Nifty Bundle from Cre8audio - my first modular system!

- I took the modular plunge! The Nifty bundle from Cre8audio looks like a good proposition for getting into modular, and their nifty bundle gives you everything you need to get started. But, the real magic here is the routing and clocking options the nifty case gives you. USB to CV, USB to clock, opens up all sorts of possibilities. In this video, I pair the nifty bundle with the Volca Sample and the Volca Modular.

Looks like an awesome beginner setup with Loads of options. It will probably be years before I make the Modular Dive but Thanks so much for the info on a good first step.
Great video, I recently purchased and have been tying it to my moog werkstat 01. Making some cool stuff.
The output audio is clean and changing my production. GREAT VIDEO
Did you get the new kit werkstat that came out Dec 2020? This looked pretty tasty, and a bargain for a genuine Moog product! Cheers.
Halfway though shaving the other day I realised I still had headphones on. I think we are among an emerging demographic that is constantly wearing headphones for one reason or another :0) Very useful video, thanks.
Good story! Yea, every evening I go down to the basement and put those big cans on...
I have one of those bundles as well. Liked and subscribed.
still using this all the time, I've even gigged it a couple of times. Thanks and welcome!
I also wanted to feel like a secret agent and started my modular setup. Really liked your video and style, thanks!
Thanks Dude!
Hey man! Could you make more videos of your eurorack experience, I know you have posted a few already, I have ordered said Eurorack and loving your integration with Albeton!
Word. I kind of ignored my modular rig for Jamuary, but now ready to pick it up again. It has advanced! Yea, the usb implementation is great. Works really well with Ableton and Reaper. Thanks dude!
Go on....
I'm just going to do the same use the just arrive nifty box and use my Volca modular
Yea, this actually makes for a pretty interesting set-up. You can take clock from Nifty, and sync volca, and then sync everything from DAW (if that's your cup o tea). Let me know how it goes!
Hi Mark. The Synth Club got given those two modules by Robin Vincent so I've added them to the skiff case he also provided us with (I've yet to add the necessary power supply but Andy's given me something free too which with any luck might be okay). I get the impression those modules aren't that great but to be fair they start the ball rolling & even if they are a bit flaky that in itself will provide a particular sound which other modules probably won't have so that's another string for the bow isn't it? I'm gagging to buy the new Moog Werkstadt which is about £200 & now comes with proper a Eurorack interface so it's meaty oscillator & quality filter can be added to what I've already got _but like you I'll be living off Baked Beans if I get it!_
was debating about getting the Nifty bundle or the volca modular...would you suggest one over the other?
I have both. Volca modular is good fun, and introduces you to the world of modular. Whole the Nifty case is the start of a much bigger adventure. But, you'll need to start spending a few bucks to get a decent modular system. The volca modular is a bit more contained. So maybe the volca modular is the way fwd? You might find a 2nd hand unit for 100 bucks.
Plus......this is mostly Greek to me.....but I am still Highly Intrigued by Modular....
intrigued, yes, me too. My approach will be 'learn by doing'.
@@abominablemusic Almost always the best approach, in my humble experience, especially for old codgers like us...
No problems with the mono output on the cre8 case? I heard it’s mono output so you can only hear from one ear but wondering if plugging it up into a mixer will fix it, you didn’t seem to have trouble with it ?
Yea, mono output. I use a 1/4" to XLR cable and go into a mixer. The advantage of a mono output is you can use guitar stomp boxes. But yea, in 2021, it's like 'mono, oh, that's old school...'
P.s. literally recording audio from the nifty as I type. Nice stereo output from the mixer.
@@abominablemusic nice! I might be getting this soon and just wondering about the output, new to modular here so it’s all a first for me lol great video man! I got a few volcas myself
Sorry for the dumb question, but with the clock you can send to modules the daw bpm?
As far as I know, this isn't possible. Ableton is the brain, so things like clock flow only 1 way, FROM Ableton TO Nifty. One could control the Tempo in Ableton in various ways: tempo automation, tap-tempo function, changing it on-the-fly. Happy to be corrected by someone more knowledgeable...
@@abominablemusic yes, I meant from ableton to nifty, just wanted to know if clock is the same as bpm. Thx
@@Daforwin yes, absolutely. Ableton sends clock to Nifty, works really well. The Nifty case has a distinct patch-out for clock, so you can clock an Arp or drum machine.
How do you find the modules? I’ve watched a few not so complimentary reviews!
Yea, I've removed both to be honest. Chipz is rather 'lo-fi', which is fine, but the tracking wasn't so good. On the plus side, it does give you 1 lfos (plus the square waves could be used as gate...). Never really figured cellz out, but that's my laziness. It's probably quite useful for generating random cv, that feed another module. As a case, it's great. I'm now using it as my midi brain to send midi and cv around the studio.
Thanks for the reply! I’m thinking about just getting the case then filling it with bits that work for me! God knows how long it’s gonna take, I haven’t got the time or finances to make any mistakes! Thanks again for the video if you don’t know that much, I probably know a tenth of that! At the moment I’m just having fun with my Bastl Kastle
@@trevormalcolm4328 everything in my case is second hand! Doepfer modules aren't too expensive, but indeed, not a cheap hobby!
Part of me can’t help but think the Nifty case isn’t a good deal, it’s just priced appropriately in a sea of too highly priced items.
I hear you. It's a box with a USB input and an audio out. I imagine there are plenty of folks out there that could just make this sort of thing in their shed! But, once you've got it, you've got it. I'm not a modular zealot, but am enjoying my experiments so far... cheers.
@@abominablemusic Yeah I think the box itself with the inputs and outputs on it is fantastic and a no brainer. I know a few others are doing it now but how it wasn’t a thing from the start is odd.
