@SeoulfredRay you mean youtube viewers??
Whatever he did. It worked and that's that. We've seen shittier channels with higher viewer numbers with almost no content.
So? Hard work paid off
*Featuring an Oscar winning performance by Linus Sebastian*
No way he's happy about AMD doing anything positive.
bold = gulag you 10 year old bold user get back to the stones
The only actor to win an Oscar and a Razzy for the same performance.
Ha ha cool opening....RIP NCIX. So many good times and great deals. Wednesday at 9pm Pacific was always en EVENT.
To the people complaining about Linus didn't activate Windows:
Why bother activating Windows on their test bench when you are constantly changing the CPU and motherboard which will deactivate it if it ever even is activated. Gotta reinstall it anyways for major hardware changes. They typically just run benchmarks then probably change it or take apart the bench so that is a waste of a key
Yeah you would just have to keep reactivating, and I think it has 100 swaps before the key has been used too much, so they would need to buy another key anyways.
He made a video where he shows that he has the keys for the installs, should legal issues pop up.
He made a whole video on why he doesn't activate it.
Just Do It The Illegal Way
ive had a pc for 4 years and ive never installed windows, i have a product key just never had a reason to, with windows 10 its pretty much just a scam/watermark remover
I see they added a handle so Linus can't drop it as easily🙂
Handle or no handle he woulda find a way to drop it somehow. I bet they glued the box to his hand
That's what happens when you're one of the most influential tech people on the internet.
He isn't Jay
Between Jay and Linus both, it is a wonder they don't send flashy models to hold the products. that way, NOTHING gets dropped by EITHER. they are both VERY influential, but, both clumsy as hell some days. happens to us all, but, WE are not being recorded all the time.. ;) i LIKE the idea of sending reps to hold shit, flashy or not. safer that way. cheaper too... lol
@@jamesdunlop8629 lol
Linus just low-key flexing on us with that intro.
Nothing low key about it.. cringed hard.
mike bob Nah, it's pretty cringey. Right on par for Linus...
lmao. No way, that was a terrible delivery of arrogance. I admire what he has built but don't envy or find myself jealous of him personally. :)
The most likely scenario is you have psychopathic tendency (low or nil empathy) and see that type of flaunting behavior appropriate. Or just wanna suck his rooster. :D
Have a good day.
Benjamin Williams bro it was a great intro. Also realize that he doesn't do any of the writing on this show. Everything is done by his production team. Which means if he is not writing the intro there is no narcissism in the intro.
Hey! He earned that spot. No denying that, i'll watch more videos. Just couldn't watch the end of this one. Spewed in my mouth a bit. Maybe he should proof read it? Really, blame the production team? What a ridiculous insinuation to make.

@@qwerty6789x Wouldn't 2990WX byte the dust after such rigs like SuperMicro X10DRI-LN4+-O with 2x Xeons and support of 3 Tb RAM or Asus ESC8000 G3 with 4x Xeons and 1,5 Tb RAM support? I don't mention up to 16 GPU for the latter rig to render with Octane, Redshift, VRay Next or alike render while running like 20-30 virtual machines the same time for the reason I even cannot imagine. Or the decision whispers "Ypu're a pauper more then Mr Pancake with his £500 CPU against yours £1200, so, go on with threadripper", doesn't it? intel sold us 4 core 8 thread cpus for almost 10 years at the same price point with little to no performance gain from generation to generation, but the moment AMD made a processor with competitive single core performance and good power consumption, the started innovating like we were back in the early 2000s, and AMD is literally throwing cores at us like they're tic tacs, and i love it, when 6 cores 12 threads becomes the new common minimum standard, and higher core counts are more wide spread, software developer will have to take advantage of the newly available horse power ans we will surely get some amazing software out of it
Tarek Al-Shawwa 4 cores 4 threads actually...
Yeah, Intel fans are still debating if 4 threads are still enough for playing games, which I agree...
But enough is not ideal.
they still can't use full 4 cores and 8 threads (developers)
i'm referring to the first generation processors that came out starting with the i7 920, then the 2600k, etc etc up until the 6700k and 7700k
because basically no one owned anything more powerful than that until the past year, if the hardware isn't widespread then no one will optimize for it, but that's going to change after all content creators and gamers adopt processors like the ryzen 1600, 1700, 1800x, 2600, 2700, 2700x, and the intel 8700k
Linus you forgot to mention your lambo
lambo kinda got destroyed at LTX. He is replacing it now unfortunately.
Wait Does he actually have a lambo?
yup
noo it's the name he gave to his pink car
Fluffy Shark ah yes. I remember when I was new too.
Threadripper is not for gaming but for productivity, so just ignore those fanboy kids who still bragging about " *MY I7 4770K IS 5 FPS FASTER THAN AMD 2990WX !!!!!* "
Ernest Jay hold on, hold on
.
F*ck yeah...
This is a correct and accurate statement! Those single core apps take less than a minute to render witch is completely irrelevant, in fact the only reason they are single core oriented is only because they are so easy to render, you yourself are irrelevant and along with your thinking, the way you prioritize and your lack of knowledge... good day sir!
But if you spend most of your time rendering in Maya and or Blender (Using Mental/Arnold/Cycles or Vray), like I do for a living, single core speed doesn't matter much, if at all...Rendering isn't only based around Adobe products there are far more use-cases than just Premiere or After Effects. Animators and 3D Artists like myself use software that can take full advantage of those number of cores. And usually people who buy these kind of CPUs don't spend too much of their time editing in Premiere, they have Intel Editing Stations (Usually Overclocked) for that.
All name calling aside...
Buy the right CPU for your job or intended use...It doesn't matter how fast Intel is if my Maya Renders still take 40 minutes per frame to render.
Intel is Good for Adobe, I can agree with that...But right now for everybody else who needs that horse power Intel is irrelevant...(Unless they lower their Prices) or up their core count. Don't base your whole argument around Adobe Products, there are many many many more use cases, that people don't even benchmark on CZcams.
Well speaking regarding premiere. I just picked up one of these new threadrippers through a friend who works for amd and although the benchmarks make my top of the line Intel system that's built identially except for mobo socket and a few insignificant parts like cases, different brand liquid cooling pumps and fans, and an extra Blu-ray burner doesn't- im both surprised and somewhat disappointed that the flagship of Intel's cpus is actually NOT AS FAST IN REAL LIFE USE. What the hell? And this is pretty surprising as I spent the better part of 2 days running different single core bemchmarks (amongst a gauntlet of other different tests and hardware configs and different over/under clocking/volting) and by all means my Intel flagship appears to slap the crap (maybe not quite but is considerably better in almost all the tests I've run) out of the new AMD threadripper 2 32core. (And in the off chance that the GPU setup could be changing things I ran several different benchmarks with a variety of stock and non stock amd and Nvidia gpus - including both consumer hi end and flagship as well as pro workstation amd pros and quadros in addition to the identical setups I started with - which consisted of one AMD and one nividia setup.) Sorry but it's just a fact at this point on virtually everything (besides a handful of programs that were almost to close to call and all relied HEAVILY on single core performance and we're extrely large and resourse hogging- and will soon to be replaced with multithread/core utilizing versions as they are behind the times on that considering the resources they consume and fompetojg applications availiable) that the amd comes out ahead almost every time. I'm almost completely baffled by this but I guess it shows one thong- bencarcks don't nessicarily mean everything and if you do plan on using them they should be used as guides not absolutes with other several types of performance benchmarks to temper what you read from them.
That all being said - in every instance and worth even a few hardware boosting builds I tried Premiere consistently runs faster on the new threadripper 2, and that's not the only app running faster for sure- even amoungst most programs that would appear to favor the Intel setup by looking at the benches, there is almost no comparison to the n early night and day difference this CPU makes. Pretty fascinating and I've never really been a die-hard CPU brand fan of either amd or intel- I tend to lean toward Intel(not by much) but more importantly I've seen processors from both companies be the better of the two depending on application and price point as well as a variety of other factors. In other words I've always felt amd processors are the best for certain things and Intel for others. To be completely honest tho, given how amd has been utilizing their tech and how Intel has nowadays- I think I really am becoming AMD fanboy- not their yet but it's hard to deny the proof that their products vs Intel's for the last few lines (about back to the end of the FX Series) provide. And I understand being a fan of hardware and all but simply look at what amd cpus can do in EACH price point. it's pretty hard not to see amd is the clear winner. I still love alot of Intel's creations, but truth be told these days AMD is just plain better, and not just better bang for the buck anymore. Intel really needs to create a whole.new architecture to be the leader once again- I think the days of the "Core" series cous is coming to an end soon if amd continues the way the have been since the release of the ZEN chips. I've always slightly preferred Intel but if someone asks me next I'm doing a build "what is the best CPU I can put in my machine?" I'm going to say "quite simple, an AMP chip" instead of asking "that depends, what are you mainly going to use this computer for?" (Of course I'll still ask that question but I think everyone will get the point I'm trying 2 make!) Well done amd. Just wow.
- though your power consumption is a little high but hardly an issue anyways when your making a build that would require a chip like this. But knowing the type of tech amd has access to I think the TDP Could easily be lowered at least a little.
Ernest Jay BUT MY I7 FOU- shut the hell up
Having only bought Intel so far, I'm quickly becoming a fan of AMD seeing what they're doing.

"If there is anything that the history of computing has shown us, it's that if you breed a faster horse, someone, somewhere is gonna build a more challenging course"
Or, a slightly more cynical version:
Andy giveth and bill taketh away. If computers become ten times faster, developers will find ten times as much for them to do, or feel at liberty to do things 10 times less efficiently.
"So CPUs now have 32 cores eh? okay, time to optimize chrome around that!"

I would love to see a dedicated threadripper 2 overclocking video, as this provides a great analysis of quality of the design and its capacity to be used in a greater range of situations
You should absolutely do an overclocking video on threadripper too! I'll be honest guys if this was an Intel chip you guys would have already done the overclocking video so don't just leave AMD out to dry LOL
dude like its the most powerfull one and why do you need do buy it .. . like even pixar or anything like that wont buy for just 3-4 seconds difference even 30 secons and its still gonna still with intel xeon plus linus explained why he didnt overclocked
That's actually the first review I see with those results
Gery Limanaj You're right. Pixar or any other animation studio wouldn't buy that CPU. That's because they multi-million dollar render-farms doing the rendering for them and those farms tend to have thousands of CPU's like that. If you think high budget animated films are rendered by desktop computers, you're pretty clueless so that attempt at an insult kinda makes you look a little foolish.
Yeah I'd watch an overclocking video.
Agreed! Im curious to see what kind of performance we would see if just 4 or 6 cores were overclocked
2 cpu 15 gamers ??
BYTOOX COMMENTAIRE WHO DAFAQ ARE U? HMMM???
with 1 of these overclocked you could have 10 people on it and still be getting performance like an i5 7600 each.
with 2 epyc 7601 chips you could probably have 20 people on it no problem.
1 cpu 16 gamer
How many GPUs can you attach to a Threadripper CPU?
pls like this comment (not) if you want amd and intel team up so they have 12 core 8 ghz cpus :)
Just got my 2990wx, running linux. Rendered BMW while watching a live stream... 1:21, almost 15s faster than the same workload on windows. The linux kernel just handles that many cores way better.
I did a benchmark with athlon 300g with IGPU OC to 1400 and cpu to 3.6ghz. Windows has 30fps at all minimum settings and the settings that can be off to save performance off. But with shadows Linux gets 45fps. Linux is better then Windows for gamimg
I love the endings always Linus. Keep up the amazing work sure I'm late but these videos are better than prozac
Where is the top comment about wanting the dedicated OC video? I cant find it so here it is. I want it.
Threadripper needs to change the X to 'Xtreme!', for the full flashback to the late 80's early 90's experience :) Seriously, it sounds like a gun out of duke nukem 3d or something, love it.
i would say that the WX or XW should be named WS as of WorkStation
The WX should be wumbo Xtreme because I wumbo, you Wumbo, he/she/we wumbo its elementary
I'm here to rip some threads and chew bubble gum.
AMD used the WX designation for ThreadRipper because it's what they use to distinguish Radeon workstation products. For Radeon GPUs the X series are for prosumers and the WX series are for professionals. So a workstation with a ThreadRipper 2990WX cpu would be paired with a Radeon Pro WX 9100 gpu.
The gun of course rips the cloths off pretty women, and make enemies cup their junk in embarrassment :)
Welcome to the future! I for one would enjoy a Threadripper 2 overclocking video.
Really liked the writing of this video. This was better than the average LMG video. It had a lot of quick information bits and still gave out the message it needed to give.

Geez AMD is having a good year with CPU's.
Maybe the 2990x exists entirely to help people negotiate to get the 2950x.

_You've come a long way. Gj man, gj._
As a software developer, I blame software developers. Maybe to a lesser extent, the state of programming languages. It's astounding how much software is afraid to properly multithread. Years ago, I thought this would be mostly fixed by now, but it really requires products like this to become more normal and to become the way we push speed now that moore's law is dead. But it's still gonna take a decade to rewrite enough code to where we _really_ do this stuff properly. At least it makes web browsing in multiple tabs a bit better.
verdatum I agree with the developers part, although I would say programming languages aren't afraid of anything, most of them offer multithreading libraries and have been for years. Parallelism is hard, you have to change your mindset when programming and take a lot of factors into account.
i blame the industry - as a software developer i am preaching multithreaded programming since the first quadcore's hit the market. Management sees the "extra" Costs and says no since its future irrelevant ( Blindfolded Excellovers that! ). Its the same as if you come and say - hey we should fix this leak here ( i am perfectionist since i grew up having only 4kb of memory to program in ). - its loosing 4 bytes each hour. Management: 4 bytes is nothing! we have Gigabytes today - and also we can later fix that in a patch. I am like uhm no .... realistically how many people upgrade their router firmware after they get the thing? In the end you get a product that you have to reset after a couple of months or sometimes weeks in special cases becasue it hangs - and then gets called a "crappy router" - and all that as a result of 4 bytes leakage..... i wont say any names here but thats how it is nowadays... the final verdict for me quitting that job was after management told me they dont need to understand programming to make timelines nor decisions regarding efficiency. Nor did they listen... that company dindt have much sucess in the end with that product and i wasn't happy with my work there becasue i knew it could have been better.... ah well. - off to make my own company where in theese cases isn't finished at 4pm and the stuff fixed that needs to.
Programming languages are more to blame than you think. Even in the past 20 years, barely any language dared to enter the parallel space. The ones that did, they offer only a small set of starter tools, but everything else had to make your hand get dirty. Don't get me wrong. Writing perfectly threaded, safe, good performing applications are possible. If you are a black belt C++ master for example, with maybe 20-30 years of active experience. Now, those people exist. But who would ever have the budget, to assign them to every tool? To have a dozen hired?
So, the bottom line is, languages are still behind. You can do it, but it introduces an insane amount of complexity and risk. Security, stability, scalability...
what kind of developer are you ?
There are tons of things that need tons of more code, and bring nothing when multithreaded, even i hobby coder know that.
Example 1: Sort Operations.
Create one Array for each thread, splitt the List to different Arrays, sort each array, >wait until each thread is done< now merge them to one, and then sort it again ! All advantages are gone !
1) 8 times more ram needed because you must copy the array before you can delete it , or copy & ""delete"" each array entry which create massive access time delays
2) At the End all is merged in one list, and must be sorted again from one thread !
3) You cant start to sort at the end, when one thread is still running !
More Code for nothing !
Example 2: again Sort Operations
Create 63 arrays. Now create 63 Threads.
Thread 1 copy all Words that beginn with A to Array1
Thread 2 copy all Words that beginn with B to Array2
etc
etc
Thread 63 copy all Words that do >not< beginn with A-Za-z0-9 to Array 63
Wait until each thread is done.
Now each thread has to sort each array.
Now each thread hast to write each array to one final array.
And again the same Problem.
1) Splitting Words to 63 different arrays create massive delays
2) Same Ram usage problem here !
3) Merge to one final array, makes no sense when there are still working threads left
Same with Copy & Move Operations. Even a SSD can do just a limited number of i/o operations.
Why theres no multi core application that runs exactly 4 x faster on a quadcore ? Because theres overhead. To controll the i/o operations from the cores, you need cpu power too, the OS must handle this. That's why it's just ~ 3.7 x faster
And btw
All above 4 Threads is absolute wasted power on daily basis. Even a Dual Cores are absolute ok on daily basis (and sometime they work even faster)
2 Cores run with higher average clock, because the cpu workload get faster in regions where the cpu set the clock up. With a 4 Core the workload is so low, that the cores run most of the time at 800-1200mhz, because of the aggresive power safe managment from 4+ core cpu's
More as 4 Cores are just interessting for Video Encoding, Password Decrypting, hardcore Virtualisation & maybe Gaming...because game developers slow down game engines on purpose (clock the original XBox at 740mhz and some Games run insanly fast....the default Clock from the original XBox is 733mhz ! Type some Speed Cheat Code in GTA VC and the Game runs 2-3x so fast, without drawbacks in graphics or physics)
So the Game developers get some black money from Hardware manufacturers, and Microfuck get's it too, that's why each new Windows Version can do 10% more (and from this 10% are 80% absolute useless functions) but need 2-4x more ram as the version before, and is way slower on the same cpu.
That's how it works for 4 decades now. And all the Hardware Zombies out there follow the hype like sheeps and buy that shit.
A анонимный I would say language adoption is behind. It's pretty easy to write highly parallel code in languages like Haskell because due to the strong type system and immutability you write very clean high level code and it can transform it into something else completely and compiler optimize the shit out of it to the point that it can look and perform like a c code written by hand. It's also pretty easy to make a non-parallel code into a parallel one just by adding a couple of lines. Because the type system is so strong you are never afraid to do even huge refactors because it catches nearly all bugs at compile time. So you can take some old dinosaur code that everyone forgot how to works and update it to use parallelism without worrying about huge refactor costs of introducing bugs. You also have many parallelism options there and even more ways to implement your own abstractions on top to make it even easier, but people choose more popular languages just because they are more popular.
*_Linus tech tips no. 1 :- NEVER INTRODUCE yourself in any of your Video_*

I'm using my Phenom II 555 BE with 4 cores unlocked, works for everything I use. No gaming, some video editing and alot of surfing around YT. :)
So essentially "If you build it, they will come."
Credit where due, AMD's boxing is absolutely blow-away bonza. OG Threadripper was neat as, but the Alien-Ark-or-Pandora's-box with the 3D crystal cave suspending the gemstone of a CPU is sexy as hell.
Does Linus really drive that motorbike? I was expecting one of the other employees to come in the frame and say something like "No Linus, that's mine, you drive the pink Lambo".
yes, he's talked about it many times
Yeah, it would be his one redeeming quality and give him some drastically needed "man points," but it's not a very cool bike. It's like in the late 90's/early 2000's when they switched from banana seat bikes to bikes that had separate driver/passenger seat cushions, and his bike is an intermediary. It still looks like a banana seat bike, but technically has two separate cushions.
Andrew Delashaw still a cool motorcycle...
He tried to convince Yvonne to let him buy a Lightning Superbike, she was a hard no because she wants the father of her children to live. I think if he wants a new bike he should go for it, but not one that costs 40+k...
He said he drives a bike in a recent wan show.
That’s what I love about Linus, even though he’s built an established business, he doesn’t go out and buy a sports or luxury car as well as getting a used motorcycle instead of a new one. All because he would rather use the money to build his business and watching out for his employees.
Shit, I'm still running an AMD FX 8-core processor.
fx? bulldozer? dude those things nearly killed AMD with how shit they were
Now render x1, x2, x3, x4 4k videos simultaneously as a side by side comparison ? Because I know some Threadripper users are finding that they can ..
But can it run Sonic Unleashed in RPCS3 at 60fps?
Holy shit i love that game xD even tho it made me rage so hard when i was younger
Selenit 4 I know, and now it's finally playable in some form on PC, only problem is the massive CPU usage. You can fry an egg on most i9s with it and the CPU usage is 100% no matter what CPU I've seen play it.
Still wishing there was a native port for PC
Fate For Windows For emulators, stronger, faster, fewer cores are best. But maybe they fixed that idk
Blade Mastr that particular emulator actualy scales pretty decent with more cores (I imagine it has to do with how werid Sony's cell processor was) but to a certain point ide imagine it runs on ryzen pretty good though last I checked but idk it would use all of thread rippers cores would be interesting to though lol
Looking forward to Linus' next tutorial on Home Oil Exploration with TR2! :-)
so happy to see how far Linus has come

Nvidia is going to launch new gpu noice nothing.exe has stopped as we are pc master race
Yes? :D
Nobody tell Past Linus about the car he now drives
Pretty sure he traded it in after LTX or got a new one. Wasnt quite clear.
He told in the pre-last WAN-show he's gonna get a new car AND a new motorcycle. Probably happened by now.
To The GAMES then no one tell Past Linus the car he drove for 4 years
+Luqman heheheehe
Yup, would be interested in a dedicated OC video!
Please do a seperate overclock video. Also do an overclock video with cores disabled. It is very likely the best results will come from turning SMT off in many of these situations. Compute heavy tasks often benefit from the lower overhead resource allocation algorithms disabled.
ACTIVATE WINDOWS
its a test bench, there is no reason to activate windows when it will just be wiped.
That was a joke :)
"Finally, after 35 years of development, we can run Crysis"
Bilbo_Gamers
Or Flight Simulator X, complete with Vista artist interpretation :D
Well, suck it up Intel! AMD has got the nanosuit!
first crysis actually utilsed only 1-2 cores :D
CeleronS1 r/whooosh
ShamockParticle Wasn't Flight sim X poorly optimized for multi threading?
Your acting skills are just amazing
I think a lot of CZcamsrs and the like are going to love this CPU and how much more work they can get done with it. Not only is it really fast at encoding, you can throw a bunch of simultaneous encoding and rendering tasks at it before it tops out. It is a very impressive piece of kit. They have got a bunch of cores to work well together as their answer to being behind on single threaded performance higher for so many years. That has got them back in the game. Now if they also get single threaded performance higher in their next Zen releases, they could very easily become top dog in all respects, not just multithreaded content creation etc. .
Yes! Please do a Threadripper 2 OC guide for the 2950x
I like how Linus roasts NCIX everyday.
TenZaPain he miss ncix af
RACER™ did linus leave ncix or was he fired?
+DiMMM he left to start Linus Media Group.
DiMMM NCIX is no more

The one that got away.
Great Review, 16 cores will be fine for me after watching this great video. Keep up the great work
ACTIVATE WINDOWS LINUS
SERGE why?
Milorad Djurdjic because its really annoying with the watermark and not having full control of your pc.
Wow that CPU is a thicc boi. I definitely hope AMD is successful in their endeavors, they're definitely giving it all they've got and they really have Intel scrambling to keep up, which is awesome as competition is the best thing for progress. I switched over to an 8700k recently but for a long time I was rocking an FX8320 and honestly it was a pretty sold chip even to this day (though I wouldn't build a new system with one).
had that fx8320, my experience is that it was holding me back a bit with a 980ti but definitely great at multithreaded anything. Had an skylake i5 after that one and also an older dual xeon but sold both of them for ryzen 1700 OCd to 4ghz. It's the best combination of multi threaded work and single threaded gaming, 8700k great chip too.
For sure, in CPU heavy games it would struggle a bit. I went from 45-60 fps to a locked 60 with higher graphics settings in GTA V when I upgraded to the 8700k but in Final Fantasy XV I saw maybe a few FPS difference, if even that and this is all with a 970. I almost built a Ryzen system a while back but at the time the RAM prices were holding me off, then one day I said the hell with it and went all out on the 8700k. I've definitely been loving it, the emulation performance has been the biggest difference for me and that's a big reason that I went with the 8700k, emulation usually loves good IPC and single threaded performance. I haven't been doing much workstation type stuff since I got out of school and I probably won't be in the future as the job I'm going into won't have me on my computer much so I'm pretty content.
still rockin my fx8320 to this day with Sabretooth v1. I dont really need 100Ghz with 1,000 cores to type on my MS Word 2007.
Dz Vid27 Lol yeah my stepdad built an fx8320 system around the same time as I did but I don't think he's ever going to upgrade it as he mostly just uses it for word processing. With moores law slowing down quite a bit in recent times it definitely seems less nessesary to upgrade your cpu for office type work.
Threadripper 2nd Gen OCing video ? damn right we do!
Love the hair tie / rubber band at 0:34 :-P

Amazing intro
Cringeworthy is the word.
@@DemanaJaire most cring-inducing person on the internet. I watch his content for the info but it's painful. I'm sure kids eat it up, though.
you must be one of those kids that think everything is cringy due to lack of social interaction :(
Red Arrow You know what’s cringy? A girl twice younger than me calling me a kid, judging my social life not knowing a single shit about me. Get lost.
An OC guide would be GODSEND guys!
As a creator myself I am now starting to dabbe into the OC settings and discovered that by default my MSI meg Creation board runs UMA mode..which causes micro-stutters & such in games, while in Unigine walley it went up from 4.4k to 5.0k on extreme.
The memory OC too is a thing that I poked and there really is NO real guide around!
Cmon guys.. maybe a colab too! =}
I ordered my hifiman 350s like 2 years ago off massdrop, they were 200 bucks and cane after 9 MONTHS
Did.. Did Linus just flex on us?
Yes xD

Activate Windows
Go to settings to activate windows.
I guarantee they got sick of doing it.
438295 they really should make a distro for that use.
438295 actually not necessarily true. Depends on the licence. If they’ve got some enterprise edition licensing they won’t have those kinds of issues
but why waste the money for that? I work on about 500 machines in an enterprise environment and I have a test bench and my test hard drive isn't activate nor will ever be. I need to just install parts and make sure they work or don't and I am not about to spend $400 on a LTSB license for no reason. He's doing it right by not activating.
ey that is my joke
Prof.Hennesseys lecture at Google io comes to mind. Instead of more general purpose cores we will begin to see as already in mobile "AI" centric or specific operations focused cores that can do some softwares better. More general cores can only matter to datacenters
I like the last quote.
If you breed a fast horse, someone, somewhere is going to make a more challenging course.
LoL I loved the intro! Also i'd like to see you guys run some virtualization benchmarks, maybe with Nvidia quadro or grid passthrough (whatever you guys use for your rendering) vs intel's offerings.
I hope intel and amd keep challenging each other because I want cheap parts XD
Merlijn Verstraete Competition between these 2 shall benefit us :D
I think people forget that the more competition the better for the consumer. I love amd. But i do also use intel products. I hope the 2 companies keep pushing each other to we never experience another stagnant market like we experienced from the late 2000s to 2016
@ Josh Berman: Exactly those go ooh and ahh at the new AMD chips, forget that if Intel goes belly up (unlikely) and AMD becomes the dominant player.. Then history could repeat itself when AMD were in the toilet and Intel were the king and we suffered years of innovation stagnation..
Thats not really ever gonna happen as intel created thunderbolt and owns the rights to it.

Travels to the Future and Already wears an Casio Smart Watch !!! Linus We love you
I would like to know what is in your pocket. I always see you rech for it and seemingly adjust something in it and was curious as to what it is.
The intro was incredible!
Marketing strategy borrowed from the car industry's halo cars.
Threadripper = Ford GT
Ryzen 7 = Mustang GT
Rysen 5 = Focus ST
Ryzen 3 = Fiesta ST
Nobody can afford/buy a Ford GT but it's makes the rest of them more desireable to some by association. It's fun seeing what the best AMD/Ford's engineers can do so I support it.
:S
So by that comparison, I went out and shelled out for a Ford GT then...
except you dont have to wait about 2 and a half years to receive your threadripper after you ordering at its launch...
@@WeAreSMC96lmfao, thanks for that hilarious reminder. Remember the sad launch from the last 05+ Ford gt? Those things were riddled with problems.
Of course, I want to see an overclocking video of the Threadripper 2990wx! I'll also admit that I'm curious to see if I'll get to see Linus fry a 32 core CPU. 😀😀😀
so my mobile i3 is a Yugo
Bring on the dedicated overclocking video!
But you have to go all out if you're gonna do it. Some dude got the thing to run at 6Ghz across all 32 cores using ln2. Maybe see how high you can get it on water?
can't afford the wx but might look at the x versions for my next workstation/server build
Here is what will be really interesting. The 2950X is the new all around king. The 2990WX is the niche king but can't do it all. Will the 2970WX with three dies be the sweet spot for an architecture stuck to quad channel memory?
Really want to see an extensive test video with that part. It might kill the other two hardcore.
this CPU is better to used as VM machine so editor can edit muiltiple video at the same time without spending money to build multiple rig. if you compare 1 vs 1 its very stupid i think. sure it has a huge advantage on multiple core but the only use case is VM or render farm. 4 editor 1 CPU is possible
3dies ? it's 4 dies 6/6/6/6
Its 3 dies 8/8/8. Sad that this cpu gets punished in memory sensitive apps tho quad channel memory simply is not enough for that many cores.
3:05 dude 4 * 3+3...
Does he ride that bike in socks and sandals?
Sean Bradshaw Yes
Quite sure it's a joke, but more seriously he has is boots on at the beginning of the video ;)
No he uses boots he's not an idiot
Wondering if that's the baby suzuki sv or big boi sv??. I have both :-)
Just couldn't go without leaving a like for that introduction xD
I for one would love to see a 2990WX overclocking vid :)
2018: The workstation of the future is here.
2020: The workstation of the future is here.
2022: This is definitely the workstation of the future.
When will this end?
Never. You're just describing technological advancement paired with marketing, neither of which are going anywhere.
As long as technology evolves lol
In 2012 the i7-4960X was the king of the CPUs, the best of the best. It was the workstation of the future. Now in 2018 we are in the 2012 version of the future where mainstream i7s have 6 cores and 12 threads. What was once only for the highest end prosumers is now mainstream. We are currently in (what was considered in 2012 as) the future. And perhaps in 6 more years 32 cores will be more attainable to the masses.
It is endless because our technology still kicking out for innovation.
In future ;)
*has $1800 cpu*
*doesn't activate Windows*
This is a test build on a testbench what's the use of activating windows?
Your not supposed to activate windows. ^.~ your supposed to use a linus build.
M̶͙̈́ȯ̸̯ń̶̡i̴̱͊k̸͉̑a̸̺͌ Your name how u make it?
They have to validate it after *everytime* they switch their CPU so they don’t care about it anymore

I'd love the tr2 overclocking video.
that box is OP it makes me want 1 just for the box
