I love my lb7, owned it since 2001. Bought it when I graduated h.s. Only one set of injectors. Done by dealer under warranty. 2 water pumps. Thermostats done once. And 2 alternators. Stock tranny. Been super reliable.

@@jimpeanut6697the millage doesnt matter as much as the frame if the frame is rotted its not worth any money take it from someone who had it happen I had a zf6 lb7 with only 97000 miles but the config was too rare to find a doner for the frame I am not buying a lb7 with 348,000 but was rebuilt at 270,000 and the frame is mint as it was never used during the winter

Hey Jack, iv heard if you run good diesel additive for lubricity and add a fass fuel system (or any additional fuel pump) you can certainly maintain injector longevity.
I love myLB7! The Allison transmission is a great transmission. 367,000 kilometres on it an no slippage. I changed the fuel injectors on it for the first time after owning it for 6 years. Jut replaced the glow plugs and installed a lift pump. It’s straight piped. I love the sound of the LB7. It sounds evil raspy and menacing! For what they’re worth they are great trucks! And it’s never left me dead on road.

I have a 2002 Duramax diesel with 297,000 just hit it and it runs like a top. Not sure if the injectors have ever been changed but I love the lb7s
An important aspect of LB7 injectors is they used the dreaded VCO design, abandoned in all later versions by the much more reliable SAC type, the latter now an option in OEM flow rates from several suppliers. OEM rate, since no tuner is necessary.
Have an lb7. It's my first diesel and i do all the work myself. Changed injectors. Added a lift pump. 5" exhaust. Cai. New cp3.
They can be expensive if you bring it to a shop. You can cut your cost by 75% if you do the work yourself.
How much did it cost? Everyone says the injectors cost $3-5k is that new? Or reman? Are remans gonna be junk way sooner?
A little correction on injector cost; injectors run about 1800 after core turn in. Best bet is going with Bosch injectors from some of the big name online companies. I have a 03 LB7 and my first set of injectors lasted 75k miles which ain’t bad but most are looking at 60k range. My replacements cost 3k for parts and labor and I went with 30 over injectors. Additionally, do head studs whenever you change injectors because you are already right there and the tear down is already done. Great channel bro!
Better off getting sac tipped injectors, lift pump, and additives at every other fuel up. If you do ask those they won't fail you.
It's done well on my 03 with 380k on the dial

Leveled on 20x10 -24 on 295/55R20 is my look. The sidewalls are straight up and down and gives it a nice clean look. No bulge and no stretch

Outside of the injectors, they're far less problematic than llys and cheaper to maintain than an LBZ. They're the toughest pre emissions duramax.

Fuel Filtration is the key for those injectors. BTW...I wouldn't trade my LB7 for anything!
Me either. Most of them have already had the upgraded injectors installed. Combined that with a lift pump/filtration and they are as good as anything else. I have over 120K on this set and added Fass 95 along with Nictane Cat adapter. Overkill, maybe but the results so far are good....

cant only go by balance rates they fluctuate so much. The most accurate way to actually test an injector is retune rates.

You can have bad injectors and still good rates. Balance rates are not 100% accurate measure for how your injectors are doing.

I got a 04 lb7 and I'm going through the same thing. Literally broke down right next to a chevy dealership 30 minutes away from my house. I left it there. Imma get raped but that tow bill to my house plus the repair would probably be the same amount of money. Go figure.

MM3 is referring to volume, otherwise known as a cubic millimeter. A balance test shows the "delta" or how much, in MM3 the injector is off from A "perfect" injector. A perfect injector would show 0% MM3 in a balance test. But that is nearly impossible because injectors have varying response times from one to another, even when brand spanking new! Response times are how long each injector takes to open and close itself. When injectors start going bad the longer their response times become. Diesel injectors or any Direct injection injector are at their slowest response times while at idle, this is because they are designed to operate faster with higher fuel pressure. That's right, more fuel pressure means faster response times.This is why we do balance tests at idle, the truck is at it's lowest fuel pressure which will yield the highest delta's and make it easier to spot a bad injector. This explanation is way overkill LOL! I just hope it helps someone like myself who loves to know what the data they are looking at is, and how to interpret it.

My first diesel truck was a 01 lb7. I didn't know much about them and ended up spending over 10k to try and fix it. Unfortunately my mechanic was a terrible person, and just took my money. I ended up just giving him the truck instead of paying him for the last repairs.

Just because the balance rates are good doesn't mean that the injectors are good... they still can get stuck open at times or leak externally into the oil
@@captainstabbin9338 speaking from experience I've done tons of lb7-lbz injectors and 60% of them said they where good on my tech 2 but when actually bench tested they flowed more and didn't attomize as well as others
