They are of Algerian descent but they never identified as being Algerian. They play for France so they’re French and want to be called so. Same reason why Zidane isn’t here even though he is of Algerian descent as well. However Zidane and Benzema have that Algerian flair clearly as mahrez does now and it’s hard not to distinguish it in their play. The elegance and skill

@@Aymen-bl7sq I found out earlier apparently Zidane actually wanted to play for the Algerian national team but they rejected him because “there were a lot of players like him” we could have potentially won a World Cup
