For those who haven't watched this episode they weren't for ICBM but space craft, which is even cooler imo, and no, you can't make them in your garage because the metal used is super hard (titanium iirc)
Its quite interesting the russians were the only ones that had the technical knowledge, high grade titanium and people that were able to produce this at that time. Russia is still a very good place to get high grade titanium stuff made on the cheaper end. A work friend of mine has his bike frame made out if titanium in russia, it was made by some 70 year olds that used to work in titanium production in russia. And it was like 80% cheaper as all other possible manufacturers P.S.: Did those keys work by beeing the only ones beeing able to tolerate the torgue to turn them without breaking and that was the security feature ? I could remember that wrong though
