    I can't tell you how great it is to see someone who really knows what he's on about in this area. This is exactly how I was taught to do snatch strap recovery.
    The amount of gung ho cowboys out there doing everything so wrong and dangerously is scary... Not using recovery dampers with bystanders standing right beside the vehicles or between them, using tow balls, not using bow shackles, just using makeshift tow ropes with no elasticity, etc...

    Thanks to this video, I was prepared and confident when recovering my mate a couple of days ago, whose car was about to be swallowed by the ocean. I had all the gear needed, and rescued him safely on the first attempt. Thanks Ronny 🙂

    Great demonstraion! I'm using tow strap from Miolle and i definitely recommend this one. I pulled a guy's truck, trailer and boat out of the water because he didn't have 4wd and no problem with the towstraps , very durable and easy hook up.

    Thank you for all of these videos. I am new to four-wheeling (I got a Jeep Rubicon after years of driving sports cars), and there's a bit of a learning curve. Learning how to properly use a snatch strap was one of my questions. The snatch strap was one of the first bits of kit I purchased after getting the Jeep, and while I don't do much serious off-road driving myself (yet), I expect I'll need my strap and shackles to help other motorists this winter here in northern Canada. Great videos. Very educational. Thank you for sharing your valuable experience.

      Hi Ronny . love your vids so much great information . could I please get your opinion on this . you mention in a few vids to never ever use your tow ball for recovery but you offer a square recovery insert shackle point instead of towball. so is it just the tow ball it self that is no good . so I don't have a square removable Tomball. so if I took the bolt off n took the tow ball out I could just shackle to the hole where towball goes through. u get my thinking . cause if that insert is OK then the actual tow bar framing is OK to use for recovery I'm thinking . I hope u understand please reply . thanks mate

      Yep, the tow bar can handle it but the tow ball itself can snap - it's not rated for the load. Swapping the ball for a rated shackle would be safer, just remember to use a dampener on either end and fill the pockets of the dampener with some weight to keep it on the ground if something does let go (looks like Ronny forgot to add weight to the dampeners in this video, but other than that he's done it perfectly).

    Finally a video that supported my logical thinking. It made absolutely no sense to me whatsoever how so many people only use one dampener. Especially in the middle without determining whose recovery point is going to be the weakest.

    You got my sub Ronny. I've been off road-ing as long as I've been driving (25 years) and I thought I knew it all. Never knew about strap dampers... what a great tool. If the strap or other piece does fail.. these will help direct them to the ground quickly... awesome! Getting some. Everything else is spot on and the way I've been doing it. Nice Cruiser btw. TOYOTA!!

    A great video, remember Safety is paramount in these situations, I am very pleased you mentioned not placing a snatch strap over the Tow ball, the amount of people who still do not know this is staggering, might pay to mention the SWL for the D Shackles being 4.6t, very informative and easy to follow...now subscribed.

    Great video! Definitely investing in some Snatch straps. I was stuck in some sticky mud and let someone else attach a regular tow strap to my truck. And they hooked it up all wrong and almost pulled off my bumper. Which my recovery points were attached to the bumper bracket. A snatch strap would have helped a lot more. And better recovery points which I'm going to fab up soon. And I have a new rule, only I attach straps to my truck. Keep up the great videos, they are quite helpful!

    I do use different towing way that would not load much weight on the transmission and differential shift gears. This way is to tie up the strap in both cars. Then back up closer to the stuck car so you can have enough strap lengthy tow. The last step is to hit the gas pedal on a good speed that could tow out the stuck car. Before the strap is getting tighten, take out you foot from the pedal so there will be no much load on the gears. I hope that is good for off roaders

    I have seen many people suggest just using the pin but nobody has mentioned that you should really get a grinder out and chamfer the edges of the receiver and polish it up a bit so there will be less likelihood of the strap being cut.

    Good video. One thing I learned in Rope Rescue SAR, however, is that a running rope abrading on another rope or strap is not permissible as it can potentially saw through by friction. Instead of running that rope through the tow strap loop directly I would put a shackle or something in between. Then you don’t have fabric on fabric friction.

    Hi Ronny great videos could you please explain why the recovery vehicle is in 1st low and the vehicle getting recovered is in 2nd low.
    I watch a video just before and they said the other way around. Thanks

      It's because towing vehicle HAS traction so 1st low will give the most PULL. Stuck vehicle in 2nd low because you want to "help" itself out and put less stress on the recovery vehicle. 1 low will just spin the tires and keep her stuck, counter productive.

    great video. I think you should use 2 dapeners also. Only other thing I can think is to tell people not to use a chain especially to jerk.

    I agree that tot balls are not for shock loads, but they are not mostly for vertical loads. When pulling up grades they do take the whole weight of the trailer. I see what you mean though that they equal death especially the lighter ones, personally I have used one that is rated for over 12,000lbs in a situation where I didn't necessarily know better and it worked fine although now that I know this I will definitely just use the pin.

    Great video, MATE ! I'd like the return of the old-fashioned crank-handle for starting, especially off-road. Why? An automatic with a flat battery could be started. Also, when a manual has a flat battery stuck in soft sand or on a boulder field, it'd be very difficult or or even impossible to push-start it. In low-ratio, it can also be used to hand-winch inch by inch, when a very delicate manoeuvre is required. My main off-road experience was gained driving a Russian military jeep - GAZ 69, in Ethiopia, especially in the Danakil Desert, where there are grotesque lava fields, dunes, salt marsh, boulder fields, deep erosion fissures, you name it, all with temps up to 50 degrees and at down to 180m below sea level. This desert was a notorious leaf-spring-and-half-shaft breaker for the Land Rovers of the time - 1976.

    I keep two of them 8 ton nylon snatch straps with me for redundancy when driving on the beach. I've never had any problems pulling anyone out with a strap breaking. You sure don't want to be getting rough with another person's vehicle, and you don't want to put another at risk of getting hurt. These guys down under have their act together.

    If both vehicles have their own snatch strap, they should also have at least two dampeners each. Therefore it makes simple sense to put all four dampeners on the recovery strap being used.

    How do you avoid stalling if you’re the vehicle pulling? Take the car out of gear before the rope pulls back or pushing the clutch in?

    I'm educating myself for more off road and an around Oz trip, so that it's not a total disaster, we all have fun and get home safe.
    A question please - What's your opinion guys, snatch strap or maxtrax?
    Maxtrax seem so quick and easy and you can do it solo. So I'm wondering when you'd use the snatch strap option.

      +Bill Blinky they both have their purposes and place, I'd suggest getting the recovery boards first as you can use them with a solo vehicle. Snatch Straps require two vehicles...
      Snatch straps are cheap for what they can do so get both if possible.

    The shackle pin needs to be fully set the old practice of backing off pin is wrong and reduces wll of the shakle

    I know a lot of people that could use this video... I know too many people who just pull with the bare strap. No dampers and no proper recovery points.

    Very informative video. Well done. I have a question regarding the use of a hitch in recovery. I have seen many people use them and then many more suggest they aren't to be used in recovery, they are strictly for towing. Can you elaborate more on that please?

      They would be referring to 'the tow ball' which you should never ever use for recovery! The tow ball needs to be removed completely. Then you could use the pin with a rated strap OR buy a Reece style recovery point usually around the $80 AUD

    Please try the new kinetic recovery ropes. You'll love them. Stretch much more, like 30%+, rather than 10% with a strap. 1-1/2"' kinetic rope good for 74,000 pounds. Bubba Rope is one brand. Great, honest mice people to deal with.👍🏆
    Soft Shackles are a new thing, to. Much less dangerous than steel shackles and stronger. Gator Jaws are a brand.
