As a person that loves the taste of red meat and fish, but hates the cruelty these animals go through just so we can consume meat, I think I just found a way to care for the animals and still have meat in some way. Thank you for sharing this, Jack.

I"m a vegan, and I find this very commendable of you to at least trying out these alternatives. Most wouldn't even take a second look if they saw "I'm meat free!" Throughout the years I have been ridiculed for not eating meat. You are my hero! Thank you for showing the world that when it comes to food, vegetables are as fierce as meat!

I'm not vegan but I want to try some vegan things. I have just got some chicken tenders by gardein...what would you recommend for somebody that wants to try and maybe become vegan
Hi Kels!
At the beginning of my conversion, I had a hard time with tofu. So I just avoided it. I recommend converting yourself very slowly, simultaneously experimenting with new foods. Gardein is a great starter food. This way you can find the ones you like, which will make the conversion experience enjoyable. As always, let your doctor know so they can recommend specific supplements. You do not want to shock your vital systems, so it is important that it is a slow process. You do not have to go completely vegan either, you can just do a few meals a week with meat. That in itself will make a huge difference in health, animal rights, and environment.
There are many ways to mimic animal products via vegetables. Miso is a great substitution for broths/Sauces, as well as infusing the Umami aspect into meatless meals. Lentils and Beans are great replacements, and if you pair them with a whole grain; they become a complete protein. The Vegg, is an egg substitute for vegans that has the taste and texture of Eggs. However, I just eat potatoes and morning star breakfast sausage patties (see costco). You can also try Seitan (Vital Wheat Gluten) as a chicken substitute. I hope this helps, and I hope you have an exciting culinary adventure trying new vegan foods!

It's so cool to see meat eaters trying vegan/vegetarian foods with an open mind. I've tried most of these, and gardein is so great at mimicking the texture and flavors of meat. If you do this again, you should definitely try gardeins hamburger. It comes in a purple package and it is scarily spot on to a normal meat burger
Gardein kills it man I am a new vegetarian and its like I never gave up anything. These guys have really nailed it, the beefless ground is killer.

Thank you for taking vegan dishes seriously! I'm so tired of people telling us our food is gross and that we're just picky and annoying. Ps- i love the fish sticks as fish taco filling! That plus salsa, cabbage, aoili... Yum!

Robbie King It must be good then! I generally don't eat meat substitutes even though I am vegetarian. I am put off by the taste and texture. So I eat meat-free things that don't involve imitation meat.
Theres a vegan cheese called 'Chao' thats so creamy and gooey when it melts its crazy that its dairy free. you should try it!

Have you tried the regular meat-analogue Gardein burger? It's bang on for flavor and texture.
They probably use a sea weed to get the fish fillet the "fishy" taste.
I know this video is old but it came up in my suggestions, I haven't eaten meat in 6 years and I'm now completely vegan, I eat Gardein one a week or so when I'm feeling like having something fancy and and more complex protein than tofu or legumes. The chicken fingers are actually one of my favourite because they are so flavourful. The best of the best is the Mandarin Chick'n though, it's gold.
I don't know for sure but I think the fishy taste actually comes from living in a saltwater environment so I think if they just add some kind of seaweed or sea vegetable to the formula, it will taste like fish.

I would love it if you would review any Field Roast products. Since you're a burger guy, they have a hand formed burger that's vegan, franks, meatloaf and all kinds of roasts. I'm really curious what you thought about them.

I been vegetarian now for 6 years . This really is one of the best brands you can buy from. The creator really cares about his product. I have made a stuffing for thanksgiving couple years using the meatballs. Really good stuff.

Born on island, fish and crab cakes taste like the real thing. If you do not like fish, because you never had the opportunity to have it as part of your diet, don't try them, you will be wasting your money. Do try their other products, so far what I have tried has been most enjoyable.

Jack, ever since i got sick i had to choose vegan meals, they seem to digest in my body a lot better, these product are amazing and they agree with my stomach, i was impressed how great they tasted and were so close to the real thing, you have to try the ground beef and the sliders !!

Near the holidays, Gardein also offers a convincing and tasty "turkey" roast with gravy. My omnivorous family was really impressed.
I consume these products and I can tell you. As a former meat eater, they are some of the best out there. Their chikin' is not quite there yet but their meat and fish .. oh boy, very close to the real thing.
I've enjoyed your "meatless January" episodes. It's a nice change of pace and still lots of fun!
Gardein is by far my favorite meat substitutes!!!! I use everything except the chicken fingers and the black bean burgers, my favorites are the beefless ground, and burger and the chicken you showed. Love the fish as well!!!
Im vegan and i love getting the meatballs on a skewer and then getting veggies on it and getting vegan barbecue sauce its sooo goos

Also you would've gotten better results if you allowed some browning. The chicken in particular is way better with a bit more crisp/color!
Gardein makes some of the best mock meat products. I just had one of their burgers and was blown away at how good it tasted. Your video makes me wanna go out and get more gardein products to try!

I love all there line of products, my favorites.
I Love Gardein Products and have been eating them for now almost 6 months. (they are also Vegan). which is important to me since I can't have Dairy due to my Eczema, I have turned from meat most of the time because when I eat meat the pain of my arthritis gets so bad that I need to take pain meds to get through the day. without the meat I need no pain meds, and the swelling is very minimal. I thank you very much for reviewing these products as a meat eater it's nice to hear how men that are MEAT eaters feel these products fair.
I am so grateful to have recently found Gardein products. It doesn't irritate my stomach and it makes me feel like I'm not missing on anything.

I am not vegan but have drastically cut my meat consumption from 5-6 days a week to 2 (sometimes 3) days a week because I do object to factory farming cruelty, and the pressure on the environment of western meat consumption. However, I do believe we are omnivores and eating meat in small to moderate quantities is part of our human evolution. Knowing about what products are good as a substitute will help a lot. I have been eating some veggie burger patties and a lot of falafel, which I love, but need more variety. I will try these, if you say they are good I trust you and am sure I will like them too.
Hi Jack! I tried the fish less fish sticks tonight, you're right, they're pretty darn good! I'm not sure if I will buy them again since I don't have a problem eating regular fish sticks and I don't love the pretend fish texture but thanks for the review! It was fun to try them out!
I didn't like the meatballs.. But the strips were sooooo good.
My husband and I have been eating more meatless meals because of his health. We have been really liking this brand, and I was curious how Jack felt about them. Exactly as we have. This company has really stepped up. Love the Mandarin chicken. They also have skillet meals. My husband is always pleasantly surprised he is not eating meat and I agree. I’m eating what is on his diet and feel so much better. Highly recommend.
Wow, I loved your video! As a vegetarian, I like to try new brands that makes meatless ''meat'' stuff, it's much easier to follow my vegetarian routine this way. I really did like eating meat for all of my life and the reasons why I am a vegetarian is not because I hate meat. Meatless ''meat'' is a wonderful way to consume something close to meat but without the suffering of anything. It's a very new and interesting alternative, even for meat-eaters who wants to consume a little bit less meat sometimes.
This said, I also loved this video because as everyone knows, the brand Gardein tend to be a bit expensive. They are not overly expensive but if you buy something without tasting it, and it turns out to be awful, it's sad that you end up with 20$ in the garbage. 20$ can make a big difference when you are not that rich (being a student, 20$ was half of the money I had for my grocery) so it's good that we have someone to review a lot of these products and actually tell us what they are like.

I used the strips to stir-fried with vegetables & eat them with rice. They taste delicious.
you should try the sweet and sour 'pork'. it's my favorite with some basmati rice, pineapple and carrots. so yummy!
I appreciate how you taste the food before making your final thoughts. So many taste tasters barley get the food in their mouths and go MMMMMMMM DELICIOUS.

I had the turkey cutlets, YUM !! They tasted like fried chicken pattys, but they were bangin. They tasted so good on a roll with mayo. And the meatballs were yummy to. Im blown away by how good their food is and how real they taste.
Jack throw a little talcum/baby powder on your hands and the inside of the glove to get them on and off easier. They do this with latex doctor gloves for the same reason.
Thanks for the review. After watching, i found my local target carried this brand. Unfortunantly, they only have the meatballs. Wish they had more varieties to pick from but the meatballs are great!

I can second Jack's opinion of this brand, at least for the Ultimate Burger. I tried one for the first time last week and I was SHOCKED. It's not the same as the burgers you get from the "high end" burger places, but it's just as good as your average burger. If you are trying to get away from meat (for whatever of the multitude of reasons), give this brand a try. It's really pretty amazing what they've come up with.
my local market had a bunch of different meat less vegan items for a $1.50. I bought a bunch, I haven't tried any yet but I'm optimistic now

My favorite frozen vegan burger patties as the Massala ones they sell at Trader Joe's... They are so friggin good.. I put them on everything... A bed of rice... in a lettuce wrap... You name it.. And then top it off with Just Mayo Chipotle and you have a thing of beauty.

Gardein is awesome! Only thing I will say is, if you're looking for a burger closer to the real thing as opposed to the black bean ones, try the original burgers in the red packaging from Gardein. Like the other products, it's scary accurate!

You are one of the only people that reviews vegan food and actually makes it how it would be made. LIke using a tartar sauce or using a marinara, etc... it's impossible to tell if something is good if you just eat the plain thing. I like your vids!
This brand really blew me and my fiance away. we are trying to eat less red meats and we use these as an alternative. All of them are very spot on with flavor, and its easy to make the same dishes that you would with real meat.
I just tried the Black Bean Burger recently and loved them. I was looking to branch off and try some of their other products. Great video!

If you airfry the chicken strips they are PHENOMENAL. Only takes 10 minutes in my air fryer and they are perfect. So crispy and I’ve cut them up and put them in salads, eaten them plain, made a crispy chicken sandwich.
I tried the beef tips and I didn’t like it 😩 the flavor was there but the texture made me nauseated 🤢 but I most def will try the meatballs and chicken. Thanks for the review, I just subbed

Great Review! I'm a vegan and I thought it was scary how real the texture and flavor was! I had to check the package multiple times to make sure; Next time I suggest going for the regular chicken tenders-so good; crazy accuracy! And I like how you can see plainly what they put inside.

This video proves that we can have the tastes we crave and have been conditioned to think we need but without the completely unnecessary cruelty. If you feel like going down a potentially life changing path...you should watch Forks Over Knives, Cowspiracy, and then Earthings..best in that order. Fair warning that Earthings is very graphic but important to watch because for a lot of people it seals the deal.

I find that the meatless meatballs have a bit too much fennel in them, for my taste. And I tried the fishless fish fillets and didn't care for them. However, I have liked the majority of everything else I have tried from Gardein.

The Gardein meatballs are delicious! I’ll prolly only use these from now on when I make spaghetti & meatballs. The Morning Star farms original hamburger patty is delicious, as is the Boca burger flame grilled patty. Now I want to try the orange chicken, fish sticks & chicken nuggets from Gardein. And anything Dr. Praegers. Oh & I eat meat but starting to eat it less often. It’s not sustainable & I’m trying to do my part for future generations. 💚
