Hydroponic Greenhouse Build From Start to Finish

  • We share the family construction project of building the hydroponic greenhouse from the ground up. Hear from all of us about the whole process, and Doug gives some tips we learned along the way and things that worked for us. We did almost all of this project ourselves, including the head house production/processing building.
It started in summer 2013 with Doug breaking ground for the head house. Once we got that started, we moved on to setting the posts for the greenhouse, getting the cement aisles in, and securing the reservoir tank in the ground. Doug made an awesome invention for getting the NFT support posts in and another one for getting the plastic covering over the greenhouse easily. We came across a few hurdles, but with Doug and Katy's construction background, we were able to figure it all out. After a year and half, in January 2015, Katy seeded her first crop. It was very exciting!
Here is the greenhouse heating and cooling video I said I would link.

Great job guys. I just ran across your video and watched the entire thing. I'll soon be putting up a similar size greenhouse in Ecuador on a private ranch. The owner wants to see it work and then has promised to fund a humanitarian project in a number of large cities (Bogota, Guayaquil, Medellin, Lima, San Jose, etc.) The plan is to sell the produce to grocery stores and restaurants with take 100% of the profits and give it to people in need. I will admit that I know enough to be 'dangerous' and would be interested in talking to you and making a trip to see your operation in person to make sure I can recreate something similar. I've been watching a lot of videos on the subject and was thinking of doing the geothermal system to capture the 55 degrees of ground heat to keep the heating bills down. Thank you so much! That is very kind and we all enjoy working together. The kids weren't born yet when we started building in summer 2013. The baby at the end is my oldest. He was born right when Katy started her first crop in January 2015.
