My buddy Walt took delivery of his new 2021 VX Cruiser HO WaveRunner two days ago so we take it to a local lake for its engine break in and first impressions! Along the way we compare it to my 2020 FX Cruiser HO and find it a great ski with subtle differences. This is not a full review (I do not feel myself qualified)... just first impressions and a quick comparo. We will be taking it out on rougher water next week so perhaps more info to come!

Nice review. I have a deposit down on the FX Cruiser SVHO. I have read on the Waverunner Owners site that some riders complain that if you are a taller rider (I'm 6 feet) you do not have enough leg room, and the cruiser seat pushes you forward. Do you find it comfortable? Do you think this is a ligitimate issue? Love all your videos, by the way. Thanks
I have been riding my 2020 FX Cruiser HO for 13 months now and find it comfortable...I am 6'2".... if Yamaha designs the seat a bit narrower in width in the future like they did on the 21 VX perhaps it will be even more comfortable, buts its fine now. The key for me being an old guy is to change positions frequently with your legs and stand occasionally to stretch. You will LOVE your new purchase! I am glad you like the videos...another one releases Sunday!
@@BobBroeking Thanks for the reply, Bob. I'll look for the new video on Sunday. It makes me feel a whole lot better to hear your opinion. Have you seen the review from the gentleman on The Ships Logg? He is 6'8" and says the seat is very comfortable for him also, while sometime changing leg position and standing occasionally helps him, too. Old guy? Satchel Paige once said, "how old would you be if you didn't know how old you were." I'll be 70 this year. Never too old....
I havent had any problems with the cruiser seats and im 6’4 the cruiser seats in my opinion are actually more comfortable than the regular seats.
I have a VX curiser ho, I am little of 6'2" and the seat is comfortable and easy to ride for a few hours.....

Yes, the 1.8 engine is great and the 1.9 is even better! Enjoy! And I was wrong about it not being as dry in heavy waves; it is very similar to the FX

Brought home a 2022 VX cruiser Ho last fall..love it. The cruise control is hard to set…but runs great
That is a great machine… faster than my FX! … not that I am a speed guy… just a nice ski … congratulations!
@@BobBroeking Bob, I too am an older guy..LOL so the speed is not that important....I love the green on the 21. My 22 is Cyan or as I call it Amazon Blue....

We just bought 2 out here in California and we’re going to pick them up at the dealer we checked them out the storage compartments the locks are plastic and get annoying because they are hard to close and open have to give it some force aswell the speakers for ours weren’t working so the dealer ended up wasting our time and had to keep them to see the issues for the speakers but other than those complaints I can’t wait to see how they are on the water
@@AngelDelacruz-tr5vj Agree Ange,l but since they were brand new maybe they just need to be open and closed a few times....maybe. I tapped the glove compartment with my palm after closing and that seemed to help and also the front storage compartment. I also always tap the back seat after reinstalling to make sure I hear the click. Bob

I picked up the 2021 VX Cruiser HO this morning. It was too cold to use it as it was high of 60.
I put my deposit down in September 2020 for an FX Cruiser but my dealership did not get any. They got one VX and because I was the first person to put a deposit down, I got it.
I got the the yellow & black.
I was a little disappointed because I wanted the size of the FX. My champagne problems. i
love the look of the VX.

The only thing the VX doesn’t have is trim control. The TDE buttons on the left you pointed at are for very low speed thrust for easy docking.

Looks cool. I have the 2019 fxho cruiser. Awseome machine! But 2 very bad points about it that I wish Yamaha would change is that the side mirrors are fixed and can't be adjusted! I'm 6.1 and can only see water in my mirrors. Pretty poor effort by Yamaha there. Also the front storage is great but is very hard to get into once on the water! You've pretty much got to lean over the handlebar with your legs in the air just to get something from there. I know many people give Seadoo crap but with their front storage lid the handlebars go up aswell making it much easier to gain access. Yamaha is definitely the best machine in my view but definitely need to redesign a few things!!
I agree with you... there are a few things Yamaha has to do to catch up with Seadoo...the mirrors are issues for me too, I assume they are fixed due to the pounding they may take on rough water but do not know. I have the same issue you mention. Also I cannot reach into my front storage compartment...tried recently to reach my paddle in the front compartment when I ran out of gas and could not...you can see that at: czcams.com/video/3xXzk8LPNL0/video.html
Also the new electronic screen on Seadoo that bluetooths to your phone for maps, music, etc is a game changer.

Great video! lots of nice changes in the vx line for 2021. Have you decided where to put the registration numbers? looks like room is limited!
Walt is waiting for his Florida DMV numbers and plans to put BLACK letters on the green strip in front of the gas cap on either side I believe. It has limited options but we think that placement will work and you will be able to see it from the side well enough.
Thanks for the review! I’m between a VX and VX HO. Will I regret not having gone with the HO? Any downsides to an HO whatsoever besides small additional cost?
At the time I made this it was one of the first new VX's out there and Walt got it. I see no downsides to either model after riding with Walt for the last 8 months and watching it perform. Its a great machine at the price point and if its a small increase to get the HO, definitely go for the 1.8 l engine, the same as in my FX Cruiser HO. The engine is powerful and bulletproof! Walt's VX is definitely faster than my FX due to the fact it is lighter.
Change the sponsons and the ride plate on the FX . Changes into a whole different beast . Yamaha purposely slowed the FX

Nice review. That is a beautiful machine indeed. I have a 2021 FX Cruiser SVHO and you are correct that the VX is a more nimble machine. Check out the review on my channel. You are also correct about the gas mileage. I think the best I have seen on mine is around 6.1.
Nimble seemed to be the right word! I am the guy who commented on your oil change video I was impressed with your white clothes! I will probbaly replace my 2020 in 2022 if there is a major redesign; don't know whether I will stick with the HO or get the SVHO. I am more interested in distance and gas mileage versus speed at this point. Bob

There is no trim on the VX is there? Where are the 2 arrow buttons for on the left...
There does not appear to be a trim on this model. The TDE button on the left controls slightly raising or lower the rear basket for reverse I understand.
@@BobBroeking did you mis the trim option wile driving it? The only thing between getting an FX against the VX is the trim... I prefer the VX..
I wish I could notice a more dramatic difference when I adjust the trim up on my FX, but it is very subtle. We are going to take the VX out in some rougher water Tuesday and maybe we will have a better idea. I think a rider would be fine on the VX without the trim...depending on the water conditions they usually ride in. It will NOT be as smooth as the FX regardless in big seas/ high chop just because of its smaller size I expect and have heard from others. But on some bumpy days ANY ski is a bumpy ride...
I saw no trim control on the VX Cruiser HO. See the video reviews I listed in my written description. No trim control noted. The FX has an electronic trim control.

I am no expert, but yes there are a LOT of differences and upgrades between the 2016 model and the 2021!

So my FX is talking about 45-1hr or so to drain the gas tank i only put special in it and it's a 2015 with about 94hrs it's a svho as well is it normal for the svho to waist this much gas ?
Unfortunately I am not a mechanic and can offer little advice on that one, but yes that sounds a bit high. That is one reason I did not go with the SVHO.... and stayed with the HO. You will burn gas faster with a super charged machine. I usually get 6.0 MPG with my 20 HO. For my style of riding distance on a tank of gas is more important to me then a top speed of 75.
Are the mirrors adjustable on the VX?
No they are not.

How is Walt liking this machine?
He likes it a lot and has ridden it in many different conditions you can see in videos after this one. He thinks it was an excellent buy. His VX is definitely faster than my FX. Bob

@@BobBroeking yeah I have been watching the other videos a little bit to get a look at the VX. I'm jealous of the vast amount of water you guys have in FL. Maybe I'm wrong but it never looks like Walt puts the hammer down on that ski. I do know its a cruiser tho.

It is somewhere around there; we have seen 67 MPH indicated on Walt's VX...never had a GPS on it.
