MRE: Slovakia 24 Hour Food Ration (PODAP) "Simple yet Surprising"

- This review is a Slovak Republic, Slovenská Republika. It is for Emergencies and the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic, Ozbrojené sily Slovenskej Republiky. It is bare bones basic, yet a comprehensive kit with all kinds of neat touches. The Tea and Multi-vitamin tablets are very interesting and something I would seriously consider putting in any ration if I designed one. Huge Thanks to Roger for making this review possible. Awesome ration and so nice of our Slovakian friends to include a classic can opener/pot holder with all that beautiful patina on it 😂. Thanks for this one brother!
Compressed instant tea GENUIS! Nice review gundog! Love these European rations
Those drinks are the cats meow. A quick pop of the tab and your good to go very resourceful and good thinking. All the mains looked fantastic as well as the cool different components. Great Review Gundog! It was very cool to see this ration.
Great review Gundog! Wish there were some kind of side item for the meals but they do look quite good and easily something i would enjoy. Thanks for sharing!
That ration actually looks tasty. Glad you’re back!
Finally an adult ration. No candy, no cake, no fruit. Just meat meals.
Not an adult ration, it's just our country doesn't want to spend any money towards the army and that even counts the "MRE"
The producer of the Slovak ration is the pinnacle of enterprise. It looks as if they were able to procure odd lots of Soviet era manufacturing equipment. The ring-pull canning method was the envy of Eastern Europe circa 1980s. They probably got it for "Halers" on the "Koruna" before they switched to the Euro. The food, just as you said. I do love the effervescent vitamin thing. This old geezer is humming:"Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is!"
Where can I get some of the drink tablets? I'm good on the crisp bread. I really want to try the tea
@@shellyhudson1905 - That is both an excellent and an incredibly difficult question. I'm just guessing. I imagine, somewhere out there in the Universe, there is a purveyor of Eastern Block/Warsaw Pact and other Soviet Era militaria and memorabilia. Your's is a question that would baffle the most learned of curators. Off the top of my pumpkin head I'd say the obvious E-bay, or Craig's List. Perhaps someone at Varusteleka, a Finnish surplus dealer in militaria might know? Best of luck, and may your quest for the Grail be successful.
@@fredthorne9692 well you can get some at Wal-Mart in the sports drink section of the pharmacy. They dont have a good selection though. I finally found a name of a product called nuun. You can get it online but it's usually bulk. I want to try some but I can't buy bulk bc idk if I will like it.
@@shellyhudson1905 I know the tea because it's something we used to buy here in Slovakia when i was sick it was called zinc tea tablet but i don't know if this is still made.
Really good MRE review Gundog! Love your channel and content! 👍😎
Great seeing you Gundog and a great review as always. Looking good. Cant wait for more:)
This looks amazing. Awesome review Gundog.
Looks pretty good, but no candy? Emergency is right! Thank you for the review, Jim. Stay safe
Greetings from Slovakia! Glad you enjoyed. Sorry for lack of sugar and stale crisp breads :D (tho I think thats the way they are suposed to be, tasteless with a hint of flour)
They may be but I've have some in the Czech rations that were crispy like the Wasa brand crisp breads I can get at the market. Think it was just a hit or miss thing. Can you find those tea effervescent tablets?? They were pretty darn awesome!
@@gundog4314 I am not sure, which type of tea tablets was in ration bag. It look like black tea. What I know in Slovakia most common tea effervescent tablets are this : www.drmax.sk/medpharma-zeleny-caj-100-mg-vit.-e-c-se-zn . That is green tea with vitamins.
What a unique and interesting 24 hour ration !
I thought the MRE community had faded. Hadn't heard from you or Steve1989 for awhile. Glad to see you back!
@keith moore Yeah, I saw it. Thanks.
You know me it needed coffee lol.
I do like the stove being self contained to keep the smell out bag.
The drink tabs. Do you know what they are sweetened with?
Yay Gundog!!!! I am relaxing and catching up on my vids. Today is a good day!
The drink tabs remind me of airborne brand. Who started with a orange vitamin tab then spread out into all kinds of stuff after a big company paid a billion for the rights. Several others have knocked it off including great value.
Another fun review gundog 👍
Its called sumienka, we had those ever since i can remember when i lived in SK...
Thanks for the videos, always!
SHOUTOUT TO MY BOY STEVE1989!
Steve rules the mre world
Looks good man !!!
Those crisp breads. Are we sure they are stale? Seems like every review I've seen it's said they are stale. Every one of them I've had I thought was stale. Maybe they are just supposed to have that texture?
As a Slovakian I can confirm they are not stale, they are just terrible, they are more of a czecho-slovakian made since Czech Army uses them too, PODAP is one of the worst MRE's in the world if not the worst, not even the soldiers eat it :D
I've never tried these, but we have a cracker in Australia called a Cruskit, which looks identical. And they have a very "stale" texture.
I always enjoy seeing rations from all over the world and other than the stale crackers it looks like a good one! Thanks for the review, hope everyone is well at your place.
Very cool Dog ! I have never lucked into one of these. Unsure if I have seen review of one? Sweet ! Very interesting components friend. Accessory pack is truly different. Nice. I am surprised the drinks actually tasted good. WOW. Some food may have been bland, however, they looked good on my end of you camera Gdog. Nicely done sir. Peace, John.
Welcome back gundog great review as always those mains look pretty good don’t know bout those bread/ crackers. That can holder looked like someone used it and threw it in there 🤣🤣🤣. Great job brother!
Great to see you again gundog awsome review bummer on the crisp breads I'm sure they would have been decent if not stale good job buddy
looks delicious. another great ration video
Glad to see you are well stay safe and keep the video's coming
The ol's stove on a BBQ trick. Haha, boy have I been there. Excellent video man. I'm loving it.
Nice video.
That paté probably has smoked bacon or speck in it. The orange tinge would also suggest paprika.
You did eat this while Slav squatting and wearing an Adidas track suit right?
Slovakia is no Russia, not so many gopniks...Go back to Boris and stay cheeky breeki!
@@MS-gr2nv i love your sarcasm brilliant compared to the disgusting small black hat humor. Many of us in the usa like and respect eastern europeans. They have lived through the machinations of the tribe for centuries.

Respect, bro!
this is a cool one, im not sure if I have one or not....nice vid, MDog
Awesome video brother
So glad your back
ahoj zo Slovenska, vďaka za video (hi from Slovakia, thanks for the video) :-)
Looks very simple but the mains are nice. The pea soup is more a stew. Nice review Gundog
Since I'm a bounced Czech, that ration is right up my street, brother. A few years ago, I had an identical tube of drink tablets that made a "Gatorade" type of sports drink. Haven't seen them since, but they were US. I'll have to search for them.
Wow what a great looking ration.
Very Nice Video My Man
Good that your back
loads of yummie foods in this Mre.
Very nice!
I'v watched lotsa field ration videos - this is by far most appealing. Shame there is only one fuel tab with canned cook kit - need three tabs for three meals. The variety of crispy breads is improvement over crackers. Needs a service packet with roll napkins, seasoning, dental gum, moist towelette, etc - the spoon cud be bigger. The drink tabs are genius. What is other menus? I wud happily eat this!
Good to see you gundog
hes back 😀
Another simple ration that troops would love but Nattick/DoD couldn't recognize to save their life! They might make the main on the lighter side(6.5 oz instead of 8 oz) but take out the potatoes and replace the beef with pork/ham. And surely by now, they're closer to having shelf stable cornbread. This is gonna demand cheese, crackers, maybe the marble cake muffin top. Beats the hell outta ratatouille any day!
Interesting that they put that heavy duty can opener in EVERY meal. The beverage vials also seen too heavy duty, and the extra lid for the stove almost redundant.
I think the purpose is more for humanitarian emergencies which may require it if you lost everything or were displaced.
Those drink tabs look like the Nuun brand. The container is identical and the tablets look very similar.
I have tried those and there is a slight difference but pretty much the same.....now I just make no sense HAHA!
I was thinking airborne brand knock off same tube and all.
Those tablets are available in supermarkets in the UK and EU
Gundog, I have noticed your past few videos haven't had ads on them, is this a glitch on my end or was your channel axed from ads for some reason?
All this MRE stuff finally rubbed off on me. Found a site that sells Mountain House that ships. Finally got a chance to taste what freeze dried MRE's taste like. Quite good actually. I also bought these survival tablets that are Vanilla Malt flavor. Got to admit that's the most I ever spent on candy but boy, are those things ever good! I also bought some DayTrex bars, just to try. Been nibbling on some of these a little at a time since I really don't need all those extra calories.
I know right now to me, MRE's are just a novelty, but I do appreciate what goes into making those things fit for service, or for food storage.
I have been to Slovakia it’s a good place to go
Pohotovosť in this case means "stand by" or "preparedness"
The emergency room is called Pohotovosť or Pohotovostná Služba in Slovakia that is why english speakers get it confused.
Those drink tablets are the bees knees. Would those fit into a bottled water without breaking or crumbling? If so, I'd like to find a supply to put back. Thanks
The rust adds flavor.
I would rather eat "peasant food", than the highly processed, hydrolyzed, emulsified, colorized, and formed into little "riblets" that passes for food in the good old USA. And Canada too, for that matter. To make a long story short, that looks like a really great ration. So, why do I keep babbling? Maybe a bit too much v*dk* :-)
Yea! A good hearty hot meal that's full of flavour.
interesting ration
I have looked everywhere for one of the slovician mres. Can u please tell me how to get one? I'm dying to try it. I have tried to get the tablets and the crisp bread can't find them online
I did get one of the mini knives I love it. Its perfect for the female hand. I collect knives and have many but the mini is so good for my smallish hands lol that looks bad in writing but I assure you I meant the knife. I also got the mini cleaver
Greetings from Puerto Rico
Here ya go, bone apple teeth!
I thought we couldn't travel in these Covid times. 🤣🤣🤣
The can opener is probably Soviet era surplus, hence the rust. 🤣🤣🤣
Hello there. I am a huge fan of you guys RC Gusto Steve1989 Gundog and Stckyfingaz. I have watched all of your videos. And I have decided I want to do what you guys do so I'm an up and coming MRE reviewer. I wanted to ask you guys if you could come together and perhaps donate or sell some good rations. I'm really interested in foriegn rations as well. Maybe we can collaborate and figure something out. Would love to start making videos but money is tight as I'm the only income in a family of 3. Anyways thanks for all your amazing videos please keep doing what y'all do. Hope to hear from you soon.
Nice review 👍🏻 You need a 🍺 to go with the meal
These rations look so much nicer than the British rations
Why not take the lid off before heating. As a chef I would suggest it. Plus it will be easier to handle. You don’t want to lid stuff that’s on an open flame unless it’s a very small controlled flame.
Just to help keep the heat in. Those tablets don't last very long. Score for the Jet Boil
Bar fight approved
Sooo, Gundog, how many calories, in all that? Thanks.
You got me. There wasn't any info on anything other that the crisp breads. I',m guessing around 2,000-2,800 though.
@@gundog4314 All right. Thanks, for checking, anyway.
Stay Healthy :-)
Bubblage & crumbage. Gundog-age English lol.
8 min mark pate stuff is brains I'm fairly sure
Pate' that's good for zombies
.......just imagine been downwind from a unit eating these rations after a week........
Try me in the field after eating nothing but beef jerky for 4 days....wee bit ripe
Hmm..do you remember 'FIZZIES'?
Who would have thought
why does slovakia get those effervescent tea and drink tablets while we're stuck with goddamn tea bags
Hey its been a while
:)
No sweets ??? dissapointing. With so many crackers a couple sachets of jam would be welcome and hardly use any space. It's a heavy ration due to cans of ready made but so yummy in the field. It's always a trade off between taste and weight. Also that can opener thing could be used to punch some holes in the "stove can" sides for air.
Looking after the lads big time .... this is quality.
Sweets and Sugar are predominantly a "Western" thing, especially Americans. Seems everything has high fructose syrup in it. From literally doing hundreds of these rations, I kind of like the "just the facts/basics" of these rations and Japanese style. Simple, tasty, no BS, with just the right amount of utility or accessories to either heat it or eat it as is. Cheers Bear!
mmmmm PODAP or POO DAP ?
I think the Tea is supposed to be hot
That bent stove piece is upside-down. Disaster waiting to happen.
Those Savages not giving ya any deserts... what a shame. lol
Yea, cause we don´t have time for that shit in war LOL :D
SUMIENKA LOL!
March to 60k
I know right?! So humbled by it.
part of it is its not freeze dried
milk fiber
Holay ever sik
