I didn't realize you could just turn a non-profit into a for-profit with so little consequence.
u can't, a non-profit doesn't have shares or owned by anyone, it said to be owned by boards members but owning in this respect is more about managing, those board members can't make money from being a board member or do stuff that conflict with their interest.
a non-profit can sell assets to a for-profit but not the operation.
open AI isn't really selling asset it being shadow controlled by one company that what open AI selling to microsoft which is illegal.
shit like that is hard to prove in court but should be very clear to anyone that its illegal regardless if they gonna be caught or not

"As a partner, I think we deserve to be consulted on big decisions, It is not a hands-off. We are in there. We are below them, above them, and around them. It is a joint project."
Look up the interview of him by Kara Swisher. He said it during the whole Altman firing debacle. Pretty much admitting that Microsoft have serious influence on OpenAI.
@@andrewtran9870 Well, it's part of the lawsuit now
It looks like the quote came from Nadella's interview for the November 20, 2023 episode of the _On With Kara Swisher_ podcast. Crazy.
That Nadella quote is straight up insane
*Nutella quote
That's because Open AI is not using any kind of revolutionary technology. All its advances are from Google's open source research such as Tensorflow and NLTK.
What IS different though is the scale and investment poured into training GPT and the amount of time spent into refining the responses.
So when Microsoft's CEO says that they have the employees, the tech, the IP, he means that Microsoft has just as much capability as OpenAi and can ditch OpenAi if ever they decide to betray Microsoft.
What Microsoft Doesn't have is the vast infrastructure to host the OpenAi servers who continue to operate at a loss, or the 5 trillion token dataset that was painstakingly compiled by real humans.
"We're above them, below them & around them"
That's some metal shit

(I guess its ironic that i then comment under this video :D)
All the issues and discussion about AI as a whole aside, this honestly has been my biggest issue with OpenAI: that despite keeping the name, the company and software doesn’t seem to be “Open-Source” anymore. Although according to this video it seems to be a bit more complicated and nuanced then just “AI company go from Open-Source/Non-Profit to Closed-Source/For-Profit”, that doesn’t mean it still is annoying or at least confusing when your company name AND product name literally implies that Open-Source is your main goal! At least change the name. But since this is AI we’re talking about, the name is pretty small potatoes compared to everything else that needs addressing!
Openwashing...
It's not any more nuanced, anything big they do is hidden behind their walls, anything not is still censored in favor of their political leaning to the extreme.
@@amentco8445 You need to spend more time reading things online. There's no censoring, it just uses English the way people do from all over the world - and anywhere on the face of the planet, outside the states, the things yall consider to be 'alternate opinions' are known to be crazy falsehoods or misrepresentations.

I'm absolutely certain they'll return to their original and prescribed mission now /s. Surely the USA just accidentally overlooked what was happening.
I remember reading that the non profit part is the database collection done offshore in non-profit ways for the countries hosting that databases. But the front end which uses the databases is for-profit. So it was a loophole to avoid copy right infringement and claim no wrong doing. It was a shady gray area.

another key issue if I get this right is that MS doesn't have the license for AGI so the incentives are there to influence OpenAI to never claim any product as such
What? A license for AGI? Never heard of anything like that, and doesn't sound very plausible to me. Where did you get this idea from?
@@technolus5742 read up on the lawsuit and the deal between OpenAI and MS
Microsoft's partnership with OpenAI gives Microsoft exclusive rights to all models created by OpenAI but limited to non-AGI. If OpenAI achieve AGI, Microsoft's partnership clause does not give them rights over it.
@@technolus5742 -- It's a copyright thing, not a general permit kind of thing. Think "creative commons license", not "driver's license".
@@mvmlego1212 That makes perfect sense, thanks
There is also the argument that OpenAI will not be able to make those technologies without all the money for compute which I don't know if is true.
Research makes no money yet does so much for the world. It's the curse in health care and als in Artificial Intelligence.
They could very easily organize a committee of major tech companies that stand to gain from progress in AI, where no one has overwhelming power and everyone is interested in funding the coordinated research effort that now would no longer have to skip alignment to beat others to market.
The tricky - but not unusual - part of this would be ensuring that the coordinated effort is more appealing than individual ventures.
@@tacticalassaultanteater9678no, why must big corps want to fund something they don’t control. It’s a hard sell. If openai asking users (who literally benefits from their product) to pay is to too close, why would big corp even do that?
Yeah, computational of AI require so much resource, i agree with you
It likely is, AI guzzles electricity like nothing else. Running and training the latest models requires a shit ton of money. Without Microsoft, they wouldn't have come so far. But the price of this progress means that Microsoft will control AGI and we get comic-book-villain-esque speeches from Nadella
high quality amazing and informing i want more content like this!
hi, there!
you use AI or real person for Voice Over?
Here's me waiting for someone at OpenAI to release all the IP and all models in a torrent somewhere on 4chan which would make the company next to worthless instantly
Probably no one except the elite at OpenAI has access to the complete database.
that's... not how it works at all
You would still need tons of computing power to run all of this. VRAM requirements would be insane for stuff like GPT-4 and beyond.
Just get the code and data. Community will work on the issue of usage after that
As long as they can sue your ass out of existence, their IP is safe. And Microsoft can sure as hell sue your ass out of existence if they so desire (even if you did not in fact steal anything from them, but it happened the other way around).
Calling GPT the mythical AGI is really hard to sell. Yes, it is versatile and somewhat flexible, but that's about it. No matter how you look at it, it's just autocomplete. In a sense, the image AI we've seen is far more "imaginative" and GI than GPT. It is just a really bad swiss army knife that sometimes has an actual knife that some times works but always has a dull blade.
Came to the comments section to write pretty much this ^
GPT is very impressive, but calling it AGI is silly
There is no agreed upon definition of AGI...yet. Perhaps this lawsuit will get us a legal definition.
I don't think it's that hard of a sell. After all, as opposed to like all the AI systems before it, it can do a bajillion different things, without having been optimized for the specific purpose of any one of them specifically.
In that sense, just about every skill it has is due to its generalness, not how its been handcrafted for some specific purpose.
In that sense, it's a general purpose tool - or intelligence if you will and it's definitely artificial.
If nothing else, this lawsuit might force for there to become a universally recognized definition for AGI.
Sora is also just autocomplete, just for space-time-color tokens instead. It just predicts the state in about 30 ms for a position in a scene. I don't really know how you'd find it more general. It doesn't seem to be capable of doing anywhere near as many different useful things as GPT-4.
One might argue that animals are complex auto-complete machines with goals to survive and reproduce.
You can also extend this to human beings if stretching the definition of 'auto complete'
Having general intelligence doesn't necessarily mean you have an agenda or free will.
@@Alice_FumoJust throwing in my opinion on what could be considered "general": if I can tell a system the rules of a game/sport/problem space (in English), and it can reliably play/comment on/solve problems without other previous training data on the subject, that's truly general (possibly after asking questions, since there could be holes in my explanation). I remember seeing GPT (can't remember the version) try to play Chess, and it constantly tried to play illegal moves, despite having seen many games in its training data. I think the "it's just auto complete" statement captures this well, there's a difference between giving the statistically most likely next token in a sequence, and actually understanding what you're doing.
That Bon Jovi line hit hard.
I love ❤these takes! Hilarious 😂 but spot on!
The ultimate question is:
Does Elon use the word "donate" and "pledge" interchangeably?
Dude donated 42 billion for the cause just to make Tesla cover it with interest within one year.
Bro is yapping like he doesnt own Grok , which is also not open
A small correction on the "refused stake" part. It is true that he "donated" a lot of money and had committed to donating more - on the condition that *he* becomes CEO. The board refused, so he withdrew his funds.
There ain't no one working for the sake of humanity there, just different greedy bastards looking after their interests.
EDIT:
In addition, Microsoft has a lot of influence since they've also donated a metric crap ton of resources in the form of their cloud infrastructure. The part about Microsoft being all around OpenAI might be in reference to them expressing a lot of interest in acquiring the company in the past along with the current talent that works there. After Altman got yeeted off the board for a lil bit Microsoft *did* want all of the employees part of his faction to jump ship.
Sounds like something Elon would do lol
I don't think he "withdrew" his funds. Else he would have no grounds to sue
