Was listening to the Blade Runner soundtrack, when I heard familiar vocals. Had to revisit My Kingdom. I miss this era of electronic music. I can distinctly recall discovering so much great music and artists back in 93-97.
Yeah, i hear you. The selection and quality was loads higher back then, due to the investment into physical media. That`smy resumé about the nowadays. Everyone can publish himself without any noteable investment into anything. Thereby people who can press a coubple of buttons without creative impact flooded the so called market with, let`s say, loads of low quality.
Dead Cities is the Album that this comes from. Also a masterpiece. But this is deffinately a nice bonus. My kingdom is such a great track. Extended version is perfect.
I remember my Uncle had this, I remember puting this on a mix take I was making for my plane ride to Los Angeles in 1996. Having listened to it in all that time, my mate Ally Brown is a DJ and he used a sample from this in a tune bout' 10 years back. I've picked about 900 Liberty Caps in the last 3 days n' gonna have a trip at the weekend, I think I'll listen to this when I do!
Start of parts (not duration) :) My Kingdom (Part 1) 00:00 My Kingdom (Part 2) 10:50 My Kingdom (Part 3) 14:05 My Kingdom (Part 4) 21:16 My Kingdom (Part 5) 26:28
I'm very familiar with Dead Cities since it came out and to hear the expanded versions of this is bindmlowing! I have the We Have Explosive single but had forgotten the sheer quality of their releases. Gonna look em all up now, woohoooo!
Future Sound of London with elements of Ennio Morricone and Pink Floyd - an amazing combination. One of the best thing FSOL did in my opinion. Lovely stuff. I'm also now trying to think of the other tune FSOL did which on that occasion used an actual Pink Floyd sample - from 'On The Run')
Does this sample Once upon a time in America? I've been listening to the soundtrack lately and was wondering if its sampled. I did a quick search but came up empty handed..
By the secret, my old good friend came to Shenzhen to make robots, just because of Rachel and the FSOL, surely, so it is making sense in inspiring our feelings. My good friend is making the Rachel. Is it an influence or a good will?
Probably the least chart-friendly thing they ever released and I thank them for that. Whoever would've thought that a bunch of acid-house boys like FSOL and Orbital would be producing musical Haute Couture half a decade later?
@@MemoryLaneCinema It was - but it was not by any means a mainstream enough sound to have been reasonably expected to chart. The fact that it did - and highly! - is testament to the often surprising good taste of the British public and for the boys a vindication of their decision to release sometime more expansive and, dare I say it, challenging than 'Lifeforms', 'Cascade' or 'Far Out Son of Lung'. I suppose I helped in my own way to make it a hit by buying the 12"... never really thought about it like that til now.
@@commodoreredlight If we don't fuck up the entire civilization or planet, this'll become a '30 decades' later. Crazy mofos, incredible period for music..
I always thought so too. The orb and FSOL got me into a love of dance music.I then discovered the likes of Jam & Spoon,Sven Vath, cosmic baby, and then the British, remix explosion. Wow! The music that was created in the early to mid nineties from all over Europe. The likes we'll never see again.😞😞
so great. and that bladerunner sample? if it was anyone else I'd roll my eyes, but this shit is still as freash as it was hot off the tapedeck, or whatever.
Hmm fascinating .. Is the atrwork revealing something about the Matrix we live in, saturn , black obelisk , Artificial intelligence , hive mind transhumanism etc ?
was playing this in the car a few years ago, co-worker gets in to head out for lunch. this comes on at about 4:50...His comment, WHAT IS THIS THE AVATAR SOUNDTRACK?!? Me: GET OUT!
Did you rip this off the Vinyl? I've got it and have always been underwhelmed by how it sounds. It's really 'thin' compared to a lot of their other work. I love the track, but there's something missing...
No CD ripped to a Yamaha HDD recorder then comined the tracks and used Yamaha A.M.Q.R. to copy to a blank disc then ripped it to my PC and after those steps used a editing program to add the cover picture and it changes it to MPEG 4 video then uploaded it. Hope that helps
Best known for their seminal single ‘Papua New Guinea’ and their second album ‘Lifeforms’. Two British guys who were pioneers of ambient electronica along with The Orb. Other albums worth checking out imo include Dead Cities which this track is from and Environments 4. They have been very prolific in their career with many, many albums. They also recorded under other names, most notably ‘Amorphous Androgonous’ under which moniker they made albums such as ‘Tales of Ephidrina’ and ‘The Isness’. The were also the first act in the world to do a live concert remotely which spawned their album ISDN.
The nostalgia is almost unbearable whenever I listen to this. It takes me back almost 30 years now. Where did all the time go? 😢😢

Vangelis, thank you for Rachel. And God, thank you for fsol
FSOL still sound like the future, and the future looks a whole lot more dystopian than it did 20 years ago when this was made
Word ✌

Heard parts 2 to 4 on the radio a long time ago (in the 90s) and never could find them. Just breathtaking!
this is on my top ten favorite albums of all time.

I love that We Have Explosive EP!
I've always found it fascinating how well they incorporated the Morricone samples from Once Upon a Time in America
Has anyone else noticed the cover art is a face with the third eye?
Holy shit!
If it's intentional then my hat is off...
I see it now ty...dope shyt!!!

Let’s see what we can see
First of all, Vangelis had stolen my soul by the Raychel's Song. Then Fsol polished it with a grinder saw five times. So I am what I am. Nuff said
By the secret, my old good friend came to Shenzhen to make robots, just because of Rachel and the FSOL, surely, so it is making sense in inspiring our feelings. My good friend is making the Rachel. Is it an influence or a good will?
weird! I heard this on the Blade Runner Retirement Edition! I never knew it was FSOL

Delightful, flashbacks from the 90s
Probably the least chart-friendly thing they ever released and I thank them for that. Whoever would've thought that a bunch of acid-house boys like FSOL and Orbital would be producing musical Haute Couture half a decade later?
not correct. My kingdom was a "hit"
