  • This is a KSPS (PBS) production, which they aired at 8:00 PM on March 12 1998. (Interviews were shot in 1997.)
This chapter discusses the history of Bowness / Bowness Park in Calgary. John Hextall purchased the land in 1908, and personally financed a new bridge in 1911, convincing the City of Calgary to run its streetcar line across the bridge into his development, which he called Bowness Estates. In return, he donated two Bow River islands to the city, for use as a park, now known as Bowness Park.
Hextall left in 1914 to fight in World War I, and was killed that year.

Grew up in Calgary 1942 and remember going on the street car to Bowness and spent many visits there.

Bowness park sounds like Nat Park in Spokane both had street cars going to them? You can see the old tracks in Spokane West centre neighbourhoods?

Can you broadcast US stations in Calgary over air? Shadedmuse is trying to get licensed to broadcast Calgary stations over airs in Spokane?
