If you want to lose some weight or detox your body, fruit fasting might be a good option for you. During fruit fasting, you should only be consuming fresh, raw fruits for a certain amount of days or weeks. Eating only fresh fruit over a specific period of time is one of the best ways to detox your body. The body has a hard time cleaning out old and unuseful content when we live through a standard diet, so if you do a short fruit fast once in awhile it can be really beneficial for you.
There are a few different types of fruit fasting regimens you can try, like the one-fruit fast or the any-fruit fast where you can eat any fruit you wish as long as you are only eating fruit. Keep in mind, fruit fasting is more comfortable and easier to do during the warmer months of the year or in warmer climates.
Benefits of Fruit Fasting
Fruits have a lot of vitamins, nutrients, and antioxidants that are good for us. Fruit fasting is the best for detoxification and weight loss because fruit has so many health benefits. While you are on the fast you are consuming fewer calories so it is easier to lose weight. Doing any type of fasting is also good for becoming more in tune with your body. Ayurvedic Medicine says that “3-5 day fruit fasting enhances nervous system function and aids memory.”
Most fruits contain fiber, vitamin C, potassium, folate and large amounts of antioxidants. Fiber helps you lower cholesterol and it can regulate your bowel movements. Vitamin C helps improve the immune system and also promotes teeth and gum health. Potassium maintains healthy blood pressure and regulates fluid balance in the body. Folate helps support healthy fetal development and produce red blood cells. Antioxidants limit the production of free radicals so it helps protect your skin and fight off illness.
Potential Negative Effects of Fruit Fasting
This fast does have some negative effects so make sure you be careful and know what you are getting into. This fast can be highly restrictive so depending on how long you do the fast, you need to be careful of malnourishment. You will also be lacking in nutrients and vitamins such as protein, fat, calcium, vitamin B, and omega-3 fatty acids.
Depending on how long you do the diet, you will definitely feel hungry. But, according to diet.com, “hunger is a good sign because it is signaling that your body is using fat reserves for energy. This can cause more weight loss.”
The cleansing effect of fruit is caused by the toxins being released. You may experience foul breath, weakness, flu, headaches, nausea, diarrhea, sore throat, coughing, fatigue, body odor, body aches, and sinus discharge. All of this is considered normal and it is just part of the detox.
Types of Fasts and How to Use Them
The one-fruit fast is where you stick to one fruit for the duration of your fast. If you are a beginner at fasting you can do a one-day one-fruit fast and there won’t be too much discomfort.
The second method of fruit fasting is the any-fruit fast which basically includes any raw, fresh fruit excluding bananas. This is a pretty popular fast. The only thing you need to be careful about is fruit combinations because some fruits don’t digest well together like acids and sweet fruits. Melons don’t digest well with anything. So try to eat citrus fruits and melons by themselves.
In preparation for your fast, try to eat fewer and lighter meals for a couple days before. If your fast is going to have a long duration, make sure your preparation days match so you will be ready for your fast. Make sure you drink about 8 cups of water with fresh lemon added in. Also, try to plan your schedule and don’t do any vigorous activity. Don’t overwork yourself and get plenty of rest.
During the fast, if you are a beginner, it might be really hard. So, try to make the duration of your fast shorter. Start by making it one day and then continue longer when you’re able to. The first 2 or 3 days are typically the hardest but after that, it usually gets easier.
When you are breaking the fast make sure to do it slowly and ease back into normal food. Try to make good and healthy choices with what food you are eating when coming off of your fast. You need to plan your days for easing back into eating normal food and you need to base it on the duration of your fast. Try to pay attention to what your body is telling you so it can guide you on what to eat when coming off of your fast.
Good Fruits to Eat for Fruit Fasting
There are a lot of different types of fruits you can eat and all of them have different health and nutritional benefits. Make sure the fruits you get are organic and fresh. If your having trouble deciding what fruits to eat for the one-fruit fast or the all-fruit fast, here is a list to help.

i've enjoyed eating my fruit with my hands, it's the most fun thing ever.
For water melinda you can drop them on the ground usually just from waist level, maybe a couple times if it's stubborn.
For pineapple, if you wait for it to get really ripe where you can smell how sweet it is, you can twist off the top of the pine apple, start pushing your thumb or a finger in some of the sections, and when you have gotten some sections out, your can tear chunks of the sections together and it. is. awesome! and delicious

You can make tea using the pineapple skin. Just make sure it is clean before cutting. Add it to 4 cups of water and bring to a boil then let simmer for 30 mins. You can add ginger and cinnamon to the pot if you like. 😊
