You may need an intervention on your tool buying...haha! As a DIYer, I'm always trying to find the best bang for my buck. I do that with my knives as well. There are so msny choices out there. I really enjoy your channel for helping weed through it all.
Great information. Another video idea for you would be quality non-USA made tools (whether that be ratchets or just tools in general). I know you have a lot of USA made stuff but seems as though Taiwan has really been stepping up their game when it comes to quality tools over the past decade or so (and let’s not forget that Japan seems to only make quality).

Lol...Jeff had me go to Genius website to check out that 1/2 drive 24' long hard handle ratchet. That ratchet is sweet. I wish the handle would come in a few other colors though. Still, I have my eye on that one.
@@jefftovani5535do you have an indexing ratchet? I think they are over rated, but owning one in 3/8 seems reasonable for the once a year you have a situation to use it.

Low tooth count ratchets are good for very rusted fasteners other then that 72-90 count I think is a good sweet spot for ratchets but what do I know I'm a DYI that love working on my own and family/friends stuff
I’ve got high tooth and low tooth count. They both have their place. But the amount of hate on low tooth count ratchets never made sense to me personally. I wish more brands would do koken style handle.

I only have 15 different ratchets so far. I’ve spent a little under $3k on my tools. One ratchet I really want when I have money again is the v series long flex head comfort grip ratchets. I’ve heard lots of good things about them and I’m surprised I didn’t see one out on your table for this video

I believe that PROTO round head was made in Italy by USAG. I personally collect American made ( a lot of vintage stuff )1/4" ratchets, and my favorites are the WRIGHT contour grips. The 2426 and the 2495 flex head. I also love it's predecessor the 2400 with the traditional knurled round handle, I have a 1976 example and a 1977 example. My next favorite user would be the PROTO 4749XL ,it has a very fine light action with a fairly small sealed head. It only has 45 teeth but they're very small / fine so the action is very light and smooth. If you want a ratchet that can match the Koken back drag you want a 60's-70's Armstrong 10-901. I tell ya there are actually a number of ratchets from the 60's-80's that were putting Snapon to shame at a much lower cost, even today on Ebay they're affordable while anything snapon ( even the old coarse stuff ) will be treated like it's solid gold. They used to be the king of boxes, but for a good 30 years their ratchets were being left in the dust by even Sears Craftsman and Monkey Wards Pow-R-Kraft house brands have the WRIGHT 3425 long handle contour grip which is my go-to 3/8 ratchet, the grip is on the smaller side but I don't mind and I love the dual pawl mechanism.

You have quite the collection of ratchets Jeff! My go to ratchets are in the 36 tooth range. I've always been partial to the plastic handled ratchets. Really miss my Mac 3/8 flex head with the red plastic handle. I do have higher tooth count ratchets in my arsenal and they are great for today's tight quarter engine compartments. I have acquired a couple comfort grip ratchets that have a firm handle. I don't care for the Snap on "sponge grip" handles as I call them. I wish more tool manufacturers offered the knurled handles on their ratchets. I occasionally use my old round head New Britain made ratchets.
Ya I like the look of those genius ratchets. I have not bought any yet but I like the round heads and the roto/swivel heads the best. But honestly I like them all!!! Great stuff guys thanks

The PROTO Round head palm control ratchet is actually made in Italy. Great Ratchets!!! a little too thick of a head in 1/4 drive though. I think the handle on the VIM ratchet is too large. You're off to a great start with your ratchet selection, keep up the good work !!!

Great video! I have several ratchets mostly SK, Craftsman and Thorsen which I bought in the 70s but oddly enough my go to ratchet is a Pittsburg red/black composite which I bought on a whim.

Matco,mack,snap on,cornwell,are all very nice ratchets,i dont own much tool truck brands,doesnt mean i dont like them,just dont buy much of it!! happy wrenchingmy friend,you know i love your channel!!!!!

Thumbs up for Ko-ken👍 24-tooth sounds like a joke, but I have a few of their ratchets, and they are some of the smoothest I've ever used. Don't knock it if you ain't tried it! I also like those Blue-Point ratchets, but I think mine are 72-tooth, not 36-tooth.
As you also appreciate the strength of lower tooth count ratchets, I'm wondering if you have a vintage Proto Professional (pear shape). Light black oxide finish...one of my favorites. The 1/2 drive is a beast and beautifully made.
How long have you had the newer 120xp ratchet and how well has it held up?. I bought it but then returned it. My dislike was i felt the head had more flop than it should when locked. I was also afraid it would deteriorate overtime and the head would break free from the locking mechanism. What are your thoughts? You think the head play is normal and typical for most ratchets? Are there any locking flex heads that have minimal play that youd recommend?
I havent had any problems with it yet,i had mine for 6 months, it does have some play in the head when locked in!! more than i would like,but it has held up so far!! i only have one other brand ,stanley and it to has good amount of play!! i dont own any others yet,but ill be doing a serieson locking and non locking flex-head ratchets real soon!! so stay tuned!!

That's a lot of ratchets. Pick up the Tekton composite ratchets from their outlet section. About 10 bucks per ratchet, almost no back draft and unique design. Pittsburgh pro has very similar ones at harbor freight. I don't see them in your collection. You might like how they feel.

That ratchet can take a beating,i really riffed on a fozen control arm bolt and it didnt even faze it one bit,its a frikkin beast!!!
It may be only 24 tooth, but it’s strong as an ox!

Williams anything is good.We have the 12 point flare nut sockets and they have been such a good set of tools.Expensive but well worth the price

I havent had any problems with it yet,i had mine for 6 months, it does have some play in the head when locked in!! more than i would like,but it has held up so far!! i only have one other brand ,stanley and it to has good amount of play!! i dont own any others yet,but ill be doing a serieson locking and non locking flex-head ratchets real soon!! so stay tuned!!

Jeff, Have you tried the Tekton Slim body ratchets. Tekton makes a 3/8 dr head on a 1/4 dr body. I really like them.

That's a lot of ratchets. Pick up the Tekton composite ratchets from their outlet section. About 10 bucks per ratchet, almost no back draft and unique design. Pittsburgh pro has very similar ones at harbor freight. I don't see them in your collection. You might like how they feel.

Favorite ratchets: Craftsman Fine tooth, quick disconnect and built in thumb wheel in all three drives that came in my 147 piece set that cost $300 in 1979. Everything still good as new except the 3/8 that saw the most use and is a little loose but still works fine.
