I have the same smoker! What I do is put water in the pan just up to the divide and then pour in a 1-2 cups of white vinegar, turn the temp all the way up with the vent closed (take the cold smoker off if you have one) and let it go for at least an hour. This steams the whole inside and you can scrub any off the window like in your video. After the element cools down, doesn't take long, I spray clean water inside and tilt it forward to drain. Leave the door open for another hour or two and you are done. This also keep from losing your seasoning inside the smoker but takes the grease right off as you don't have to scrub the inside.

Nice simple video on the cleaning, could do without the 1:15 minute long intro.

Thank you for the video. My concern was what to clean it without using chemicals or scratching window. You answered both.

Elle Dee The problem is what chemicals are in the Mr.Clean Eraser? Whatever is in it is now in your smoker and flavouring your food. That's why they use vinegar and water mixture.

Make a paste with water and baking soda. Rub all over on the glass and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Wipe or rinse off, repeat if necessary.

Of several videos I have watched regarding the cleaning of the MES window, this is the simplest and most effective method that I have seen. Did you heat up the smoker before cleaning the window? Thanks.

Here's how I clean mine and also fireplace glass doors. Wad up a sheet of newspaper. Dip one side in water to dampen then touch a pile of fireplace or smoker ash to get a light coating on the paper. Wipe the glass to remove all the tar on it. No real mess if you have several sheets of paper and toss the dirty one as soon as it begins to get tarred up from the residue. No water running down on the deck and generally no hard scrubbing if you do this after each use. It will also clean thick layers of tar with a bit more scrubbing.

I heat mine up, then let it cool until I can almost touch everything. I still use heat gloves to pull out the racks and components. Then fill a bucket with car wash soap and wipe down the inside with that soapy water and rinse it out with the hose. I don't worry about getting the heating element wet because after I'm done, I blow it out with a leaf blower till it's dry. Then just scrub off the racks and removable trays with the water and barbecue brush. I still have seasoning residue on the interior walls, but it's clean.

The BEST part of this video is that I haven't seen the OBVIOUS replies- DON"T buy a cooking machine with a window (other than a microwave). The window will steam up, (or smoke up in this case) and the window is NEVER functional. Waste of extra money to get a view of something that you just can't even see!

Why would they build a smoker with a window? You don't need to look inside and glass will just make it harder to hold heat. I have been smoking meat for fifty years and have never needed to look at a black glass

    • @MrRBMods

I thought the same thing. But after I used mine it was always nice to walk by and see if there was smoke still being produced without having to open the door.
