To those of you who read the description: You are an excellent subscriber! :)
New York 1918 was originally planned as an 8-player double round robin tournament. Norman Tweed Whitaker began a game a day before Round 1, became ill and withdrew from the event, leaving it as a 7-player field.
ROUND 1 saw the most famous game of the tournament. Marshall sprung his prepared variation of what has come to be known as the Marshall Gambit, but Capablanca wove his way through the complications at the board to win the game. Kostic drew with Chajes. In ROUND 2, Marshall lost to Chajes, and Marshall was never able to overcome the bad 0-2 start and catch Capablanca and Kostic. Janowski lost to the eventual tail-ender, Morrison, and this was the beginning of a lackluster result for him. In ROUND 4, Marshall beat Janowski, but this was a bit too late to reverse his fortunes. Kostic beat Morrison, but drew five of his first six games. Despite going undefeated in the tournament, this would not be a sufficiently fast pace to catch Capablanca, who would score a blistering 10.5/12.

Seinfeld! the soup nazi.
*It's interesting to see*
That games 100 years ago still proves useful in learning chess today
They will be untill the end of time. It's not 1300's playing,it's freaking GM's. They cannot be obsolete!
You should show us the game that won you the CM title.
Keyser Söze That’s a great idea #suggestion
Of the chess game analysis pages on CZcams I believe this one to be the best. Some go too fast through the game without giving examples of optional play. Others are frankly boring. Here I learn from each video. Thanks, Agadmator.
3am in Canada but here I am following an immediate upload from agadmator I proclaim myself an excellent subscriber
I just bought a bottle of rakia - Maraska Slilivovica, made in Coatia - because that's what Antonio says he drinks. It took me three liquor stores to find it.
@@jx14aby Congratulations, you are an excellent finder of liquor. For those of you who just want to enjoy the show, jx14aby is on the floor now
I was about to sleep when I noticed this on my feed. Instant click. Agad, you da man.
This game really make a casual players understand the importance of position and squares
Oh yes definitely
yes, without squares there would be no chess
Of course every comment will be about Capa but man Oscar Chajes was so good.
Chajes really was good. This game that Casablanca won was a great game from both sides, Chajes fought brilliantly, and Chajes victory shown previously was a great game also.
Agreed.
@@Chesscat2022capablanca -.- casa means house , capa means cape
I got a tournament tomorrow wish me luck chess community!
*BryanKent,* good luck :)

There's something amusing about wishing for luck in chess lol
You all have to address him as CM Agadmator from now on ;) lol
he won something?

Candidate Master.
That's right
You could've explained why at 8:40 you cannot capture the pawn.
The point is that if you do play 1.Nxd4 then 1...Re1 gives white a lot of activity and also regains the pawn with this line:
1
...Nxd4 2. Re8+ Ka7 3. Re7 Ka6 4. Rbxb7 Rd8
With correct play this should probably end in a draw but it's perhaps easier to play with white because of the active rooks, and having a bishop vs knight is also favorable in a game played on both sides of the board.
Random fact: Recently on antiques roadshow, a person had a chess board from this era but it had been damaged in hurricane katrina. On the board is a golden plack with names of chess masters who played on it. Capablanca is one, Lasker is another and many more. Thought you'd people might be interested in that stuff.
What a great attacking game. Love it when neither player is interested in a draw.
3:16 * White's dark bishop. I just want to start my journey as an excellent subscriber by carefully listening to each and every word that agadmator is saying.
Ruthless, imaginative guy against an old-school defense... one can't even imagine such an extraordinary rook moves around nowadays... Thanks for the great upload !
Excellent positional play as you’d expect from Capa, beautiful mate to finish.
All the way from Nigeria, what a great way to start my day!
every other game is a type of chess .. and those played by that brilliant capablanca are another type .. i can never get bored of him ♥
The goat: capablanca😎
Thanks for your upload Agad! This is very informative for those who want to learn the chess basics. More Power!
Capablanca's positional judgement and endgame technique won again. He also had an extremely low blunder rate as shown by computers.
This is up there with the best endgames I've seen.
Brilliant game. Did not at all see Capablanca's final attack the way it played out - where he went for mate instead of the coronation of his own pawn.
Fantastic game. How good tactician was Capablanca when needed. How deep his ideas were!!Many thanks
Capa is the Einstein of chess.
Brillian indeed! The clock too.
#suggestion
Any game in the tournament you got CM
Now you are a CM will you compete in the titled arena on lichess?
nice! I wasn't expecting to wake up to a new Capablanca game!
That passed pawn would have scared me to death.
Excellent analysis, CM Antonio Radic!
He is not a CM...
"Off course you won't captures and captures, This is the plan."
Of course not off course and also no s needed on either capture.
@@Baummann1 Agadmator said captures and captures
Loved that vintage photo.. Seemed straight out of library..
You know what made Bobby Fischer's saga so much more engaging? It was the actual story behind the matches. I mean, the matches are all amazing. But knowing enigmatic Fischer was at every turn of every match, the things he would say, and ESPECIALLY during the world championship match, the various problems he created... All of it just added up to a much more engaging saga. That being said, I like the capablanca saga, but it could never top Fischer. Fischer told kids they couldn't eat candy while he played chess!!!
Really enjoyed this one. The end game felt like a very strategic battle. As always, your coverage is both insightful and entertaining.
This serie is Awesome !
This channel is first class - I salute thee!
finally capa saga thanks
Interesting time for an upload, but who cares. It's a video by agad
First time I watched the whole Kasparov commercial, pretty cool
what a game!
*** If this game was played today, it would have been a draw already at around move 25. Players just don't seem to want to play out their games anymore. These old school players are still the best!!
I am happy that I appeared in the donations x) nice video as always !
Brilliant game! Thank you! Love that this opening has not been played since! That's fascinating! I think we write-off these old openings too quickly ... they would even confuse a bot.
It's fantastic as all Capablanca's pieces take part to the maneuver, expecially the King, while White King and Bishop are stuck to their position most part of the game
No way Jose.
No passed pawns for you.
I would love to see some games played between Magnus and Capa would be rly interesting how much stronger recent players are
Computer analysis of Capablanca's games showed an extremely low blunder rate similar to Carlsen.
Yay more or the ingenious Capablanca
Fantastic Analysis
welcome back to the good stuff xD
I learned a few things here,,, 😁🖒
What a great ending to a great battle ! TY !!!!
Amezing game......
Congrats to your CM title! Chapeau!
Wiiiiii thanks!!!!
Thank you for the good stuff
Wow, the end combination is a great mate in the endgame, which is rare
@7:46 It also simply unblocks and makes active the bishop, which is more significant than the square in my opinion.
To improve at chess you should study Capablanca's games!
interesting game. learn a lot. thanks GM agad
Who needs openings if you can trick the opponent with a pawn and then unleash a surprise checkmate...
On your way to 500,000 excellent subscribers!
Capablanca saga is back, yay!!!
such a good match.
8:41 I think The reason Capablanca didn't capture the pawn is may be because if Nxd4 then black can play Re8+ and now if Ka7 then Re7 and the b7 pawn is lost and if after Re8+ Kc7 Then again Re7+ and the b7 pawn is lost
you bet
So, are we going to see your latest tournament’s games?
13:45 Comment incorrect. Capa can capture the rook with Nb4, white can't get a Queen with f7. Because black will catch the pawn with Rc8. The reason white plays f6 is that any move white makes will lose for him. And the reason Capa doesn't capture the rook is that he is torturing his opponent since he doesn't resign. He is impling that his position is so much superior as he doesn't even need the opponent's rook. He already delivers checkmate in 10 moves. Unbelievable game power.
If this is good stuff, then what were the videos before :) ? Awesome vid, thanks for the great work :)
this saga is the best
If Capablanca has the opportunity to use Alpha zero to learn he will definitely become impossible. Thanks yo God he did not exist in our time.
Thank you for the video mr. Candidate Master Agadmator sir.
Capa😍😍😍
white was never in control, but the blunder toward the end def. ended it.
Now my watch begins
Great game with fire on multiple corners of the board. Could have gone many different ways... two almost past pawns in a race just stopped before the final squares 👍
this game remains me the elegant way Fisher used to mate its oponents. Light artillery and foot soldiers.
compliments of nikki rigga :p
you are an excellent youtuber and I'm an excellent subscriber..
Nice end game,,,,
In the Spirit of Micheal Tal
Well done to Haydar Kadhim for the 1 cent donation, you are an excellent supporter......
It is still deCENT though
"He is still dominating", as if He is still playing that tournament :')
The name of white if he is Spanish is Chajes, pronounced cha -jez
he wasn't
you didn't upload a video yesterday,it broke my heart
I love capas games. So here's question who will win :
Tal vs capa???
I'm a Tal fan but I'd lean towards capablanca.
capa would win against everyone
1:41 I think Agad read my comment that's why he said no tournament taking notes
Not meaning to sound too critic:
Chajes sounds like Tchahess in Spanish.
If we could, I would write it with a double h before the "hess".
J has a strong pronunciation.
Like it👍subscribed for 2 years already!
8:37 - Re1 - Why didn't Capablanca capture the pawn on d4? And why did white stop defending the pawn?
I was about to ask the same. It really is a mystery. Capturing would create a passed pawn, I can't see any drawbacks.
I was at work and started watching this in my lunch break. Didn't expect it at this time Agad. You're playing chess with your awesome subscribers aren't you ?😜
if capablanca was born in same year as magnus
i think capablanca woud eat magnus for diner
he would beat magnus, magnus would fell like he is playing against alfa zero 😂😂😂
Chess history was just waiting around for Agamator and the internet to happen.
good morning agad
“No way just go away”
~Agadmator
No way just go away 👍
Agad show us the game between the beast and Wesley so
Was that a noose above the middle board in the picture??? Guess they really played for high stakes back in those days...
That was an excellent grind, as good as Starbucks.
I still dont understand how they know the position is no longer the same after repeating moves like three or four times.
YAY! MORE CAPABLANCA FFS
Agad pls make a playlist of Mikhail tal saga
Oscar Chajes kind of looks like my dad
