  • We spent a week on Lake Atitlan and compiled our experiences to create this travel guide to Lake Atitlan. I had a hard time understanding the towns before actually visiting, so I did my best to explain the layout.

You are an amazing mom to opt for your girls to have “real life” learning education. So cool for them to learn about history, math (money conversion rates), Phys Ed (climbing mountains and hills of Central America. And Mexico), common sense, communication skills and so much more. Really enjoyed this video. Your girls will live a good life from the experiences and skills you’ve provided them.

I planned a 10 day walk from the airport in Guatemala City to Xala (Quetzaltenango) via Lake Atitlan, starting July 26, 2023. About 20 km per day. I will be posting daily videos. Thank you for this great adventure. Peace. ✌️😊

Did you go into Cafe Loco while you were in Panajachel? It's run by two brothers from South Korea.

@@kathieleece I’ll give it a shot next time I’m there. I should be in San Pedro next week for two months, so I have plenty of time to go to Pana! Peace! ✌️😊

@FrScottHikes the cafe may not even be in existence anymore. I have not been in Guatemala for six and a half years. It was quite popular. When the cafe is open, there is/was a huge dream catcher in the entranceway.

What a beautiful area! The wrong boat still took you to an interesting town. The textile tour was cool, the chocolate dipped fruit, yum! Really nice tour, thank you! If I had to wait as long as you did for the boat at the end of the vid, I would have fallen asleep, lol.

Oh, how I miss pupusas!!! They can be found in Ontario but not where I am. 😢 Maybe I will make them someday. I will put this on my list of things to show on my CZcams channel. I can't wait to get to Nicaragua and post my first Vlog episode. ❤

I guess our game plan is to leave Nicaragua at the end of February….. do two months in Antigua, two months in Lake Atitlan, and two months in Xela.
….assuming we get 3 months and can extend for another three like we can here.
Then….we will FINALLY get to San Cris !
    Not Vegan anymore ?

    • @MomonaJourney

What a beautiful plan! I would have loved to spend more time in Guatemala.
I was veganish cus I ate eggs… And not at the moment, my health got really bad last year and I realized I have to adapt to where I am. I’ve had a really hard time in Chiapas being vegan and traveling in general. Finding food isn’t the problem, it’s finding food that is balanced (protein and vitamins) … most places that would accommodate me would be with potatoes or lettuce/tomato. Keep in mind I’m also gluten free (in theory… I’m supposed to be for my illness ). It took a toll on me. So I gave in, in hopes that when I move back to the states I can resume. Right now I’m eating a limited amount of items that my body can handle… but cheat when I’m around things I miss 🙈🙈🙈.
Would love to hear how it’s going for you guys, being vegan outside the USA? Has it been easy or difficult?

Really it hasn’t been bad but I do really miss fake meats, vegan cheeses, etc but probably better for me to stay away from all that stuff.

  • @therehastobesomethingmoore

We REALLY want to go to Antigua and Lake Atitlan, and maybe Xela. That will likely be our next country then on to San Cris. I think we get 90 days in a tourist visa. We would normally try to get an extension but if it is that pricey, 90 days will be plenty. Maybe we will try a month in each of the three It sure is a beautiful place !
Do you think if you were living there full time. Had a 1 year lease, got away from tourist stuff….could the prices drop down close to San Cris ? Thx Karen !

So hard to say because I don’t know what type of rentals are available for extranjeros. I would recommend joining fb expat groups and asking there. I would lean “probably “ though ☺️ wish I could be more help ☺️

I lived for a year in San Pedro at a place with my own bed and bathroom, for 300q a week (45usd)...in Xela I stayed a few nights close to the Central Park at Casa Argentina for 40q a night! So I think there are places, you just have to hope there is availability...for a one year lease in these places you can get a really nice modern apartment from 1600-2500q a month!
