensely over the next couple of years.
Way to run with guts.
I'm 20 and I don't know what the tangents are. OMG
I get it - IF she's just not understanding the people using specific xc or running lingo instead of just teaching her the idea of 'shortest distance'.... but otherwise..
If you ain't first.... you might still be superb
The Valby-Touhuy competition makes both runners more exciting. They push each other in every race and every race is a different day. No one knows what will happen until it's over. Exciting 😊
Not knowing the tangents... interesting Chris

Humble
Great run. Just wasn’t her day to be first. Very good runner very smooth 🇺🇸
She is so pretty

Not knowing the tangents, not training hills and not knowing the finish. Poor planning or just over exuberance? An excellent race however.
The good thing is there’s lots of room for improvement. Learn the tangents. Might’ve been the difference between 2nd place and winning. Congrats! You have a great future and I’m excited to watch you succeed👍

Gutsy performance, tip my hat to her. Completely irrelevant but she is DROP DEAD GORGEOUS! 😍😍😍

Great runner, but not a great racer

Sour grapes. Katelyn is just better.

Sour grapes? There was zero sour in that interview. In contrary, a lot of respect for Tuohy.
