Same here man, Air Combat on PS1 was one of the first video games I played as a squirt.
I wasn't expecting much from this DLC
But the DARKSTAR-
It's cracked, so much fun
The F-14A Top Gun version has higher stats than F-14A and D versions
And it can also hit the brakes
Like no frickin wayyyyy
And the F/A-18E Top Gun can drop the Top Gun fuel tank by holding the switch weapon button

The moment I saw the DarkStar, it instantly reminded me of the UI-4054 Aurora from Electrosphere! Probably the closest we'll get to having AC3 aircraft in Skies Unknown, but I'm not complaining. Looks so freaking awesome!
The DarkStar takes inspiration from the Aurora that was rumored to exist back then. The guys who designed the plane for the movie confirmed that.

Highway to the Danger Zone!
Ace Combat getting the Top Gun license feels like its come full circle. After all, the whole series started as a Japanese love letter to the iconic film that started a whole new genre for aviation in pop culture.
If I understood correctly, I think Ace Combat was also heavily inspired by Area 88 Manga/OVA series, which came out a lot earlier than Top Gun, but I get what you said.
AC was heavily influenced by Top Gun, mecha/aircraft animes like Macross and Area 88 and Metal Gear (probably?) being the main inspiration for the narrative driven AC5 and ACZ, the latter filled with a bunch of anime tropes indiscriminately. It would make sense to me at least, to label AC as MGS with planes but without any of the Kojima's insane commentaries on memes and politics.

I never thought I would see ace combat return the way it has. Warms the cockles of my heart it does
I LOVE this new set. Its a blast to use and offers a bit more diversity to the already MASSIVE selection of aircraft. My one wish though was to see the F-117A as a playable jet, but hey.. I guess there will always be next time. Right? I know most of the fanbase would agree. Thank you Project Aces. You did an amazing job regardless.
I'm actually surprised that didn't come back, the F5, F20 and the A4. I'm probably forgetting some to. When the F4 made I thought all of the past aircraft was gonna make it to AC7. Got my hopes up.

My friend went to the early showing of the movie in England. He said it's well worth the watch guys. I'm going to see it in IMAX this Sunday

In campaign yes, in multiplayer, not so much. All that speed but it can't run away from a QAAM. The real dark horse is the F-14A Maverick, that thing's hilarious. The F/A-18 Maverick's pretty dope too, you can punch the drop tank off it for 50 cool points.

For the record, you’re getting 6 planes from this DLC.
You get the normal F14A and F/A-18E AS WELL as the maverick versions with different stats and special weapons.
So it's only 3, pretty much. Got it

The MKI is the Indian version of the Russian SM or in strange real the derivative of Yuktobania's SM
@@razorback139 it would be very cool to see the MKI added to the game with appropriate IAF skins if possible, but it should be a part of a large already-existing-plane addition. Like this hypothetical pack better come with some other novel types like Aermacchi MB339 or something. Not 3 more Su30 variants

I knew it, as soon i saw DarkStar i thought, this will be a DLC aircraft for Ace Combat 7 and here we are now.

Are they changing it or are they adding a new fighter with more options? I really hope it's the latter... I'm worried this is a late game balancing. Removing PLSL from Su-57 is actually a massive nerf lmao. HCAA definitely more effective than 4AAM at medium to close dogfight engagements though. Actually since this is "DLC" it would more than likely just be a new aircraft entirely. I need to see a model comparison. If "5th Gen Fighter" is the exact same model as the existing Su-57 in game, LMAO!!!
@@grah55 i hope they add a new jet, so the PLSL in late Su-57 didn't get removed
I always felt like the cruise missile was appropriate for the 57. Though, I think they should have dropped the 4AAM just to diversity the Su57 variation. But I guess they wanted to give it a "normal" weapon, as the 4AAM is like the M4A1 of missiles.

I’m not sure if you’re aware but the darkstar is really overpowered in multiplayer. It’s difficult if not nearly impossible to shoot down.
Not even Railgun or PLSL can take it out?

They both can in theory, however good luck shooting down an aircraft turning hard going mach 6 with anything but LAAM or HVAA
That's the point though. Just play in lobbies where people don't go for the Falken/F22/etc if you can manage it.
I'd bet the overusage of darkstar will die down a bit once the novelty wears off.
Honestly didn't know people still played the multiplayer. I just wish they added co-op missions and such back from AC Infinity.
Ace Combat has come a long way from that scrappy little game on the PS1.
