- Today’s video has been long in the making! We finally bought a dream property in Montana! We have been looking for years for the perfect location and best deal on property to build on. This lot features taxiway access to a private paved runway 2/3 of a mile long. Maybe the perfect spot for 1/2 mile drag strip races? Now comes the exciting process of planning and ultimately building our dream cabin lake house. Plus a hangar for the plane and some more cars of course! Congratulations! We moved from a city to rural life in Wisconsin over 20 years ago. We have some Bear issues and Coyotes, but you will learn how to deal with them . I drove one of our sports car about 20 miles the other day before I saw another car. Remember going to the dump is the best day of the week, that’s where you get all the local news/gossip. We are so happy for you, can’t wait to see future posts!

Congratulations on purchasing the property and my recommendations are that you separate the house from the hangar for fire/safety purposes. Keep the hangar close to the runway and put the house as so as to use the hilltop as natural protection against incoming aircraft from as many directions as possible. There are other things but I don't want to write a book. Thanks for a great video of the ”Big Sky” country!

You should do a hanger with a lot of floor space for cars/planes and then on top have a house

Separate buildings. Hanger below close to the runway. Buy gator or golf cart to back and forth. You know you will have luggage or groceries to haul from hanger to the house and back.

For starters, power available? You will need to look at a Perc & Mantel test to determine a septic and leach field site in relationship to your new home, and set backs.. Any time you build into a community, make your new construction equal to or slightly better than the nearby structures. Don't have to be clones but if you go too overboard you'll never get your money back. Fit in with your neighbors in other words, you'll be glad you did. Thanks guys.

I'm thinking how much it snows at this location would be a big factor. I like A frame houses...they look cool and will not cave in with lots of snow. Also a large hangar same issue large open area on the inside and flat roof would also have high stresses on it. Building into the ground would also be a nice option....so you get a heating effect from having the home insulated by building into the hill. Also you need to think about taxing a aircraft so that needs to be not a long ways either. As well as in the winter if you have the home and hangar far apart. It would get really old trudging in snow to check on things.
Lastly you need to think about your neighbors too...you might want to not have a style way different from what they have. You don't want to be that guy who has the biodome house with every house around you is like a two story colonial :). Good luck on this new adventure, sounds like it will be very fun.

we put up some posts and a steel roof frame, then cement block walls. Tile it and your done. People spend way too much money and get less space. It's not that expensive if you make large 10 m x 7 m rooms, one at a time, like this. Put them around a center enclosed area to look at through your inside windows, like Japanese people make.
