  • Today, we tackle retrofitting the iDrive from my 2008 335i into my 2006 E91 wagon! This means installing a new dashboard, wiring in the display, radio, and iDrive controller knob, and then coding the vehicle, all of which I show you how I did in this video! I hope this helps you retrofit your E90 or E92 at home, and if you need more info, I'll put a link to a forum post below that really helped me out as well:

    Some intense interior guts in this video! Great job Chris, really impressive how much knowledge and skill you have. It really comes across in your videos. I’m curious if you have any rattles or new rattles after all the disassembling and reassembling.

    Really nice job and detailed tutorial. I’ve just learned not to take this task in as I’m not really confident with electrical work lol. I do have a donor car but don’t really want to do this job 😂😂😂. Thanks for saving me countless hours!

    Very nice job Chris. A lot of work but 100% worth it. And for me, a very interesting dash take apart! That's because I was an e36 guy for many years. Thanks for sharing and have a great day. Dutch regards, Nico.

    My only comment would be don’t use those taps. Do a thru wire splice and solder and tape. You can also get fabric tap for wrapping at Walmart or autozone.

    Can it really be this "simple?" Lol I have a 2016 f48 and want to upgrade it to the connected drive services since 3g was discontinued but wondering if it really is just a change of the com box or what, as there is a 2019 at the junk yard that still has the parts and I'm wanting to go grab the parts
    And love the license plate! Can only guess

    This looks like a ton of work how long did it take?

    • @TheBimmerBarn
      @TheBimmerBarn  Před 2 lety

      8-10 hours for this install, as you see I was able to cheat a little since both cars were already torn apart.

  • @mini_mellow_cooper8212

    What system did you use to programm the radio and such for the car...? Im about to be doing this to a 2008 e92 using my car as a donor and wanna know how to do the cod8ng myself

    • @TheBimmerBarn

      I have a video on coding my E90 and E92 cars, you download the tools from a website called Bimmergeeks and make the changes yourself! Takes a bit of reading and learning, but you can also just contact someone who does remote BMW coding and they'll do it for you. Hope that helps!

    Too much effort and you end up with useless outdated CCC, which probably fail soon. For non-idrive cars is better to fit an Android headunit with all modern features (carplay/android auto).
