The video should use Card Kingdom Prices. It is really bad to see one price posted and a completely different one in CK
I can confirm that they give you the best value for trading in singles (+10% more credit)!
How is you're motto "don't pay mark-ups"? But you're constantly advertising card kingdom, who undoubtedly has the BIGGEST mark-ups on singles.
This will get buried but I want to at least say it in a space you may see it: Prof, I watch the positive videos. I watch nearly everything you put out. The authenticity you make content with and the way you talk about things makes me just want to listen. Do the videos you want to do, we will enjoy the content along the way.
Screw that noise. Doom and Gloom all the way baby! Keep sipping that Haterade!
Yeah I want to see positive videos too! Just make whatever you want Prof, a lot of us watch every video
Same! Some of my favorite videos are the positive ones or the personal talks he has done a couple of times.
I want the professor to play with me
I agree completely with this comment! I can get magic content anywhere now. I'm *here* for The Prof!
I “love” how with this set play boosters have essentially gone back to draft packs, with the lowering of odds for the extra rares, while still keeping an inflated play booster price. Not to mention the fact that pre release kits went up in price again too.
It‘s an absolute disgrace almost nobody is talking about. Makes me loose faith in the magic community. As soon as they published all the changes to play boosters there should have been videos from the big channels discussing how WotC f‘s the players over and over again but people kept quiet. I mean OTJ was a little inflated but you should at least have chances similar to set boosters when you‘re paying this price. WotC just implemented an aggressive price spike while people even „love“ them for it (-> Bloomburrow). The perfect example for a distraction with pretty colors and fancy artworks.
@@fredget Yeah, called it the same with the debut in MKM. EV per box is going to be lower now because these are just draft boxes now. You should be playing limited with these instead of cracking for fun. By all means if you have the cash to do it and want to crack for fun then do it! Have fun! But more so than ever you shouldn't expect to hit anything big.
I think that is by design as Wotc probably wants to push folks into CB boxes instead. Tinfoil hat thoughts probably.
@@fredgetCalling bloomburrow a "distraction" because people actually enjoy the art and gameplay of the set is some real terminally-online magic player brainrot.
@@fredget People are angry and discussing it... have you been living under a rock?
classic unbundling & rebundling product over a few years to operate a massive price hike to sell the same stuff for 30% more. At least the market doesn't seem to support it, as prices for Play Booster boxes have slowly gone down from MKM through OTJ to Bloomburrow. This should cost $100 at most
Ouch, Bloomburrow definitely a set to buy the singles for & not boosters
Every set is, but this even more. But sealed is great so buying booster for some nice draft or pre-release (but after the release) sounds good for me aswell
The thing is booster boxes were at 70 not even that long ago. The booster boxes get more expensive, but the singles don't.
What gets me is that these are basically almost exactly the same as draft boosters, except priced higher for no good reason: Took WotC less than 6 months to forget all about their promises of how play boosters would give you the same rate of rares than set boosters overall if you spend the same and as predicted, it is not only just a price increase now but since set boosters are not available, just a wedge to drive people to buy incredibly overpriced collectors now for *a small chance* (something like 1 in every 36 collector boosters or 3-4 collector boxes at least) at something like a raised foil version or actually getting a decent amount of rares and/or cards that hold any value.
And before anyone mentions it, Standard players used to get these exact rates on draft boosters so they're also paying more for absolutely no reason.
The rates are *insulting* on Bloowburrow play boosters and I'm officially done purchasing any sealed products since I refuse to be forced into a product I don't want: I refuse to start buying collector boxes.
Kind of wonder if the popularity has just made this apparent faster than some of the other sets. Prereleases sold out near me, so would imagine there are more card in circulation faster than with other sets. So we're seeing the month in prices a week in.
The delta between how much fun this set is to draft and how low value the cards are is huge.
Opened a box yesterday and I found myself reading through the cards but also having that feeling of "wow this was not worth the money". The cards are amazing, love the set, but it feels like WotC created play boosters just so they could raise the price of draft boosters without making it super obvious. Wish these things were still in the $100 range.
this is exactly what they did, it was just a price hike
I’m genuinely curious as to the exact argument you’re making… Considering that WOTC very famously does not set an MSRP, and the booster boxes prices are set primarily by market demand, how exactly did they “raise prices”?
@@Muhahahahaz They literally sell the boxes to stores and distributors for some price, so of course they've raised it on play boosters compared to draft boosters to get more profits for Hasbro.
@@Muhahahahaz they raised the prices they charge stores to buy boxes so the stores have to sell the boxes for more. the secondary market dictates the ceiling not the floor. they had MSRP for their products until a few years ago and i'm not sure what you think dropping it has to do with whether or not prices have gone up.
@@Muhahahahaz They don't list MSRP entirely so they can get people like you going "Technically, they never said what the prices are." Not even trying to be offensive, that's the genuine tactic they've been going for here. They know the intended MSRP and I assume retailers know as well, and we're seeing nothing but price increases despite there being nothing to justify those increases. Even on the financial value element, they made sure to lower the odds of pulling Special Guests or The List cards, while shunting all the Imagine Critters into being exclusively in the Collector Booster Boxes, and then making sure their alt arts are only available as the super limited raised foil to further incentivize people spending more and more on overall less. Keep in mind, too, that the number of cards in a pack has dropped by 1. You're paying more for less and that's all WotC and Hasbro care about.
This is a testament to how a set can be amazing and at the same time have little monetary value. They did a great job with the lore, the artwork, and the presentation of the set. Also, the playability of the set is really good.
My box went up in value 20% since this video was released. Worth noting that these prices shown in the video are before release and prices change once demand is actually established.
I know it makes the video longer, but I like these a lot more when you chat while opening.
Hear hear.
Seems like he reserves those for the Collector Booster boxes.
Agreed!
Yeah once I realized there was no monolog I fast forwarded until the last pack.
Yees!
At first I was kinda upset at how little money you were making back but it also occurred to me that therefore, the majority of the set’s singles are very cheap. I am happy with it.
then they playboosters should be priced accordingly, what sort of cope excuse is this? if they put $3 worth of shit in a play booster on average, then they should be worth $3.
More people opening packs for drafts than other past sets (of all time? I feel this is the best set ever made to be honest) means more supply of singles.
But I got $50 bucks of value from $30 prerelease so I can't complain
@DoABarrelRol1l Will people keep drafting as much if the value is terrible?
@@splitloopgaming3523 I agree with this. Just for me who’s just getting into magic I do like that singles are affordable but it is really shitty that people who are purchasing directly from the source or are selling the singles to me aren’t making their money back because wotc wants more money.
@@pw709 Could be wrong but I think people will be drafting more than average because this is such an interesting set to draft. It may not have value but the cards themselves are very fun to play with, much more so than other recent sets
Sometimes WotC publishes pull rates for Play Boosters on their "Collecting" articles...but they didn't with BLB. My theory is that they knew the rates for "booster fun" were so low, that presenting the numbers would just be bleak.
At this point, there are so many sets that come out now that Prof doesn't ever stop playing the booster box game
This was the first set I ever bought a box for, I knew I wouldn't make my money back by any means, but I also knew this set was going to be a good one and had a lot of community hype around it so i thought "why not? If this is supposed to be a great set, I'm sure I'll get some cool and hopefully one or two valubles." i was pretty disappointed afterwards, but hey, you live and you learn, I suppose. Back to singles for the foreseeable future.
Same for me. First, and last, booster box ever. Disappointed, even though I love the art and flavor of this set, and got a few good cards.
This video is like the first sip of an ice cold soda when you were 7 years young coming back from playing outside with friends on a hot summers day. I just love bloomburrow and i love the boosterbox game
Bloomburrow feels like the set that's addressing a lot of problems people have had for a while. The power level feels a little lower which is great because we've been complaining about power creep, and people have been complaining about the focus on Commander for a long time and Bloomburrow feels amazing for Standard. It's a great set, really feels like what Magic needed right now.
man i thought my box was a little bad but i feel better watching the poor prof getting over 29 dollars in 36 boosters
That's about where my value was.
Same. I got hosed in both my booster box and bundle.
It feels so good though
@@dbarenski not to loose that much money. I mean 139.99 is about my gasoline amount per month. I'd rather have that than jank cards.
To add even more to the "buy singles" chorus, according to a moxfield list I found, if you were to buy one of every single card in the set, it would be $180, only $40 more than ONE booster box! Buy singles for sure, especially here!
I unapologetically adore how every set cost keeps increasing while every rare continues to be valued at 14 cents.
We truly live in blessed times.
youll get that occasional 2-6 dollar rare, but sheesh this was hard to watch (and easy to pass on buying packs)
Maybe i'm a dumbass, but that isn't really the fault of the set itself... considering the singles/second hand market technically has nothing to do with WotC. Unless they start printing just absolutely nuts cards for a particular format that is.
@@ArCSelkie37but it kinda does, wotc decides what will be reprinted and often times doesnt reprint cards so the second hard market will have higher prices
but thats not what the point of this comment was, its that the price:market value ratio is wayy too low
that's what happens when you release a set every single month, your standard format can't progress naturally so only very few cards from every set ends up in meta decks and everything else becomes bulk.
Also, if you get a rare that is worth anything, it will be reprinted 10 times the next two years, reducing it to pennies worth...
I appreciate the Music being added at the bottom left of the video when it changes, that was cool
Let's all just say it, "these new play boxes are @#$%".
I know that everyone is entitled to their opinion and don't fault anybody for liking things like Thunderjunction and Universes beyond but can I just say that it feels incredibly refreshing to see a set like this, where its just Magic without any pop culture, memey reference behind it? God I love Bloomburrow so much, I'm gonna draft this set until my eyes burn and then go back to my cave and not think about Magic until the next set that I like comes out 😁
Draft for this is set is so, so awesome. You are really encouraged to stay in your lane once you've found it, but since everyone is likely doing the same, you end up with these sweet highly synergistic decks. Some may find it a little prescriptive, but I have an absolute blast seeing what these little guys can do when they work together.
I love how most of the types can intersect with each other in certain ways, like squirrels can use the surveil/mill in black from rats to feed forage, or the otters can deal damage for lizards.
It's one of the most feast or famine sets I've ever drafted, if ya don't get your signpost cards ya get totally wrecked
I’ve only been doing Sealed so far (mostly on Arena, though I did go to one physical prerelease), and even then it’s amazing
I think my favorites so far have just been mini-value engines that tip the scales in my favor when the board state stalls out in the late game
For instance, in one game I was playing a White/Green deck, and I had Whiskervale Forerunner + Innkeeper’s Talent out in the late game, and just kept putting free 2-3 mana creatures into play until they conceded lol
(The latter is a class that puts a +1/+1 counter on one of your creatures at the beginning of your combat, whereas the former has Valiant and looks at your top 5 cards for a 3 drop or less. If it’s your turn, you may put it directly on the battlefield. Otherwise, it goes to your hand
Long story short, just keep targeting Whiskervale Forerunner with Innkeeper’s Talent to trigger Valiant every turn)
I absolutely love drafting this set. I usually try and go for lizards, if I can. I love my little dudes. They may have 2 brain cells, but they are SO CUTE
I found it pretty funny that after showing my commander only friend some standard gameplay, he put on your shuffle up and play standard video next and enjoyed it too. So, thanks for that video, and everything you do. You truly are an inspiration
That first box was painful. Might have been the lowest regular box you had ever since you started the Booster Box Game.
Man even the second box was painful, if he hadn't opened the first the second would've been ridiculous. Actually it is, hence the first is so much worse even. That happening twice is just showing us everything!
Welcome to Bloomburrow.

I watch most of your videos, but my favs are the Tolarian Tutors. As a (former) magic judge, watching YOU teach helps teach me to teach them! Plus sometimes you(r writer) says things that really make it click for me!
Oh yeah Bloomborrow is a set. I feel like by the time I learned the names of the cards in the previous set the next one is already out.
My LGS is charging $190. It's not great.
EDIT: I watch the positive stuff you put out!! It feels good seeing you get excited about this stuff and praising it.
I really enjoyed the editing in this video, especially the noises added for "high value" pulls. I am multitasking while watching and the audio cues let me know when to pay attention! Props to the editor!
Your tears are our smiles since we did not have to play the booster box game to find out. Thank you for finding out for us. Again and again.
i cant wait to see the professors review when value boosters come out, what was wotc thinking seriously
Yes! Its the first product where it genuinely might not have anything worth over $2!
It’s meant to be bought by people who don’t know better. Likely sold at Dollar stores and Walmart with the target consumers being impulse buyers and people who don’t know much about Magic.
It’s the most predatory product I’ve ever seen and I hope it fails.
The good news is that most of the value is tied to the alternate art anime style or some of the commander cards. The basic and even some alt art versions are relatively cheap.
The bad news is that means there’s barely any double digit value in the play boosters. You got more or less the top end cards with Three Tree and Innkeeper. It would be nice to see play booster boxes to lower in price to be more affordable, but each set will have different highs and lows depending on what’s in the set…
(Kinda remind me how everything is cheap for the base versions of Pokémon cards, but the special art is high high price.)
I know the counter is only including cards that (im guessing) can be re-sold at his local store for any value, but a seperate counter totalling all prices for these types of videos would be awesome!
I enjoy seeing the prof smiling and happy! Hoping for some positive videos in the near future!
Just wanted to say I love your positive content, your passion and authenticity really shows. Your unabashed love for this game is honestly what got me back into after being a pure cynic towards anything WotC for years. Not happy with a lot of aspects of Magic but you helped show me how to love it again. Thank you Professor
This set is easily the most popular standard set to come out in years. My LGS sold out of ALL bloomburrow product on pre-release weekend.
More demand for a print to demand set means more supply.
More supply means the average card price goes down.
Buy singles people.
Honestly I opened 2 boxes myself of Bloomburrow and I love the set so much I didn't even care how low the value was, I thoroughly enjoy the design so much I just wanted to have the cards.
me too. I'll probably buy one more too
I would like to see a token pack included in box sets for this. It was disappointing to not get all the different tokens in my box set and boosters.
Professor, you are a net positive, a force for good and what made me join this gathering after 15 years of not playing! ❤ Never let them bring you down to their level.
WotC/Hasbro are cashing out. They're seeing the writing on the wall, that Magic is in decline, and they want to profit while they still can. Stores have been closing, and what events are left in my area are mainly Commander, some Modern, while Pioneer, Standard and Drafts are dead.
They must've been in the cash out process ever since 2019 then
It is not uncommon to have five (plus) year plans. However, I wish fans could buy it and turn it into a co-op.
Hey prof do whatever content makes you the happiest I like the positive videos, the sarcastic, the angry. All of them are engaging to me and I appreciate them all.
This set brought me back after a year or so, it's so much fun! I played both sealed prereleases at guardian Saturday before last, and everyone was just having a great time.
I completely agree on your assessment of bloomburrow. It just sucks so much that the coolest set in the last few years is completely tainted by Wizards horrific anti-consumer shrinkflation decision making
Who else knew the outcome before watching the video?
Here's the thing: I loved the art so much that I enjoyed the process of opening packs and looking at cards more than basically any other set I've played recently.
Also? I, uh, wanna build a Bloomburrow set cube, and I much more enjoy the process of cracking packs than I do of putting each individual card in an online shopping cart...
I am also trying to build a set cube of Bloomburrow! I'm curious, are you doing the 3 of every common, 3 of every uncommon, and 1 of every rare that the professor suggested in his set cube video?
@@TheSimicScientist I do 4 commons for the cube itself, but depending on the draft, I've experimented with slotting an additional rare into the packs, especially since a lot of rares are kind of narrow in their application.
Feels like I’m watching an opening of Thunder Junction: none of the cards have any value, not even the foils. Still love the set, can’t wait to get my pre-cons
Thunder Junction has some of the highest values? Especially with the Big Score.
Which precons did you order? I quite like the look of Squirreled Away but I’ll wait for the next 2 batches of Commander Precons before I order. Hopefully that price tag will drop
My playgroup drafted both sets and I managed to break even and beyond with Outlaws, while Bloomborrow got us ONE borderless mythic in 9 packs. Huge disappointment.
@@dericplummer9272 tbh I just opened a bundle box with 9 packs. I opened 1 $25 card and then the rest were $0.01 according to TCGPlayer. I love the look of them, they just aren’t valuable online for some reason.
@@Reelion I’m glad your Outlaws luck was better than mine! Hopefully I get something good with Bloomburrow.
In Canada they're 210, which is 150+ usd. 120 usd is actually closer to a draft booster box at 165 cad.
Honestly play boosters feel pretty bad compared to set boosters, I have pretty much bought 1 or 2 boxes per set since mh2 and since playboosters started I have actually regretted it feels like you either buy a collector box or your're doomed to get nothing but garbage.
Unbelievable first box
My playgroup and I bought 4 Play Booster boxes, and one guy brought 2 old Draft booster boxed of Strixhaven and Phyrexia all will be one.
The friend with the Draft boxes pulled better overall than we with our play booster boxes. Not only value vise but also more Mythics per box and better variation of Commons and Uncommons.
Our Bloomburrow boxes were weirdly seeded. I had one rare 5 times and 2 uncommons were missing!
Love those LA Beast vibes on the start of box #2
Bloomburrow is an AMAZING SET!!! First one I'm seriously going to try collecting all the normal cards from since New Capenna.
That said, 55$ for a bundle at Walmart. At 9 packs, that's just over 6$ per pack plus the potpourri. That's a bit pricey for me, def going to buy singles to fill out the set
I scored one for $40 and even that was bad in terms of value. Lol
you should be able to get a bundle at an lgs or tcgplayer for like 40 dollars.
I'll watch that video! This is certainly the set I've been most excited for maybe ever, and after pre-release and draft I love it even more.
Since Friday I have gotten 3 box sets as a gift to myself for some recent achievements. First time I ever purchased box sets. I bought the first two together then the 3rd separately.
The first one I cracked open was definitely the anomaly, had Sword of Fire and Ice, Three Tree City, all the high priced and desirable cards. I was hyped to see what the second box had to offer. It had much less excitement than the first box did, but still a half-decent haul.
I bought the 3rd one, thinking the 2nd box I bought might just be a lemon box, when the 3rd was the absolute worst out of the three.
Ultimately, I knew the risks of buying Booster Boxes because overall, the system is rigged, but I truthfully bought the boxes with the sole idea of simply enjoying the pack-cracking. That little bit of adrenaline when you defy the odds and pull a great card is nice. I now have a handful of commander-worthy cards and plenty of Bloomburrow Rares, UC's, and Commons to make a couple low-end decks. But yes, do not ever buy booster boxes hoping for a profit. Buy singles.
Edit: Also, I bought all of these from my local card store, so each had a hefty markup. Even so, and the boxes did not hold up to the purchase, I feel like I supported my local card shop, so I feel pretty good about my purchase at the end of the day.
You actually will do a better job of supporting your local store by buying singles rather than sealed product. Markup on sealed boxes is around ten percent, singles have a much higher profit margin.
I’m glad you feel like you supported them and didn’t get taken to hose town by WOTC and your local dealer. Gotta get that fix get hyped for product and consume more product. Good job and thank you from the stakeholders.
You'll hear a bunch of bad takes, but it sounds like you got exactly what you wanted out of it. Mature way to interact with any product. Good on ya, glad ya had fun, hope ya have more. ❤
@@billable1861 Grow up.
It only feels like the booster box game really begins when Future Cha Cha comes on 😂
Everyone in the comments: great cards that are inexpensive is exactly what we want!
Honestly let's not get too hung up on box returns this set brought a good amount of fun options for commander, one of the best draft experiences for awhile and almost every archetype in this set is a decent standard deck that is cheap to play which helps a lot of new players that can play silly little critters for a good standard time without worry and I think that's the right direction
Bloomburrow is reigniting my love for MtG
Bloomburrow is what got me into magic!

@@estellairon9448instead of rates being at the back of the pack they're now right up front when you open them. It may not be a problem if you flip it over but I do agree they should have kept the rares where they were.

The cards also feel slightly different. Different paper used, maybe?
@@xxPenjoxx that's interesting, it could be different card stock or prints.
Love to see a bloomburrow video about what your favorite cards are ans why
I like how prof says Three tree visits cost 17.99$ and sponsor of the day sells it for 39.99$
Card kingdom always has higher prices for singles
Prof uses lowest prices, not those from his sponsor.
This is the first set since zendikar. I've wanted to open collectors boxes. Didn't have much to argue when collctors boxes weren't much more than set boosters, considering my planned budget***
How dare you gaslight me at 11:46? I damn well did watch that Shuffle Up & Play!

It’s a great set, though better to buy singles. I agree it’s the best standard set since Neon Dynasty
Idk I liked lci the most in recent times.
I know nobody's gonna see this but having my favorite set (Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty) be profs pick for previous best set makes me unreasonably happy
I'd watch a video titled "Bloomburrow is the best set ever" I love confirming my biases!
I always love the positivity and the flair you bring to each video Prof. You’re truly a bright shining light of positivity
Maybe if standard existed in a healthy way there would be more demand for these cards
The music eased the pain, much like having a chilled playlist while having teeth removed. Lovely set but sheesh.
Also is there a channel music playlist anywhere, would love to check out more recommended artists!
Ohhhh was filmed on my birthday nice 👍
Thought I had a bad box but now I get it. My best pulls were rottenmouth and lumra. couple other neat cards I can use but not worth the money of the box
My lgs has bloomburrow boxes for $160 and collectors for $260
Same it's so bad. I pay weiss schwarz as well and they charge 90 a box. Most are only 60 on release.
iiisssshhhhh 😣 don't pay that
So glad i managed to scrounge an innkeepers talent before people realized it is just 2 enchants in one and you get a counter doubler in the end on top of cheap protection. LGS is 30 CAD now. The filming must have been a day before spike
He does mention the date to be Aug 2 when filmed at the start of the video.
With play boosters it pretty much Three Tree City or bust.
Regardless of actual card value, the inclusion of ALL full art lands made me feel like I was opening more playables than ever before. Amazing decision WotC, please keep it up in the future!
lmao, a couple full art lands offsets the pricing being 3-5 times the value of the cards? the cope in this video is real. wotc should not be praised for this. Fun set, yes. Criminal pricing and we should be pissed.
The prices will go up over time. Just need more card synergy and tribal in the future

Bloomburrow is definitely the best set. Love it ❤
I've been playing Magic for 30 years, and from an EV standpoint, this set has the worst boxes I've ever opened. Lost 80% of my money.
That's why you buy singles
It doesn’t help that since so many people are into this set, even the cards that should be more expensive are cheap because of the massive amount of them getting pulled.

I mean this in the nicest way but I am glad someone like you got that first box so you can showcase it and stop so many on tight budgets not go out and spend a large sum on these boxes! As a newcomer to magic, if I bought that box I would have been very deterred to keep up the hobby. That felt like a daylight robbery! The pull rates seem so low and there is no guaranteed pull rates, is this what it is always like with this product?
it's interesting how many of these cards are actually worth more 3 weeks later than at release. I total things out to about $79 right now if we only count things worth more than a dollar. Maybe it was the theme of the set or just the subtle power of the cards that had people skeptical and that's why they were only "discovered" after people got the chance to play with them.
Please do a video of why bloomburrow is a good set. I’m not just here for the negativity. I enjoy your perspective and take on all things magic, good and bad
I pulled a raised foil in the one collector's booster box i bought. That one card alone paid for the box with interest. For value, the playboosters are only for draft.
Glad we have such an affordable set for beginners and veterans to enjoy without breaking the bank, honestly refreshing after stuff like MH3.
