- Here is a great comparison of two budget broadcast microphones under $100! The Zoom ZDM-1 and the Rode PodMic are two of the most popular amongst beginner broadcast microphones and I will run them through my tests to see which one you all like better!

I know this video is older but i think its worth noting that there is a hum with the ZDM-1 that isnt present with the podmic and thats really important to me.
Отличный обзор и сравнение, спасибо!
You’re welcome! Thanks for checking out the video!
Thank you!
You’re welcome, thanks for checking out the video!
Thanks for this! Totally in agreement-the ZDM has a fairly good *_round_* sound and I didn’t find it to be as _cable-microphonic_ as some of the other budget mics I have. I don’t have the Rode to make any comparison between the two, but I bought the ZDM because I could afford it and because the tests I performed on it were exactly (almost) what I expected. If you wandered into my little studio, you’d see mics everywhere that are in various stages of assembly-like ribbon mics ripped into to tighten/loosen ribbons and clumps of silicon glue holding various tiny alnico magnets I use for adjusting/tuning, and even bits of newspaper and cardboard invariably doing the same. I’ve found over the years that some elderly mics that are maybe beat to hell, moldy or even rusty can be cleaned up and re-tweaked with surprisingly good results. I’ve even put my tweaking talents to work on brand new/bottom-drawer el cheapos to see if I could squeeze some better performance out of them, change the pattern, etc! 😊
Thanks for checking out the video!
Dope Review, and tbh to my ears the zoom sounds richer, and not from the prescense boost but the low end sounds a lot smoother. The rode sounds good but very flat at the same time. You cant go wrong with either one though, depends on which one is better for your voice etc.
Totally with you on this. To be honest, it was a surprise to see another mic take down the Rode PodMic. In my opinion of course. It’s so nice to have great competition with this microphone market.
Thanks for watching the video! I’m glad you enjoyed it. Do you plan on getting either of these?
@@RebelTech1990 I have used RE20 and SM7b before and right now I main a rode broadcaster but I am going to pick up the zoom just to play around with it. For me, hearing the quality of the zoom. I dont think you can really justify spending more than 100$ on a mic nowadays. Unless you are a professional.
I totally get that. I recently got a Shure SM7B and I'm in love with it. It sounds amazing! Like you said, it's for professionals. I plan to use it for videos and doing studio work. Also the fact that I am a audio nerd and love cool mics.
I'm curious, what is you're opinion on the sound between the Shure SM7B and The RE20? It's a very interesting comparison.
I used your review to make a decision between the ZDM-1 & PodMic and decided on the Zoom which I think sounds better on your video, despite the build quality which I can't qualify as I haven't received my Zoom yet and don't have a PodMic. Will the end fire pod mic pop screen that you have on the PodMic work on the ZDM-1 and what brand is the pop filter?
I don’t think it will fit the ZDM-1. I’m also not a fan of it. Way too expensive and doesn’t work good enough to waste time and money on it. You’re better off getting the cheaper ones on Amazon.
Thanks for checking out the video. Let me know how you like the ZDM-1!
I received my Zoom and the quality is fantastic...just as good as my Heil PR40...actually the same size and weight to this $300 mic..they are probably made in the same Chinese factory. The Zoom sounds great through my Aphex Exciter and DBX 286 without the foam.
I've been thinking about buying the Rode for months, and ... boom: the zoom !!! Which table stand is suitable for him? thank you so much for the video! 🙏🎙️
If you’re gonna get one that can absorb some vibrations, then the Blue Compass is the best option. At least in my opinion. I’ve only used a couple of them so there could be one better. Let me know which one you get. Thanks for checking out the video!
@@RebelTech1990 Thank you!!! 🙏🎙️
Friend I would like to ask a question with rerspecto to the podmic... Does the shockmount isolate the sound of table knocks effectively?
The Podmic does better than most of the budget options out there. It still isn't perfect. The double armed yolk helps for sure so it is better than the PD-70 in that regard. I did a test with four budget mics and I think I did a tap test, you can check that out and see which one is best for you. Hope this helps. Thanks for checking out the video!
Getting the ZDM-1 for $39.99 and I'm very used to NOT TOUCHING the mic when using it. Handling noise is only a concern to me with HANDHELD mics or mics mounted on a videocam
Thank you! All this nonsense about handling on a mic that 99.9% is not being handled while in use,lol
ZDM-1, not bad, eh? I'm glad you compared to the podmic. What a good looking mic. Aaaaand, that's where my compliments end for that baby. Every time, everywhere I've heard it, I am amazed at just how thin and tinny and unpleasant that sucker sounds. Half a dozen 20-25 dollar mics sound better.
Yea I’m not sure why they tuned the PodMic, the way that they did. That being said, I’m not a big fan of the Procaster either. Of course it’s my own personal preference but I’m not too big in Rode Microphones. The NT1 is a good one but all the other ones are just ok.
@@RebelTech1990 That's funny, the NT1 is the only Rode I own and it does a fine job for raw spoken word. No experience with their other products, not motivated to get anything else of theirs.
Hello there.. can you please indicate me witch pop filter you are using in the video for the podmic at min 20:27 ? Thank you :) i dont like the sponge one for video purpose.....
It's made for the Rode PodMic and I got it from B and H. I haven't seen it on any other sites or in other stores. I am curious to see of the ones, that are made for the Electrovoice/Rode Procaster, work on the PodMic.
The zoom is so much better, i dont understand why u talk so much about the fact that it makes sounds when u touch it when we never touch the mic doing videos and podcasts hahahhaha is like giving the zoom a lower score for not delivering in a skill no one needs... The podmic sounds super dull, so thr zoom is the one on the budget.
And that’s why the Zoom wins in the end. I definitely hold build quality and in high regard, but that’s just my opinion. I feel it’s an important part of gear.
Regardless, the ZDM-1 won If you watch the outro I point out why. Sure I have my issues with it but I still chose the ZDM-1 in the comparison.
I might be late to ask a question about mics, but do you think Zoom ZDM-1 is a good microphone for recording guitar? I am a complete beginner in working with audio interface and microphones. I think about getting M Audio interface.
If you’re looking for that example, go check out the Podcastage video on the ZDM-1. He does a music portion.
I think it’s ok on acoustic. On electric it’s passable as well. Give it a listen on that video and you’ll get a good feel for what it offers.
Thanks for checking out the video
@@RebelTech1990 thanks mate✊
Do you have a version of the Shock Mount for the Zoom availible in EU?
I looked up some options on the UK amazon. There are a few but I don't know if they come with the proper thread for the ZDM-1. The one that I have isn't available on the UK amazon. It took be a while to find mine so just keep looking I'm sure there is an equivalent over there. Also check some other music/gear stores to see if they have something similar as well. Let me know how the search goes.
@@RebelTech1990 Thank you very much. I saw a few Videos of you and found them helpful and interesting. Keep it up!
Thanks bud! I appreciate the support. I have some different videos and more mic reviews coming very soon!
Очень хороший тест ! Молодец
Thanks for checking out the video!
Did you also notice background noise in Zoom?
My zoom has a buzz in it but I can’t hold that against it because it seem to be just mine.
What's that buzz on the zdm?
I mentioned that mine has a ground loop issue. Funny enough the last video I did with it, it stopped. As far as I know it’s just mine but you never know.
I just grabbed the Zoom for 49$ on Amzn no brainer at that price.
Definitely worth it at that price. It’s crazy to think it was released at $100. Now the regular price it $80 and on sale for $50 all the time. They definitely hit the right spot at that price. Thanks for checking out the video! Let me know how you like it!
Zoom👌👍From INDIA.
Thanks for checking out the video!
For some reason the ZDM sounds better to me
It's a great choice, especially for the price. I do have my fun giving it a hard time but it is a good mic. Thanks for checking out the video!
The ZDM 1 seems cheap.
Just with the build quality. It’s sad because it has a nice tone.
Thanks for checking out the video!
Why is it that because the ZDM-1 is lighter it translates to poorly built, that makes no sense......but you people are the experts, lol!
No because it feels cheap and when I took it apart they used pot metal instead of steel or aluminum. Also mine was cracked on the inside. It’s a poor design but does sound good.
