I met Gustavo in a cafe in Cape Town this very morning ... 8th January 2024 .. What a delightful man. Full of enthusiasm for music. And very generous in his interest in me as a fellow professional pianist. A very special and memorable conversation. And now I am watching this beautiful film about his life. Gustavo it was a real delight to meet you this morning. Thankyou for stopping by to say hello. I hope we get to meet again. Michael

Listened to him playing a monographic of Rachmaninov tonight in Málaga , Spain. What a BEAUTIFUL MUSICIAN! Sensitive , though powerful playing . Master of the instrument. And I can assure that that particular piano is not an easy, comfortable or rewarding one but he managed to bring a beautiful sound and colors out of It. Thank you Maestro Gustavo for gifting us with such a concert. An absolut pleasure listening to your music.

I went to high school in New York City PCS with him and I even appreciated him improvising on his book in American Literature class.
Now my son plays piano and sings in four languages.

Beautiful …. This musician brought expression and nuance to a very high level as he explored the depths and heights of Franz Schubert last night at Weatherford College….Gustavo Romero let the music flow with such sensitive clarity…. Four sonatas that sort of marked the development of a remarkable composer spanning a decade in his short life in Vienna in the era of Napoleon …. Beethoven, poets Shelly and Keats.. romanticism flowering from seeds sown by Ba😅ch and Mozart… many others…. you might say…. The never ending voyages of discovery…
Romero’s fingers painting ideas…. And thoughts …. And seeing his documentary on line and listening to his explanations…. His love and embrace of this young romantic…. Schubert died at age 31…. Leaving the world enough music to be remembered …. Explored and enjoyed after 200 years….
thanks again to Ms Song for again bringing a remarkable artist to our attention….
When you think you have heard it all…. Some brave soul opens another door… another layer of beauty and understanding is revealed….

At about 17:00 - that’s the influence of the Lhévinnes! 👏🏻 Bravo, Gustavo! 🤗 Stessin also studied with Clarence Adler - so there is also the stamp of Godowsky - and with Jose Iturbi, with all his fire and color.
