One thing that nobody knew much about in the base game is Miquella. The DLC is the story of why Miquella has gone into the Shadow Lands and why he needs our help. Any time you see statues of a mother holding a child in the base game, know that the child is Miquella.

There is people who know it is all in the base game read the item descriptions and look around for the symbolical architecture.

4:44 there is lore around Miquella in the base game but we´ll probably get much more of it in the DLC
With all that said, you really gotta get to playing man!
DLC is said to have like 4 legacy dungeons and mini dungeons. (lot more compact compared to main game which is nice)
If you like souls songs, you need to listen to the song of the fight with Gael from Dark Souls 3. Maybe with that song, you start playing Dark Souls 3 on the future!
