The close in shots of his face, especially where he only clenches his jaw the slightest bit and squints his eyes only slightly, are the sign of an expert actor. I read the James Clavell novel back in the 1970s and after seeing only the first three episodes of this series, I am very pleased with what they have produced. 😉

This show finally captured the spirit of interpretation. Thank you. From mariko never interpreting faithfully, culture clashing, and most especially in the scene with the Portuguese interpreter…this is what our interpreter vocation feels like. I love when they have dialogue in “ two languages, but one conversation”. That is the feeling of “clicking” when two speakers forget the language and focus on talking to each other. No one else has done it right until now.

A great interview with fab and well researched questions. Cosmo is so sweet. He is mega talented and a brilliant actor who has worked his way up through the music and Indie film scene since the age of 16 without any formal or classical training, and he gives so much of himself to everything that he does. He is usually very nervous and awkward in interviews, so initially I was nervous watching this for him, but thrilled to see that he appears to be getting more comfortable with it. Persuasion wasn't his best moment, but that wasn't his fault - the adaptation was awful, and he just wasn't right for the part. He is a dude's dude - nothing gender confused about him, so I knew that the part of John Blackthorne was going to be right up his street. He was fantastic in Calm With Horses and also very good in Lady MacBeth. Yes, I'm a fan. Hopefully this is now his moment to really shine, be noticed and continue to get the big parts in the big productions because he so deserves it. The overall production of Shogun looks amazing and is getting so many justified rave reviews. Well done to everybody!
