Στο νέο αυτό επεισόδιο της σειράς CLOSE UPS, η Υπεύθυνη του Μουσείου Μπενάκη Παιχνιδιών Μαίρη Βέργου παρουσιάζει το Αυτόματο του Leopold Lambert «Το κοριτσάκι που κλαίει / Petite fille au polichinelle cassé» και μας μιλά για τα Αυτόματα, παιχνίδια που ξεκίνησαν να κατασκευάζουν μηχανικοί και ωρολογοποιοί από τον 16ο αιώνα. Η σειρά CLOSE UPS ρίχνει φως σε αντικείμενα του Μουσείου Μπενάκη τόσο μέσα από τις ιστορίες που τα ίδια αφηγούνται όσο και μέσα από τις ιστορίες ανθρώπων που συνδέονται με αυτά. Οι δύο πρώτοι κύκλοι (Season #1 και Season #2) ξεκίνησαν από την επιθυμία όλων μας στο Μουσείο Μπενάκη να βρεθούμε ξανά κοντά στο κοινό κατά την προσωρινή αναστολή της λειτουργίας του ιδρύματος λόγω της πανδημίας.
Στα επεισόδια του νέου κύκλου της σειράς CLOSE UPS (Season #3), τα αντικείμενα που πρωταγωνιστούν γίνονται αφορμή για να γνωρίσουμε αθέατα τμήματα του Μουσείου, όπως τα εργαστήρια Συντήρησης, άλλες συλλογές, όπως τη συλλογή Παιχνιδιών, αλλά και σημαντικούς δημιουργούς των οποίων το έργο ερευνάται στα Φωτογραφικά Αρχεία και τα Αρχεία Νεοελληνικής Αρχιτεκτονικής. Τέσσερα από τα επεισόδια του κύκλου αυτού συνδέονται άμεσα με την επανέκθεση της μόνιμης συλλογής στον τρίτο όροφο του Μουσείου Ελληνικού Πολιτισμού, η οποία ανοίγει στο κοινό τον Μάρτιο του 2024.

In this new episode of the CLOSE UPS series, Mary Vergos, Head of the Benaki Toy Museum, presents Leopold Lambert’s Automaton ‘Little Girl with Broken Doll / Petite fille au polichinelle cassé’ and makes reference to the Automata that were first made by engineers and watchmakers in the 16th century. The CLOSE UPS short video series highlights fascinating stories behind objects at the Benaki Museum, as well as the people associated with them. The initiative for the first two series (Season #1 and Season #2) derived from our strong wish to remain close to the Benaki Museum audience during the pandemic lockdown.
The objects that come centre-stage in Season #3 episodes introduce us to behind-the-scenes parts of the Museum, such as the Conservation Workshops, to collections never before examined, for example the Toy Collection, and to important artists whose oeuvre is researched at the Benaki Photographic and Modern Greek Architecture Archives. Four of Season #3’s videos are associated with the reinstallation of the Museum of Modern Greek Culture, which is launched in March 2024.
