Project Zomboid is an open-world isometric survival horror video game in development by British and Canadian independent developer The Indie Stone. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic, zombie-infested world where the player is challenged to survive for as long as possible before inevitably dying.
'Til Death Us Do Part was a story included in Project Zomboid as its own game mode. It served as the tutorial to introduce new players to the basic concepts of Project Zomboid, like base fortification, scavenging, and fending off hostile undead and survivors.
In 2013, 'Til Death Us Do Part was removed from the game, along with NPC survivors, with the release of version RC 2.9, due to NPCs being far too buggy. The Indie Stone did not abandon the story and have stated they still have big plans for NPCs and the story of Bob and Kate. - Hry

I remember the first time I experienced a Metagame event:
*Building fences around my base, the farmhouse in western West Point*
*Hear automatic gunfire*
*Ignore, keep hammering*
*Hear blood-curdling woman scream*
*Nervously hammers faster*
Ive heard it so much, but hearing a gunshot or a scream still startles me; reminding me that Im not truly alone.
For some reason these event attract zomboids to my base, a horde. Eventhough i live in the lake in the middle of a forest

Sometimes you can find a house with open window. If you check inside the house, there'll be a scant number of loot. Kinda implies that there are other survivor out there.
Realistically, such houses should be very common

This is also the case for survivor houses although they weren’t immune to the first wave of the airborne infection
One time in my first ever play-through I found a survivor house with a Katana in it

I love that lore:) the other day I found a zombie with a backpack and strong clothes and a weapon! They clearly lost that battle- but I was like “oh no, a former survivor!”
NPCs would be such a huge game changer eventually; there's only so much you can do by yourself, and automating some processes would be really nice, like gathering firewood, tending crops, etc. It would let the player achieve the things they want to do mid-late game after every tool has been gathered, like build the base itself, decorate things, etc.
I think it's going to be much more then that. certain skills pre apocalypse will be a massive bone to your camp. If someone was a metal worker, then if you can get the old power in the metal mill, you can produce great quality weapons. People dying will be so much harder to bare, as new survivors are born without the skills of pre apocalypse, the machines of the old world will become near magic and be unable to be used. I don't think it would be worth it for survivors you group up with to do grunt work like firewood gathering and stuff, instead organized warriors and gathers will set out. The risk is to great that the guy who knows how to repair and make new car parts will get attacked by zombies or other people and now your only advantage of having faster and better cars is gone. I can see so much possibility. Hopefully the game will lean towards 'people are more useful alive then dead'
State of decay comes into mind, but hopefully it'll be better than that.
There is a mod that adds NPCS to the game called "Superb Survivors". I recommend it!
Most people don't realize or utilize it, but by choosing load game and clicking 'more' you can create multiple characters in the same world and switch between in the same load screen. When I have a well established base I tend to add a new character (who is rather weak) start them somewhere new and try to reach the safe house. Once there they are the "caretaker" and can be switched to every few days to water crops, fuel generators and maybe check traps. The other character is frozen in time meanwhile. You can even have one character save another in a tight spot. The only limitation in my mind is that they can't be in the same car and be transported. Give it a try, as good or better than NPCs.
@@thatromanfella8377in the way I explained you can have multiple characters specializing in certain skills: raider, builder, farmer/cool etc unfortunately NPCs won't be in PZ for a long time.
NPCs are build 43, but the framework for them is build 42. Just so people know!
I think B42 will add simple animal NPCs, which will be upgraded further when B43 comes out with human NPCs.
Animals NPCs will still make me wish I was alone. Imagine the mischief they can get into.

Did you make sure your base is safe from zomboids?
Careful those events could lead zomboids to your base so make sure to stay prepared

I love playing the game lore/roleplay-ish as it makes it feel much more alive and enjoyable, make yourself an objective to find the remnants of past survivors or listen to the radio for the first days of infection, using mods like the one you can escape on a helicopter or maintain the AEBS.
I truly believe there is no other game like PZ out there, and no other game that would make me feel like PZ does.
Honestly I really like the atmosphere of being alone. I played on multiplayer with a friend for quite a while, and when I started a solo run again, the feeling of never having anyone to ever watch your back really keeps the tension high.
Though, I’m often skeptical with big updates in games, and I’m still often impressed by the result. I’m sure the devs will do a good jon
The disembodied phantom noises are almost scarier than the infected.
Honestly I disagree but a evil person with a gun is much more of a individual threat (disregarding the world effect of a zombie)

Also, given when you make a new character in the same world.. You are that other survivor, just missing your past self by mere moments. So technically you're not alone in the world.
That's the way I always saw it.
to be fair, Bob is sometimes missing in the safehouse (RNG), so he might still be alive...
Maybe in b43 we'll be able to help bob and Kate if we make it to their safe house fast enough.
I do hope that they keep the option to be in the world without NPCs. The premise of you being the only man or woman in the world against countless zombies is something I adore.
If they dont, I am 110% confident a mod will be made to remove NPCs.
But no doubt, it'll be a setting in mp to disable npcs too.

My personal experience . Once I got lost and ended up in the some kind of country club North of rosewood , my home base. While I was there I realized this place had a shit ton of supplies and decided to stay for a while. The first 2 nights were fine , but the 3rd night shit hit the fan. While I was sleeping I heard a loud bang and a crack which scared me irl. I went out to investigate but found nothing. When I went back to sleep I heard a gunshot. The next morning I woke up half the room I was in had burned, it was a miracle I survived. I went out and found the whole estate had been scorched by a fire. Still have no idea what caused the fire to spread coz the night before it was raining. This game is fking horror game if u play alone. Absolute masterpiece
Theory. Someone tried to burn the place you were sleeping down with a molotov, but failed. The crashing was the sound of them attempting to break in, but they ran off when they heard you coming to investigate. Deciding you were too dangerous, they chucked a molly in hopes of finishing you off with fire.
What's going to be crazy is our characters we've been grinding for years running into their first NPCs... The first unturned face they've seen in months or years in game...

Imagine if there were traits built around npcs, like for example your character gets sick around people or gets anxious, maybe it's so bad that you either have to kill them or live alone, and maybe even the complete opposite, good traits that help you work with others, maybe you could have an npc help you do things faster.
Maybe this could also work for the multi-player, so if 2 people work at it it works faster and like that incentivice teamwork.
I remember when I start playing I heard for the first time a shot gun in the distance and ran to it to find someone, also when I found the survivors house and I thougth that there were actually other survivors as npcs, in the end I prefer the game that way, I like that feeling of loneliness and when it seems that you will find someone else at the end of the road you're still alone
NPCs are a build 43 feature. Not build 42. So they are quite a ways away.
But yeah. You are not the last Surviver. And the most compelling evidence for that is - No matter how many survivers met their end with you as their witness, you are basically one click away from finding another soul trying to survive...
Really miss npcs; it just doesn't feel the same without them. I appreciate what the modders do but unfortunately even with small updates mods tend to break =/

@@Fella12366 If by "matter" you mean "justify", then no, not at all. This game has been in production for about 14 years. At this point any changes that break backward compatibility of the save files of all things just show how lousy those devs are at their job. If it turns out to be true, this is your answer on issue of NPCs right here.

when i was playing once, i was walking though a huge forest and right in my vision behind me i saw ehm uhh "something" following me, but when i looked nothing was there
In my current world I heard gunshots then a woman scream followed by more gunshots and I actually found nearby a survivor event of a dead woman being eaten after having taken down a few zeds. I killed the remaining zombies and buried her. Also had a gun on her corpse. Made it seem like I was just too late to save her.
I've been a supporter since the pre-denuvo days, I remember the old NPCs that got scrapped. It was kinda neat to walk into the grocery store I wanted to raid only for a shotgun wielding raider to scream at me and almost shoot me.
I once found a house with 4-5 what looked like survivors. They didn’t look like they turned and inside the house was a zombie with a hockey mask and a machete in his back. I’m not sure if this was all a coincidence or a Jason Voorhees reference

Im convinced that the helicopter its from a news network, since it doesn't attack you or the zombies, it flies around the city for serveral hours like searching for something (An exclusive?) and it will focus on you if it sees you. I mean, a whole city of the dead and there's still a living human down there running for his life with a Molotov in one hand and a can of pasta in the other? Top news :)

I wonder why other survivors never approach your base to ask for help or to raid you. Maybe seeing you singlehandedly clear entire hordes and put together fortifications they decide you're too op to mess with.

Tbf there are hints of survivors before they get got. I remember finding two houses with dead survivors, one of them are well barricaded but one guy became a zombie and eat them and another get raided and destroyed by a horse of zombies.
the music in the beginning gave me kerbal space program PTSD
Though feeling alone but when it fog or snow(not so much to the storm/heavy rain maybe just slight rain or medium rain) and you are staying on your base(And you give time taking care of it like building something) , it will feel cozy that being alone can make for a great moment in the game.
I hope when they do add survivor npc that they keep them rare, I think something would be lost if they were to common, I like that something would be lost
I was cooped up in my house, stocked up on food and leveling up with some books and the Life and Living Channel, when i heard a scream from outside. It reminded me of the ambience sounds from Half Life 2's Ravenholm, and it really drives home how the outbreak must be for everyone else
i don't believe the military base bunker contains survivors, i believe that bunker is where the virus was being studied. look at the base: a few dog cages, 2 medical rooms that hold the same or less equipment than a school nurse's office in this game, a tiny armory for how hard it is to just get there, and how far it is into the woods suggest to me that the base likely wasn't meant to be noticed pre-event. there's not even a good road to get there! it's like they didn't want civilians to go there or know about it.
extrapolating from that, i reckon the base was researching diseases/bioweapons and had a containment breach. not a big one, just enough to infect one of the staff. they go home, feel sick, and then turn before they can call in sick the next day. their shambling corpse goes and bites a neighbor, and we all know the end result. initial progress of the virus would be slow, but due to exponential growth that progress would ramp pretty quickly (as one zombie can infect multiple people). in the lore the military knew pretty fast and started blocking off the roads around the county to try to contain it. how? well our patient zero wouldn't be the only one infected in a containment breach. the base probably called in they had one, but it was contained to the base due to its remote nature, not knowing that someone had gone home while infected.
"Thanks for finally saving us. Yeah, those vials over there, some like it caused this whole thing. Why are you pointing a gun at us?"
It would be so cool to play a story mode as someone in the military (like a squad looking for survivors).
Idk project zomboids gameplay doesn’t really fit a story mode imo
Instead of a storymode, just roleplay it (there is a setting in mp settings that allows you to give you clothing such as military gear before spawning, but not weapons)

Closed captions tried really hard to get the mumbled radio broadcast voice, and did a reasonably good job.
Found a monster horde hanging out in the broom closet of the FD in Rosewood, like 12 came pouring out.
I think build 42 is mainly animal NPCs i think human npcs will be build 43 or 44 but great video

My theory for the helicopter is it’s the military trying to bring as many zombies as possible into Kentucky before they blow up the Ohio river bridge. What better bait then a loud chopper and the immune.

I thought about making a PZ video in a vhs style. A Russian aircraft flys overhead spying on a laboratory before the initial infection. They report some things that seem like nothing too serious just guards patrolling and scientists walking in and out. Then it cuts to a soldier running from the facility being chased by 4 people. The aircraft watches the man fire at the attackers before being eaten alive by them.
Well, if you're character die's and you make another character and come back to the same place your previous character dies will it zombiefid+ you will still see your old base
Your character is never alone. Your character is just a puppet to be thrown away once you screw up and replace them with another one.
What if the Emergency Broadcast System is from the lower parts of the military base that are currently unaccessible?

love this game. but it feels like there is no use to build a solid base if you cant defend/get raided anyway. would be nice ( might go over the top here ) to assign survivors to roles like ''guard / farmer / fisher / cook ( lets throw in all the professions ) and have some assigned as looters etc'' but i have no experience in coding/modding so i dont know how much im asking exactly

turn on youtube subtitles on the voices from project zomboid and you will know that they are only talking about kids and food.
Npc is going to be huge game changer, modders can use their ai to actually revamp the game making many different scenario possible.
I was in this sandbox mode, I turn zombie spawn off and proceed making muldraugh safe again, killed every single zombie in it and completely wall it, basically becoming safe zone however the world still empty and I am alone it's very sad, you can only distract yourself for so long, eventually the realization always come that this is the end times, no one else out there, losing hope because you're alone is worse than fighting hordes of zombie, that realization of you're screwed there is no light in the end of the tunnel really make you lose interest for anything.

one day, as usual, I was killing zombies on the territory of my base and began to rest and at night, lighting everything around, nothing happened, but one of the trees in the distance began to move, I thought it was a zombie. The next day I walked around and realized that the corpses had disappeared, but the blood remained in place as before. This bothered me, because there were about 5 corpses and every single one of them was not there... Can you write? Is this some kind of in-game event?
you probably have learned the answer yourself since this comment is old - but no, its not a metagame event - corpses decay and disappear after a while ingame. i also think tree shaking is not uncommon, not necessarily always a zombie, but i could be wrong. i intrepret it as forest critters running around

I wish there were npc's with actual settlements where u could trade and stay for some time. Game is pretty good as it is but for me it gets boring. Settlements would be something really fun. There could be quests like get some fuel for generator or specific parts or something.
every brodcast in the game is not a sign of survivors i check some of locations from brodcast in first day before any bad news about this locations and they all are after the last event from brodcast that means all brodcasts are set as automatic only helicopter event and sound effect events is sign of survivors in the game but evryone in game is really carefull about show to players expect helicopters they are horny about look at player
