      Bassbreaker series blows the modern DSLs out of the water... unless we're talking about the ones that were made in the U.K.

    • @Driftuner
      @Driftuner Před 7 lety +14

      well, its a matter of taste...i prefer the bassbreakers as well, but there is no denying that the DSL range is very nice, specially when you consider the price...i mean, the DSL40C is a LOT of amplifier for the price..

    • @Dagger_323
      @Dagger_323 Před 7 lety +3

      Pe Peroni it can cover a lot of bases, sure. But I personally never liked the overall tone of the Vietnam made DSLs. I can't stand high gain, so I only used mine to mimic a Plexi and obtain classic blues-rock crunch. I was never satisfied with it. Last year I picked up a JCM 2000 made in England and it wiped the floor with the modern DSL I had (which I sold and bought a Bassbreaker 45, which also annihilated it for those classic tones I was after).

      Ben Gale I mean a twin reverb set up is always good cause it’s got good cleans and an awesome pedal platform. But I couldn’t see why you couldn’t get the Bass Breaker head to make that work.

    • @golfhound
      @golfhound Před 3 lety +1

      @@ejw3006 I would go with the bassbreaker head. The 15 watt is the only one available in a separate head. The head also has two speaker output jacks. That way, I could buy one or two cabinets.

    11:13 the reason the "standby" light blink is to let you know that the amp is not only muted, but still active for silent recording or sending to a PA through the Direct Out on the back of the amp... not just a standby feature, but also a speaker mute for silent recording....

    Great review! I just bought the 007 combo the other day on sale for less than the price of the 007 head at Guitar Center. Lee is right about the 10 inch speaker sounding farty - it's the cheapest 10 Celestion makes. But connect the 007 combo to a different cab, like my one twelve, and it sounds AMAZING. I agree with Rob - I think this is the best dirt sound of any Fender amp. It's very, very rock and roll.

    Bought one used for $400 today, love it so far, it does the fender lo gain clean which is a great pedal platform, the medium channel has a vox like chime, and finally the high gain sound does a great Marshall sound. The only complaint I have is that there is no spring reverb, but that can be handled by pedals.

    • @Robstafarian

      +MEDiumInc You are confusing amp names with amp architecture: never mistake marketing for engineering.

    • @MEDiumInc
      @MEDiumInc Před 8 lety +12

      +Robstafarian I'm not confusing anything. those are 2 iconic amps, and I want to see how the bass breaker competes against them
      besides, the bass breaker 45 says on the product page it's a tribute to the 59 baseman. and marshalls early amps where based on the bassman. so it would still be fitting anyways seeing as the bass breaker it's an EL84 gain amp

    • @Robstafarian
      @Robstafarian Před 8 lety +1

      MEDiumInc Virtually the entire history of tube electric guitar amps is based on tweaks to one of three circuits: the Fender Bassman (typically the 5F6-A), the Vox AC30/6, and the Fender Deluxe Reverb (typically the AA763). I cannot be sure which Bassbreaker you want in the comparison because you mentioned both the Bassbreaker 45 (which is substantially different than the Bassbreaker 15 and 007) and EL84 power tubes: the Bassbreaker 45 has EL34 power tubes.
      I have to assume you mean to compare combos, so do you plan to control for the different speakers? The Bluesbreaker, which was a Model 1986 JTM 45 2x12 combo, used Celestion G12 AlNiCo Silver T1656 speakers; the '59 Bassman used Jensen P10Q speakers (of which the current Italian production is not representative), and the Bassbreaker combos use Celestion V-Type speakers (which are something like quieter, cheaper Vintage 30s).

    I recently sold my Blues Jr and just got the BB15 combo. I think the BB15 can do the Blues Jr clean to "gritty" tones but also has a sweet overdrive built in. I like to play without pedals and just use the guitar volume to get from clean to dirty so the BB15 suits my style well. Aside from that the quality of the BB15 seems way better than the BJ from the linear controls to the speaker and cabinet. Plus it just looks cool! ;-)

      Not really. The supersonic is half bassman/half hotrodded fender type deal. And fenders don’t typically sound great for high gain stuff. Get them driving hard enough, and they do crunch up nicely. However, things like the hot rod deluxe are pretty much just clean amps until you use pedals. but if you want gain, get a Marshall. That’s what these are supposed to be. Fenders idea of A british take on the bassman circuitry, Ie, jtm45.

    • @skrattzerat5831

      +Jordan Scotland that is because double wattage does not equal double the SPC and yet double SPC does not equal perceived 2x the volume :D. The perceived raise of double the watt would be somewhere around 23%? depending on listener and tonal frequency

    • @shadeofull
      @shadeofull Před 8 lety

      +Jordan Scotland Actually if there in perfect phase relation ship (no one is moving and you've split the signal (exact same signal into the two amps) ) then you've got a +6dB boost (only if the phase relation is stable)

    • @denembro
      @denembro Před 8 lety

      +Ryan K I don't know all the technical terms, but when I play two amps together, my volume gets pretty loud, to where playing one amp, I could be on 6 on the volume, but with two I'm on 4, which helps to stay a little cleaner when you play two amps. One thing I know for sure, they are in phase, because I always play two of the same amps.

    • @MoANjAmSaiNT
      @MoANjAmSaiNT Před 8 lety +4

      +MoANjAmSaiNT 3 dB is the smallest difference in volume that the human ear can detect during a piece of music, so it isn't a massive increase, 10 dB however is a massive increase as it is perceived as a doubling of volume

      Fascist Walrus I don't own a Marshall at all actually :) I own a Bassbreaker 45 head and 2x12 cab. I crank it up to 10 and use an attenuator to get those power tubes working into Plexi territory without going deaf. For the money, I'm absolutely convinced it's the best amp on the market. But I have played Marshalls that were owned by other people that were better. They were also nearly $2000 more than my amp. So I'll stick with my Bassbreaker. I just think the statement that it's a better amp than anything Marshall makes is a bit ludicrous. Better value and better quality are not the same thing.

  • @philbrannigan5854
    @philbrannigan5854 Před 8 lety +11

    The 15 looks to be a winner. Effects loop. Right volume for stage. Three really great sounds. Except for one thing. No foot switching between the gain stages. If the intention was that you'd put pedals in front of it, what's the point of the three gain stages? Hang on, I've got a solo coming up, I'd better get to the back of the stage, take my hand off the fretboard and turn a knob on my amp and twiddle a volume knob. Come on Fender, if you want to make a gigging amp for the masses, add footswitchable gain stages, better still, with three independent master volumes, and you won't be able to make enough of them. Add 100 quid to the price to pay for it, you still won't be able to make enough of them.

Like you said, not a metal amp, but I think you could get it there with a good boost or overdrive. I might even consider this as my only amp rather than getting a high gain amp and a separate amp for clean.

      No,no, I just like music. Music is made by the pauses between notes. Play one note 20 times with no breaks or changes. now play the same note 20 times but leave a few gaps and maybe change the length of some of them. Which sounds like music and which sounds like just a load of notes? Shredding is just notes, music is more than that. It doesn't have to be blues.

    • @bryand.5240
      @bryand.5240 Před 8 lety +2

      Shredding isn't playing the same note 20 times, which is where your argument becomes irrelevant

    • @trollfiddler
      @trollfiddler Před 8 lety +1

      +Mr. Señor That was an example for ease of playing if anyone wanted to try it. The point was that a load of notes all of the same duration and speed with
      no breaks are not music. It doesn't matter if they are the same note or
      not. If you sang a song that way you'd sound like a robot, whether or
      not you changed notes. I presume you subscribe to shredding, if so learn
      some stuff about melodic playing. Your playing will take a turn for
      the better, honestly.
