    Love the white tips on her paws, and especially on the tip of her tail. SO CUTE. I had a greyhound and my yard was similar in size. Hated to Sugar basically just run in circles and tight figure-8's. Had to take her out to this one park that had a fenced soccer field, I'd turn her loose to run long.

    Thankyou so much for posting this! My girl was adopted this week. Some disgusting human dumped her like trash in bushland. She was so shy, reserved but allowed us to touch her at the RSPCA. After visiting her we decided to adopt her. She waited at the gate non stop until we took her home. She was mildly sedated due to the trauma & kennel only life but in less than 48hrs at our home she has just blossomed. Zoomies just started so I think we're doing the right things to help her recover and it brings a tear to my eyes seeing the transformation. Any tips are welcome. She now knows we are her forever family and started teeth chsttering today with lots of tail wagging! I hope she will look like your grey soon!!

    A few states in the USA still allow Greyhound racing. My family and I have adopted 4 from the racing track. They're the best pets anyone could ask for (smart little buggers to). Racing is OK as long as the proper regulations and oversight are enforced. The closing of tracks actually means that breeding will be unregulated and our beloved Greyhounds will end up, after a few generations, looking like...well, inbred monsters to fit the aesthetic of the buyers. They are a breed from ancient Egypt, bred to chase down and dig out desert varmint. Racing actually helps these beauties do what they were bred to do thousands of years ago. However when it's time for them to take it easy, that is when we come in, give them homes and love and a lot of food! Spoil them rotten!

    She's as cute as a button and such fun! That first image of her could have been a picture of our latest boy. He's also a brownish-blue with floppy ears. And he's the only hound out of the numerous ones we've had who actively plays with toys like that. Grey-blues have one ambition in retirement - how to eat and sleep at the same time!
    We have the same off-the-lead rule about being muzzled as you have. But the majority of trainers here haven't live-trained for years. They usually use a neon-coloured toy because that's what they chase at the track (also coursing has been banned as long as fox hunting, so it's only the poachers and their ilk who continue to do it, and stopping them isn't easy, though efforts are made). It used to happen when we first started rescuing - so did cutting off a retired hound's ears so they couldn't be traced.
    Thanks to whoever invented microchipping because each pup has both forms of ID now. It's a *lot* better in the UK than it used to be. Still a way to go to make it perfect (I have no problems with them racing, they love it. And I could tell you stories about hounds who raced and decided to retire themselves lol. You can't force them to go shooting out of the traps. Besides, running is what they love!) but there was a *massive* effort at the end of the 20th century to improve matters here and things did improve hugely. Just goes to show that changes can be made. If things haven't yet changed in your country, good luck!

      Greyhounds usually look at you as if they're saying: why did you throw it if you wanted it in the first place? Idiot!
      As I said in my own comment, our latest is the only one who's ever played like that. He's accumulated more toys in the 14 months we've had him than all the others did in thirty years! They were not interested. A teddy to cuddle, maybe, but that's it. Mind, our latest also has a thing for nicking my socks. Doesn't do anything, just takes them to his bed. He's not alone, I'm basically housebound. He's been left once for about 2 hours since we got him and that was just over a month ago. He's just weird. And wonderful!

Now, the adoption groups will be STRUGGLING to take in the EXTRA 8,000 - 10,000 dogs on top of the normal stream of dogs that retire each year. The ability to take in RRs is the # of foster homes available. My group takes 6-8 at a time. They were just asked by a reputable owner to take all of his FIFTY dogs! They simply can't. Ask yourself, how many dogs will be put down BECAUSE of this ban? If you think this ban is a good thing, you were lied to, and like a idiot you swallowed the lie. we have three from GRNSW, 2 pups and an adult with flat feet. The end of greyhound racing in NSW will mean the end of the healthiest breed of dog. Indiscriminate breeding for the domestic market will destroy the breed. It's not cruel to race a greyhound, as you can see, they love to run and they love to have a purpose in live as humans do. In the same way a kelpie loves to work for it's owner, a well treated greyhound will love to race. don't ban the industry, track down the cheats and prosecute them.

    • @theGreyhoundKeeper
      @theGreyhoundKeeper Před 7 lety +7

      Emily Bridges who's to say they don't consider racing fun. They naturally with one another, even ones that have never seen a track or been trained to run. Should have seen the ten of them tear arseing around the yard at the gap chrismas party. most of then had never met each other, but all they wanted to do was race against each other. Only a few of them had ever run in a race. Ours certainly haven't, we got them both as pups. The fact is that there a few bad eggs in the industry doesn't mean they are all dodgy. Most of them care about their dogs and treat them really well and treat them like a member of the family. Accidents happen on the track, they happen at the park, they happen in the backyard. We almost had a head on at full tilt in the park the other day, it could have potentially ended in a major operation or even euthanasia. no one made them run, they just run in random directions, sometimes the race ezch other, sometimes they chase each other, sometimes they chase a ball. The way you use the word "Bogan " as a derogatory term shows your ignorance. These "Bogans" you speak of include Judges, police, media personalities, politicians, doctors, lawyers, tradespeople, real estate agents, gays, straight, generations of families, the old and the young

    I've been racing greyhounds for over forty years never had a bad injury on the race track when the they are pups they are learned how to chase a lure two or three at a time same when they go to schooling track never gave live bait just good food a vitamin e tablet my dogs big paddocks free to go out when ever they like there no profit in greyhounds 95 percent are in it for the love of greyhounds are never happier when they are chasing that lure

      Nicholas Doran 40 years never an injury? 40% pups culled (killed) because they dont chase. Another 40% put down during or after racing. At best racing industry OWN statistics in Australia demonstrate 80% are dead by 3-3.5 years old. So i might believe your story about your few greys or the industry own statistics about the 20,000 born every year in Australia and 80-90% DEAD by 3-3.5. I think i‘ll stay with the stats on the 20,000 and leave your anecdotes to your grandchildren.

      no way all greyhounds are micrchipped you cannot put a greyhound to sleep unless he has areal bad injury if your greyhound leaves your kennel have to show paperwork and vets cert to the greyhound board will not be allowed to keep greyhounds ever again who ever gave you that information them to stop using what ever they are on

      Nicholas Doran you should read your -own- industry’s statistics. What do you think happens to the dogs on lots in rural Australia with 1,000 dogs? Five of them will be really fast and the rest are cannon fodder. All the “amateur” racers with 10 or fewer dogs are being played, and never have a chance to win big. This is just simple fact in Australia. Live baited and doped. If you are not doing this then you are not competitive. Time to open your eyes mate.

      40 years racing greyhounds bred about 10 litters all of them chased the lure I think you no nothing about greyhound racing every dog is graded we have 10 graded races to suit slow to very fast dogs regards doping every dog is tested never used live bait just good food and.a daily rutine to keep them fit your lovely greyhound has more of chance of getting hurt with your garden furniture as a dog racing I live in Ireland know your stats don't add up

    Greyhounds are sweet, affectionate, and gentle creatures. They deserve a spoiled life as beloved pets, not as machines on the racing track. Good luck on banning hound racing in Australia, we've had some successes in several American cities & states banning this barbaric practice.
