I wouldn’t add diesel fuel. Diesel will rot wood. You can pour diesel on a stump to make it rot away quicker.
Actually saw a couple other people recommending diesel but I just did motor oil and then covered it with the waterproof sealant. So far so good. I will say it did take a long time for the motor oil to dry into the wood. A few days as I recall.
Not sure what kind of diesel you use. In central Michigan, year 2005, my uncle poured diesel on a stump with plans to burn it. Something happened and he was unable to deal with said stump for a few days. By then it wouldn't burn. For years they tried random rot inducing compounds. 2011 or 12 they had it ground below surface. Last year there was still a portion of the core left.

I would imagine it would work but every article or old timer mentioned used motor oil so may be something to that. I would also use the water barrier on the below ground portion of the post.
A better and dry fast way to treat the lumber is to use seal keret. Apply it to the post until it will not absorb anymore of the seal keret material. Then set post and done. If you apply it the right way you will get 10 plus more years out of your post.

Not sure about that. Ground Water will stay as long as it keeps raining and the post will absorb water up from the bottom.
Good point. If it's wet deep enough in the ground you could get some absorption up.

I would think using motor oil or diesel fuel would give you ground contamination.
I let the fuel soak in and dry thoroughly. I also covered the underground section with a waterproof barrier paint.
The very bottom of the post would be exposed to the ground.
No worse than all the other chemicals in the pressure treated wood. Next time you stain your deck read the Thompson's water seal cautions and ask yourself where all that material goes when the weather washes it off. Or how about your foundation and the waterproofing? The list is ad nauseum

why not water proof the entire post?
Above the ground, the moisture does dry off.
A lot of times in the ground stays wet for long periods of time . I guess you could coat the entire post with the rubber coating but it might not look as nice. The posts are pressure treated so are somewhat impervious to water. The addition of the motor oil also helps.
Sorry brother I believe you're wrong with leaving the bottom open it will just act like a wick and draw moisture up the post if you're going to seal it all
Water will eventually flow down. If the bottom sealed, you do risk the bottom of the post containing water like a cup.

Your right. I think with the rubber barrier painted over most of the in ground section of the post should be pretty safe for the environment?
